There is a place named Shark Bay (鲨鱼湾) in the western Australia. At least 28 kinds of sharks are swimming through the clear water there—the largest in the world. Especially tiger sharks are common visitors to Shark Bay. They move their 15-foot-long (4.5 meters) bodies through the seagrass, sometimes catching huge sea cows for a meal. Although tiger sharks are dangerous to them, they are important to the health of the ocean ecosystem (生态系统). In fact, they can also be our powerful friends in stopping climate change.
It all comes back to the seagrass that moves with the waves in Shark Bay. The seagrass is food for the sea cows. Each eats about 40 kilograms of seagrass a day. By controlling the sea cow populations, tiger sharks in Shark Bay help the seagrass beds grow. A good seagrass bed stores twice as much CO2 per square mile as forests do on land.
But in the world, tiger shark populations are becoming smaller, including some populations in Australia. Off Australia’s north-east coast of Queensland, it is said that tiger sharks have fallen by at least 71%, largely because of overfishing and by catch (误捕). A reduction in tiger sharks means more seagrass eaten and less carbon kept in the ocean.
In Shark Bay, the tiger sharks are able to achieve the balance by keeping sea cow populations down, and not all the bay’s seagrass is lost. But here comes the question: What if sharks disappeared from the bay The need to understand how they support their ecosystems becomes even more urgent (紧迫的).

In Chinese cities, people in yellow or blue suits riding e-bikes are easy to see. They rush between traffic from restaurants to homes and businesses. They are food deliverymen. Though they make our life more convenient, this can come at a cost for them.
“The food deliverymen are trapped in the app,” says an article in the Chinese magazine Portrait, which has caused a discussion. It points out that on food delivery service platforms Eleme and Meituan, the time limit and route (路线) for each delivery order is worked out by an algorithm (算法), which doesn’t consider real- life situations such as red lights, speed limits and waiting for the lift.
Based on the algorithm, the time limit for a delivery order within 2 kilometers is 30 minutes. Within that time, a deliveryman has to pick up the order and deliver it to the customer. Besides, the deliverymen have shorter limit time in recent years. Delay (延迟) could mean a deduction in pay so deliverymen speed up, often breaking traffic rules and putting people’s lives at risk.
Many people asked the platforms to improve the rules applied to the deliverymen. On Sept. 9, Eleme announced it would add a button to the app, which allowed customers to extend the time limit for their order, and encouraged customers to show more respect for deliverymen.
But this created more heated debates (讨论) . They felt the company was putting the responsibility (责任) on the users rather than (而不是) solving the problem themselves. Also, even with the ability to allow more time for delivery, it may not fully solve the problem. “If I give them five more minutes, they would not use it to ride slowly or obey the traffic rules. They would simply take one more order. This is not the final cure to solve the problem.”
Actually it would be better to improve the platform’s system and the delivery system. Besides, the government should prevent companies from setting short time limit for their deliverymen and keep them safe on the roads.
