When I was 12 years old, I spent most of my free time reading. But sadly, not everyone around me enjoyed reading as much as I did, and not being able to talk about my favorite hobby with my friends made my reading a lonely experience.
In my senior year of high school, I came across a channel, “Clau Reads Books” run by Claudia Ramirez Lomeli, who makes book-related content in Spanish, and was introduced to the book world of social media. I could finally hear someone else’s reaction to the stories I like. I love her videos because we prefer the same kind of books. Eventually, I followed her on another social networking site, and I learned about the community on it where users blog about their favorite books. I really wanted to be part of this space and seeing others being so interactive and supportive made it seem like an acceptable community. However, I doubted my ability to express my thoughts well because I was unfamiliar with creating content to engage other readers.
Therefore, I started reading blogs on how to start a new account for guidance and after weeks of researching, I learned about the necessary social media skills. I had to spend time designing small sets and finding natural lighting and household items for photo shoots, and learn how to write engaging reviews while using hashtags (主题标签) in posts to attract other users.
My first post was a photo of my favorite book, Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick, with my hand’s shadow cast on a page. I also took pictures of several of my favorite sentences from the book and included a few hashtags to increase interaction. Attracting people with similar interest was hard at first. But gradually, it became kid’s stuff. The community quickly became a good place for me to talk about my favorite books with people having the same interest.
4. Why did the 12-year-old author feel upset
A. She couldn’t spare time for play. B. No one around her liked reading.
C. She couldn’t share her love of reading. D. No friend was fond of her favorite book.
5. What can we learn about Claudia Ramirez Lomeli
A. She comes from Spain. B. She hosts a TV program.
C. She taught the author how to blog. D. She led the author to a new book world.
6. What is mainly talked about in paragraph 3
A. Skills of choosing suitable hashtags. B. The author’s efforts to attract viewers.
C. Guidance on registering new accounts. D. The author’s techniques for creating content.
7. What does the author think of attracting people with similar interest now
A. It is easily done. B. It faces new challenges.
C. It is mentally demanding. D. It needs topics related to kids.
C
At this time of year, thousands of British tourists are heading to the Austrian ski slopes (斜坡), attracted not just by the snow tracks (跑道) but also by the pretty villages, great food and drink, and, the Austrian lifesaver for parents, the kid-friendly hotel. Confusing, then, a recent survey by InterNations on Expat-Friendly Places has put Austria the worst country in the world (well, out of 53 countries) for “local friendliness”.
As a frequent visitor to Austria, I must admit being confused. I’ve had many experiences there, but none that I would call the least bit unfriendly. Take my most recent trip there last weekend for example. Vienna in winter is beautiful and, if you’re lucky, you may have some snow — despite which, the transport systems such as buses and subways continue to work well. Food markets here open early and I began at the most famous, the Naschmarkt, with its two main streets, one for restaurants, the other for food stalls (摊位). But instead of the expected rude traders, I was surrounded by encouraging smiles! So far, so friendly.
So, if Austrians are funny, how can they also be unfriendly This is the place, after all, where they invented a best-selling chocolate known as Mozart balls (after their most outstanding composer), ballet for horses (at Vienna’s Spanish Riding School), and the favourite night-time snack of sausages.
Did I say formal That is, perhaps, at the root of the misunderstanding. Austrians like going to balls and wearing their traditional clothes. They are super polite and helpful to lost tourists. That’s not to say you can’t anger an Austrian. For example, being late is not to be allowed.
My point is that you get the best of the two countries closest to them: Everything works (as in Germany) and they like to have fun (as in Italy). And I’m not alone in my opinion. According to the Global Liveability Index, Vienna is the best city to live in on the planet and it has worn that particular crown for the past 10 years. Perhaps, in this situation, the statistics (统计学) have rather missed the point.
8. Why are British tourists mentioned in paragraph 1
A To show they are the friendliest tourists.
B. To interest us with a confusing situation.
C. To introduce the topic of tourism.
D. To compare them with Austrians.
9. What happened to the author at the Naschmarkt
A. He came across polite traders.
B. He lost his way at the food markets.
C. He was inspired to smile even in winter.
D. He was confused by the transportation systems.
10. What do we know about Austrians
A. They are serious. B. They are unfriendly.
C. They like to be on time. D. They like formal uniforms.
11. What’s the author’s purpose in writing the passage
A. To call on Austrians to be more friendly.
B. To attract tourists to pay a visit to Austria.
C. To explain his idea of international relations.
D. To show Austria doesn’t deserve its bad name.
D
Recently, fans of self-driving cars have gotten some good news, followed by bad news. Two self-driving taxi companies got permission (许可) to run their Robotaxis in San Francisco. But a series of accidents has led to new concerns about how safe the cars actually are.
Cruise and Waymo are two companies that have been developing self-driving taxis, sometimes called “Robotaxis”. Both companies have been testing their cars in San Francisco for years. Until recently, the cars have had a human in the driver’s seat, ready to take over if there was a problem. But the newest self-driving cars don’t have anyone in the driver’s seat. They are programmed to do everything on their own, including following the rules of the road and avoiding people and other cars. Until recently, the Robotaxis could only drive in specific areas, at certain times. But in early August, Waymo and Cruise were given full permission to run their Robotaxis in San Francisco. The companies were allowed to run as many driverless cars as they wanted, 24 hours a day. And the companies weren’t required to have safety drivers in their cars.
The move was a big step for self-driving cars, and many people were excited about the change. But at the same time, there were problems. A Cruise car crashed into a fire truck, sending a person to the hospital. Later, a Cruise car stopped working in the middle of an intersection (十字路口), causing a traffic jam.
In spite of the problems, both Waymo and Cruise are planning to expand (扩展) their self-driving car service to other cities. Cruise has plans to bring their Robotaxis to at least 15 cities. Waymo says its driverless system will soon be able to work “in any city, on any kind of vehicle”.
Though the quality of self-driving cars is improving, it’s likely to be a while before most people view them as safe.
12. Which of the following is the good news for the two companies
A. They were allowed to produce as many Robotaxis as possible.
B. Their Robotaxis have passed the safety check successfully.
C. Their Robotaxis were popular with people in San Francisco.
D. They were given full permission to expand their work.
13. What do the underlined words “a big step” in paragraph 3 refer to
A. The permission to develop self-driving taxis.
B The permission to drive Robotaxis in specific areas.
C. The full permission given for Robotaxis companies.
D. The permission to drive Robotaxis at certain times.
14. What do you know about the future of Robotaxis
A. They can only be driven in big cities.
B. They are most likely to have a bright future.
C. They will be in practical use soon.
D. There will be a lot of limitations on them.
15. What can be the best title for the text
A. Robotaxis Move Forward but Face Problems
B. Robotaxis Start Operations in San Francisco
C. Robotaxis Will Completely Replace Taxis Soon
D. Robotaxis Are the Safest Vehicles in the World

Did I say formal That is perhaps, at the root of the misunderstanding.
A. To show they are the friendliest tourists.
【答案】8. B 9. A 10. C 11.

B. The permission to drive Robotaxis in specific areas.
C. The full permission given for Robotaxis companies.
D. The permission to drive Robotaxis at certain times.
14. What do you know about the future of Robotaxis
A. They can only be driven in big cities.
B. They are most likely to have a bright future.
C. They will be in practical use soon.
D. There will be a lot of limitations on them.
15. What can be the best title for the text
A. Robotaxis Move Forward but Face Problems
B. Robotaxis Start Operations in San Francisco
C. Robotaxis Will Completely Replace Taxis Soon
D. Robotaxis Are the Safest Vehicles in the World
