根据第二段“The new finding is based on a theory about insect orientation (定位). Due to their small and lightweight bodies, insects experience less air resistance, allowing them to achieve higher accelerations (加速度), which in turn makes it challenging for them to sense up and down during flight. So, they typically rely on stable light sources like the moon and stars to orient themselves at night, keeping the sky at their backs to stay upright. However, the introduction of artificial lights confuses their natural sense of direction. The insects you see circling street lights, in other words, are probably lost. 故选A项。
根据第三段“To reach these conclusions, scientists used high-resolution cameras to film insects flying around artificial lights in Costa Rica. They also attached tiny sensors to insects and filmed motion-capture videos of them in flight. In this way, researchers can slow down the insects pace and study their movements in greater detail. The videos showed insects turning their backs toward sources of artificial light—even at the price of flipping over or crashing.
根据最后一段““Insects have been flying around for 370 million years, and it’s just in the last 150 years that it’s really gone wrong for them,” says entomologist Samuel Fabian of Imperial College London. “If we don’t want to influence large amounts of insect populations, we should not have lights shining up into the sky.” (伦敦帝国理工学院的昆虫学家塞缪尔·法比安说:“昆虫已经飞行了3.7亿年,只是在过去的150年里,它们才真正出现了问题。”“如果我们不想影响大量的昆虫种群,我们就不应该让灯光照亮天空。”)”可知,此处法比安说如果我们不想影响大量的昆虫种群,我们就不应该让灯光照亮天空,所以是在呼吁人们减少光污染。故选B项。
【35题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段“Tun on a light outside at night, and it won’t be long before lots of insects start gathering around it. This behavior has led to a popular comparison for attraction, “like a moth to a flame.” However, according to a new study published in the journal Nature Communications, it turns out that insects aren’t “attracted” to artificial lights, but rather confused by it.

Fighting my unsteady vision, I pulled out my phone, only to find there was no service. That was too bad. Now I noticed I’d landed in the canyon bottom about 20 feet from the river’s edge. My bag was lying not far from me. Gathering my strength, I dragged myself to the river to clean myself and then used some tree branches to create a spot of shade, knowing the temperature would climb above 100°F later on. With my injuries, there was no way I could get myself up and out of the canyon. I could do nothing but wait.
It had been about 2 hours since my fall when I heard the sound of several people. They were hikers. They must be the owners of the car. Then I spotted a family of three picking their way down the canyon wall. “Help!” I screamed. The father rushed to my side and I told him what had happened. Shortly after his wife and daughter arrived, the man turned and ran off to call for help. I was luckily rescued and sent to hospital for treatment. The lesson I drew from this lucky survival is that you should never ever hike alone to an unfamiliar destination.

Text 1
M: Do you have any idea what’s wrong with my houseplant It gets plenty of sun and enough plant food...
W: Are you watering it too often Remember this plant comes from the desert where there’s hardly any rain.
M: Ah..Maybe that’s the problem!
Text 2
M: It seems to be human nature to pursue what we don’t have. Tall people want to be shorter, and short people want to be taller...
W: I know. For example, when I was younger, my cousin always wanted my golden hair, and I wanted dark hair like hers.
Text 3
W: Hi, are there any tickets left for tonight’s concert
M: Sorry, they’re sold out. But I can put you on the waiting list, in case there are any cancellations tonight. Would you like me to do that
W: Oh, yes, please. Let me give you my phone number.
Text 4
M: Oh, this is so annoying! We’ve been driving around for ages, and I haven’t seen a single space.
W: There’s a street party going on in town today. That’s probably why it’s busy. Let’s try the supermarket... You can park there for free as long as you buy something.
Text 5
W: So, tell me a little bit about the character you played in your new film Last Weekend.
M: Well, Jake is a sort of the ‘everyman’ character. He doesn’t have any special talents. In fact, he lives a pretty boring life, until his old friend Maggie returns to town...
Text 6
M: Can I borrow your phone for a second Mine is dead, and I can’t find my charger.
W: Sure.
M: Thanks. Hey, what’s wrong with your screen It’s all dark and the colors look strange.
W: Oh! I’ve been using an app called “Sunset” to help me sleep at night.
M: Really How
W: Well, studies show that too much blue light from screens can make sleeping difficult. So, in the evenings, the app puts a red filter (滤光器) over the screen to cancel it out.
M: Oh, interesting. Does it help
W: Yeah, I think so! I also listen to white noise, which helps me fall asleep too.
Text 7
M: Can we do something about the temperature in here I have so many emails to deal with today, but my hands are so cold that I can hardly type my report!
W: I know. I’ve been struggling too. But the heat probably won’t be turned on until the end of the month.
M: Why not
W: It’s a part of the company’s plans to save energy.
M: Well, I can understand that. But how are we supposed to work in these conditions
W: I guess we always have the choice to work from home.
M: True. But before my youngest daughter starts school, it’s just too difficult for me to do that. I wouldn’t be able to focus.
W: Then I think we should talk to the boss about what can be done, otherwise people will start getting ill.
Text 8
W: Well, here we are! I can’t wait to get inside and see what’s on offer!
M: I heard this year’s Mini Fair is going to be even bigger and better than last year’s. It won’t disappoint us.
W: Oh really I had to go to a boring work event at that time, so I couldn’t come last year.
M: Yes! I got so many things for my model train set.
W: Like what
M: Well, the coolest things I got were some tiny little trees. They looked so real.
W: Wow!
M: I’m hoping the guy who sells them is here again this year.
W: I hope so! Now that I’m satisfied with the inside part of my dolls’ house, I want to focus on creating the garden. So, it would be great to get some little plants and trees. What about you
M: I want some little model cars and people to add to my train station scene. But I need to find a toilet first.
W: Over there, by the restaurant hall.
M: Great. Meet you in five minutes, by the ticket desk.
Text 9
W: Hi, are you here for the tour
M: Yes, I’m Michael Green. Are you the head girl
W: That’s right. I’m Jayne Palmer. You look a bit older than the kids I usually show around the school!
M: Ha-ha! Yeah, I’ll be sixteen next month.
W: My birthday is in October, too!
M: Really
W: Yeah! So, why are you changing schools
M: Well, my mom got a new job in this area, so we’re moving here. I’ve heard good things about this place.
W: Well, as you can see, we have some great facilities... Here are the basketball courts. Then just behind them, you’ll see the football field and the running track. And that building over there is our swimming pool.
M: Wow! There wasn’t room for anything like this at my previous school. I was on the swimming team, but we had to travel to use the city pool for our practices.
W: Well, we’ve certainly got plenty of space. The arts teaching here is also excellent. We have a music studio and our own theater.
M: Amazing!
W: So, where would you like to go first
M: Well, I’m quite interested to see the science facilities. I’m hoping for a career in medicine.
W: Okay, great! Well, the laboratories have all been updated recently, so we’ve got some really good equipment. Follow me.
Text 10
On my recent business trip to Shanghai, I met up with a local friend who took me out for a very interesting evening meal. At the Community AI Canteen, everything is done by robots. When you walk in there, you place your order on a screen. Using robotic arms, the intelligent cooking system then cooks your food before packing it up... It even adjusts the temperature, depending on whether you want to eat it straight away or take it home with you! To pay, you place your food on a smart cash desk, which immediately calculates (计算) the cost. There’s even a 24-hour noodle machine just outside, which offers hot and fresh food around the clock. The canteen offers a huge amount of choices and the dishes taste great. It is really fun to get “a taste of the future”. However, I’m not sure I would like all restaurants to be run by robots. I can see the benefits for busy families or office workers needing a quick lunch, but what about lonely older people who would miss the human touch I do think we will see more places like this in the future, though. At best, a human waiter can serve around 100 people in a day. The AI system can serve double that figure, making it good for business.

Raised in a fatherless home, my father was extremely tightfisted towards us children. His attitude didn’t soften as I grew into adulthood and drifted away to college. I had to ride the bus whenever I came home. Though the bus stopped about two miles from home, Dad never met me, even in cold weather. If I grumbled (嘟囔), he’d say in his loudest father voice, “That’s what your legs are for!”
The walk didn’t bother me as much as the fear of walking alone along the highway and country roads. I also felt less than valued that my father didn’t seem concerned about my safety. That feeling was canceled one spring evening.
It had been a particularly difficult week at college after long hours in labs. I longed for home. When the bus reached a stop, I stepped off and dragged my suitcase to begin the long journey home.
A row of hedge (篱笆) edged the driveway that climbed the hill to our house. Once I had turned off the highway to start the last lap of my journey, I was always relieved to see the hedge because it meant that I was almost home. On that particular evening, the hedge had just come into view when I saw something gray moving along the top of the hedge, moving toward the house. Upon closer observation, I realized it was the top of my father’s head. Then I knew, each time I’d come home, he had stood behind the hedge, watching, until he knew I had arrived safely. I swallowed hard against the threatening tears. He did care, after all.
On later visits, that spot of gray became my watchtower. I could hardly wait until I was close enough to watch for its secret movement above the greenery. Upon reaching home, I would find my father sitting innocently in his chair. “So! My son, it’s you!” he’d say, his face lengthening into pretended surprise.
I replied, “Yes, Dad, it’s me. I’m home.”

Overcoming learning disabilities has long been a challenge for educators and students alike. However, recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) technology have shown promise in revolutionizing the way we approach education for students with learning disabilities.
One of the most significant ways AI can assist is through the use of adaptive learning systems. These systems use algorithms (算法) to analyze a student’s performance and adjust the learning content and pace accordingly. This personalized approach allows them to progress at their own pace, without feeling overwhelmed or left behind. Furthermore, adaptive learning systems can identify areas where a student may be struggling and provide targeted support.
Another way AI can support them is through natural language processing (NLP) technology. NLP enables computers to understand and interpret human language, allowing AI-powered tools to provide real-time feedback on a student’s written work. This can be particularly beneficial for students with dyslexia, who often struggle with spelling, grammar, and sentence structure. By providing immediate feedback, students can identify and correct their mistakes, leading to improved writing skills and increased confidence.
AI can also play a role in developing their social and emotional skills. Many students with learning disabilities experience social isolation. AI-powered social robots can recognize and respond to human emotions, allowing students to engage in interactive conversations and activities that help develop their social and emotional intelligence.
While the potential benefits of AI in education are clear, it is essential to recognize AI isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. Educators must carefully consider the moral implications of using AI in the classroom and ensure these tools are used responsibly and with the best interests of the students in mind. Moreover, it is crucial to remember AI shouldn’t replace human educators but rather serve as a tool to enhance and support their efforts. Teachers play a vital role by providing empathy, understanding, and guidance that cannot be reproduced by a machine. By combining the power of AI with the skills and compassion of human educators, we can create a more inclusive and effective educational environment for all students.
28. How can adaptive systems help students with learning disabilities
A. By adjusting their learning methods. B. By analyzing their learning abilities.
C. By satisfying their curiosity in learning. D. By offering personalized learning assistance.
29. What does the underlined word “dyslexia” in paragraph 3 refer to
A. A mental illness affecting human intelligence.
B. A brain disease leading to lack of confidence in study.
C. A language-related skill applied in the learning process.
D. A learning disorder involving difficulty in reading and writing.
30. What is the value of AI-powered social robots
A. Engaging students in learning activities. B. Narrowing the social distance between people.
C. Assisting learners to overcome social isolation. D. Helping learners adopt effective reading strategies.
31 What does the author say about AI in the last paragraph
A. It can’t provide understanding like human educators.
B. It can’t create an inclusive learning environment.
C. It can meet a wide range of learning needs. D. It can guarantee learners’ data security.
D
Turn on a light outside at night, and it won’t be long before lots of insects start gathering around it. This behavior has led to a popular comparison for attraction, “like a moth to a flame.” However, according to a new study published in the journal Nature Communications, it turns out that insects aren’t “attracted” to artificial lights, but rather confused by it.
The new finding is based on a theory about insect orientation (定位).
To reach these conclusions, scientists used high-resolution cameras to film insects flying around artificial lights in Costa Rica. They also attached tiny sensors to insects and filmed motion-capture videos of them in flight. In this way, researchers can slow down the insects pace and study their movements in greater detail. The videos showed insects turning their backs toward sources of artificial light — even at the price of flipping over or crashing.
This can be dangerous for insects, as circling around artificial lights can put them at risk from enemies, exhaustion, and starvation, causing many to die before morning. Night artificial light is a major cause of insect population loss, which could severely impact crop pollination and food supplies for larger animals, including humans. “Insects have been flying around for 370 million years, and it’s just in the last 150 years that it’s really gone wrong for them,” says entomologist Samuel Fabian of Imperial College London. “If we don’t want to influence large amounts of insect populations, we should not have lights shining up into the sky.”
32. What have scientists found out about insects
A. Artificial lights can disturb their sense of direction. B. Their populations are in decline.
C. They often fly quickly during the night. D. Their eyesight is well adapted to light changes.
33. How did the scientists conduct the experiment
A. By detecting the living environment of insects.
B. By monitoring the insects’ brain activity during flight.
C. By making videos to study insects’ movements.
D. By building models to analyze insects’ motion patterns.
34. Why does the author mention Fabian’s words in the last paragraph
A. To stress the importance of insects to food supplies.
B. To appeal to people to reduce light pollution.
C. To show the reasons for insects flying around lights.
D. To explain the effects of insects’ death on human life.
35. Which is the most suitable title for the text

My brother and I set off shortly after sunrise. The air was cool, but I knew that wouldn’t last long. I’d chosen this hike for a hot day like today so that we’d climb down into a redrock canyon (峡谷) , where we would swim in a pool and camp by a picturesque waterfall. I knew it wouldn’t be an easy hike, though. I’d researched and planned for weeks, knowing climbing down into the canyon is challenging.
About a mile in, the trail started to dip down to the river and the footing became steep (陡峭的) . After repeated slips on the loose ground, my brother decided to turn back to the car. Unwilling to give up on my plan so soon and remembering there was another car where we parked, I believed there was someone else going to the canyon. So I chose to continue alone. He gave me the bag which contained food and water. Then we decided to meet up at the car the next day.
After another mile or so, the river came into view below me, but the trail became less obvious. I chose to go down along a bush-covered slope (斜坡) . As soon as I began hiking down, though, I realized the ground was much looser than I’d thought. I decided to climb back up and find another way.
I tried to pull myself up, but, unfortunately, the rock I was standing on broke beneath me. My face struck earth first. I was rolling with my bag, dirt and red sandstone flying beneath me as I picked up speed. I was going to die, I thought.
Then I fell flat on my back, my head hitting on a baseball-size stone. To my surprise, I was alive, but everything hurt. After lying in confusion for a few moments, I tried to look around. One of my eyes was already swollen shut, and through the other, the world spun around me. I could hardly move my left hand, and my right ankle hurt terribly.
