Yellowstone National Park is one of the wildest places in the United States. But a few years ago, something very important was missing: wolves! To make things right, the US government(政府)decided to bring wolves back to Yellowstone, and they hope that the coming of wolves would help to stop the number of some animals from growing.
The plan started in 1995, when scientists caught 14 wolves in Canada. Then they took the wolves to Yellowstone and put them into big outdoor cages(笼子). As soon as the wolves got used to(习惯)their environment, the scientists let them walk freely in the wild.
It seemed that the wolves were quickly making themselves right at home. In a few hours of leaving their cages, the wolves made their first kill. It was an elk—a kind of huge deer and their favorite prey in Canada. Elk lived in Yellowstone for many years without wolves, so their groups become bigger and stronger. But from the time the wolves were free, the wolves would help to stop the number of elk under control.
Life was good for the wolves. Plenty of food meant they could have more babies. During the first year, there were 9 little baby wolves. At the same time, scientists caught 17 more big wolves in Canada and put them into the park again. In the spring of 1997, nine different kinds of wolf groups had 67 babies.
Scientists thought they had to catch and bring more wolves to the park. However, with the wolf number growing so quickly, they decide that this is no more necessary.

It is the smallest known adult animal among the world’s over 11,000 reptile species(爬行动物). The rainforest in Madagascar are home to many animals. Before B.nana, the world’s smallest known reptile was another chameleon called Brookesia micra. It grows to be about 2.9 cm long. The female B.nana was about the same size. The male B.nana, however, was much smaller. It is 2.2 cm from head to tail. This is unusual for chameleons, because usually the males are larger than the females. Is the whale the world’s largest fish No. It looks like a fish, but it is really a mammal(哺乳动物). Then what’s the world’s largest fish It’s the whale shark(鲸鲨).
Although the whale shark is our biggest fish and lives in the ocean(海洋) around the world, few people have ever heard of it. Scientists have not been studying whale sharks for very long. Much more needs to be learned about them.A whale shark is sometimes called a “ gentle giant(温柔的巨人)”. It likes to be alone and doesn’t care a bit about divers or humans. The biggest whale shark weighs 24, 250 pounds and is nearly 40 feet long. This makes it heavier and longer than a school bus.
Inside its huge mouth are great numbers of very small teeth. To count all of them, you’ll need to do some math. The whale shark’s teeth are arranged in rows. There are between eleven and thirteen rows on each jaw(颌) and around three hundred teeth in each row.
However, the whale shark rarely uses its teeth. It does not chew or bite its food. Large amounts of water are pulled into its mouth and then pushed out through its gills(腮).
For a few months every year, a group of whale sharks comes to the Ningaloo Reef, off Western Australia. This gives scientists a wonderful chance to study the large fish.
Whale sharks do live in the ocean around the world, but no one knows their population. It is possible that our biggest fish may need protecting. It is one of the reasons why scientist continue to learn about these gentle giants.

Layi Aga, 76. broke into a smile when she thought of her first trip by train.
The year was 1970, Layi, from Mianshan Township in Liangshan, Sichuan, walked more than 7 kilometers along mountain roads with her family, hoping to see a train pull into the railway station. At that time, the Chengdu-Kunming Railway just started running and it was the main railway connecting Sichuan and Yunnan. Rope climbing It first appeared as an Olympic sport in 1896. The climber who spends the shortest time reaching the top is the winner. The rope used to be 15 meters long. Years later, it was shortened to 8 meters, for some reason. After 1932, there was no rope climbing at the Olympics.
Race walking In race walking, walkers have to win the race by walking. To make sure that they don’t run, race walkers must have one foot on the ground at all times. Race walking has been an Olympic sport since 1904. Men enter 20-kilometer and 50-kilometer races; women only race 20 kilometers.

Soap operas from South Korea have been popular in China for more than twenty years now. So it is not the first time for the soap operas made in China to feel less popular. But this time, they are facing more difficulties, for The Heirs (《继承者们》) and My Love from the Star really made a full success, which even attracted some top officials.
A senior official said he sometimes watched soap operas from South Korea, as well as House of Cards, an American opera about politics. These operas made both in South Korea and in America have a lot of lovers in China.
Many people agree that China’s soap operas can’t be much loved by most Chinese, because they are not as interesting and exciting as those operas from South Korea and America, such as My Love from the Star, a Korean love story between a time traveling professor and a famous movie star.
However, Korean shows not only provide soap operas but also some programmings (综艺节目). Dad, Where Are We Going is not an original Chinese show. We learned it from South Korea although not many in China are aware (意识到) of that fact.
Actually, China has a closer culture with South Korea. Shows from this neighbor seem to do better with their exciting stories on the Cinderella theme (灰姑娘主题). Many people began riding bikes during the pandemic. The number of riders on Beijing's bike-only lane(车道) from Huilongguan to Shangdi has gone up by 17.6 percent.
In other cities around the world, biking is also becoming popular. London has closed large parts of the city to cars so that people can ride safely(安全地). New York, Berlin and Montreal have built new and wider bike lanes. These cities believe that if there are safer and more comfortable places for riding, more people will ride bikes in the future instead of driving.
