Carrots are very easy to grow from seeds in your garden, a planter box, or even in a large pot. Here are some tips for planting carrots.
Before planting
Step 1: Learn some knowledge about how to plant carrots. As a general rule, carrots are planted in early spring as soon as the soil is workable or 3-5 weeks before the last frost date. Carrots will do well in a spot that’s sunny six to eight hours a day. The average days to harvest are about 55 to 65 days from seeds.
During the process of planting seeds
Step 2: Loosen the soil at least one foot deep to make sure it is light and loose and can make the water go well.
Step 3: Create shallow furrows in the soil 1/4 inch deep and one foot apart if you are planting more than one row of carrots.
Step 4: Put the tiny carrot seeds two to three inches apart, 1/4 inch deep, and cover lightly with soil.
Step 5: Press down lightly on the soil to ensure good contact between seeds and the soil.
After planting
Step 6: Give them one inch of water per week.
Step 7: Thin the carrots. When the tops of the carrots reach two inches high, thin the carrots to one inch apart by pulling the small carrot plants out of the ground.
Step 8: Harvest your carrots. The bigger and longer they grow, the sweeter and juicier they become. However, you can harvest them as soon as they grow big enough to eat.
24. From Step 1, what can we know about carrots
A. They grow well in hot weather.

"The winter has come again," thought Buck, a great golden-brown dog, as the first snowflake touched his nose. But the cold wasn't his biggest worry. The breath of a group of wolves was hidden in the wind blowing from the forest. "The wolves have come with winter." Buck stood silently, waiting for them.
Suddenly, a wolf appeared and jumped at Buck. In a second, Buck broke his neck, and then stood still again. The wolf was dead behind him. Three more wolves jumped at him and were also killed. Then the group attacked Buck together. Yet not one of them could bring Buck down: he was too quick, too strong, too clever for them all. After half an hour, the group stopped.
Another hour passed. ▲ . The wolf walked near slowly with his head down. They touched noses. Then another wolf came forward to do the same, and another, and another. Soon the group was all around Buck, howling(嚎叫)into the sky. The call of the wild was loud in Buck's ears. And when the wolves returned to the forest, Buck ran with them, side by side.
After a few years, the local villagers began to notice that some of the little wolves had golden brown hairs in their gray coats. They also saw a golden-brown animal that stood in front of the group of wolves. They called it the "Ghost(幽灵)Wolf".
"And I once saw dead horses and deer killed by the teeth of a terrible animal. It was the Ghost Wolf!" Shouted one villager.
"I saw it too in a valley which we dare not enter. What kind of animal would be brave enough to do so " said another.
The Ghost Wolf was Buck. Though he was still in a golden-brown coat, he became like all other wolves. He would walk around the lake where the yellow gold shone in the water and howled. And he was not always alone. In the long nights, he ran in the front of the wolf group through the moonlight, and then disappeared in the darkness.

Mid-summer is harvest (收获) time for the yellow straw (稻草) that grows in Xuhang Town. The straw, however, is not used to feed animals or to put up buildings. Instead, it is the material for a traditional craft (工艺).
Xuhang is known as the “Town of Straw Plaiting (编织) ”. The craft has survived for more than 1,000 years.
It is said that there was once a young woman named Huang. She was about to get married. However, she was poor. She didn’t even have a new pair of shoes to wear. One day, the cows at her home carried some yellow straw in their mouths and placed it in front of her. Huang made the straw into a pair of shoes. She wore the shoes and got married happily. Surprisingly, her shoes became popular. Huang taught the villagers to make the straw shoes and she became known as the “fairy of straw plaiting”.
The modern “fairy of straw plaiting” is Wang Qin. She has been practicing plaiting since childhood and becomes an inheritor of this craft. After graduating from school, Wang first worked in a tailor’s shop and then in a shoe factory. The factory closed down in 1999. While staying at home, Wang looked for something to do. Her grandfather was the leader of the local straw plaiting group. Taking his advice, the woman carefully studied the ancient craft and chose it as her career. These days, visitors to her workshop are greeted by the pleasant smell of straw. On the first floor, there is an exhibition of Wang’s best artworks. There are handbags, slippers, clocks, vases and covers for tea sets.
Every summer, people in Xuhang Town harvest 2,000 kilograms of straw. After drying the straw on the ground, craftspeople select those of the best quality of them. The craft mainly uses the “skin” of the straw. The material is then colored and plaited with the help of a mold (模具).
Wang is now in her fifties. She is now trying to make the art form popular among young people. In this way, this local tradition will be alive forever.
32. Which of the following is the right order of the straw plaiting
①Pick out the best quality straws. ②Dry the straws on the ground.

B. Finally, Linda became the__________ of the speech competition.
C. Every student should be a (n) __________ of our Chinese culture to pass it down.
D. Bell, the__________ of the telephone, made the first call.
34. What can we learn from the passage

C. The straw plaiting craft has a long history D. People do straw plaiting only in summer
35. Why is Wang Qin called the modern “fairy of straw plaiting”

⑤We can also pay attention to the details (细节). For example, people in an AI-made pictures may miss an earring or a part of their glasses. If there's text in a picture, such as a poster, the text is usually unreadable.
⑥AI is also terrible at dealing with the background. If there's a crowd in the picture, people's faces in the corner are usually not clear—or they don't have a face at all!

However, they don’t feel tired. Videos of such trips have been spreading on the social media, with many people online praising them for their vitality (生命力) , energy and high ability to complete their plans.

He said, “We are in such a hurry because we want to visit historical places and try different kinds of delicious food in a short period of time. At the same time, we want to save some money for our daily life. I only spent around 400 yuan for this trip. We feel like traveling so much, as the past three years made travel very inconvenient.”
Unlike Liu who traveled to nearby cities, Chen Yifei, a student at Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, likes to travel far to cut down the stress of schoolwork. In November, the 20-year-old took a two-day trip to Xi’an, Shanxi. During her trip, she visited all the interesting places in the city. “Such a trip can bring bright colors to my stressful life!” said Chen.

Step 3: Create shallow furrows in the soil, 1/4 inch deep and one foot apart if you are planting more than one row of carrots.

"I saw it too, in a valley which we dare not enter.
