Beautiful Guatemala is a land rich in diversity and cultural heritage. Whether you hope to summit a volcano, hike through the jungle or explore ancient ruins, Guatemala will not disappoint.
Tikal National Park
Tikal National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most famous places in Guatemala. Tikal covers an estimated 46 miles (around 74 km) and is one of the most extraordinary archaeological sites in Central America. It is here, centuries ago, that the ancient Mayan civilisation boomed.
Chichicastenango
“Chichi,” as it’s known by the local Kiche population, hosts the largest market in Central America. The town comes alive on Thursdays and Sundays when vendors (小贩) come from surrounding areas to display their goods. The market bursts with varied colours and a lively atmosphere, stocking everything from vividly-colored cloth to traditional carved wooden masks.
Guatemala City
Brightly graffitied (涂鸦) walls line the busy streets in Guatemala City where you’ll find trendy stores, relaxing bars, and diverse art galleries. Make sure to check out La Esquina, an indoor food market with some of the best food stalls in the city. The Museo Popol Vuh is a leading museum in the world of Mayan art. Here you will be able to spend a couple of hours appreciating the incredible and comprehensive collection of Mayan as well as colonial art.
Acatenango Volcano
Volcano Acatenango towers almost 4,000 metres above the surrounding landscape just outside Antigua. The hike to the summit of this volcano is one of the toughest, yet most popular, in Guatemala. Not only will you get to appreciate the breathtaking views, but you will also have a bird’s-eye view of the nearby (and extremely active) Volcan Fuego.
1. What’s the best choice for someone interested in Mayan history
A. Tikal National Park. B. Chichicastenango. C. Guatemala City. D. Acatenango Volcano.
2. What do we know about Guatemala City
A. It hosts the largest market in Central America. B It is a perfect destination for art lovers.
C. You can buy vivid cloth and masks there. D. Museo Popol Vuh is a great food market.

B
They talk about the straw(稻草)that broke the camel’s back, but really it should be the password that wiped out my memory bank.
I was going along fine—with instant recall of my bank PIN (密码), my mobile phone number and the date of my cousin’s birthday before I downloaded a gas station payment app for its new customer discount. It asked me to create a password. When I typed in “gas 1”, it was rejected for not being complex enough. I tried again: “IHateHearlessOilCompanies@”. But that was too long and didn’t include “at least one number”. But here is the thing: as soon as I added the fresh password into my memory, I instantly forgot all the others. My brain had hit its limit for passwords. I now know nothing.
I had entered some passwords in a notebook. Of course, I didn't write down the actual passwords, in case it fell into the wrong hands. Instead, I masked them in a way that only a family member could figure them out. For example, I combined my bank PIN with our postal code, then added it to a list of phone numbers. It would fool even Albert Einstein.
Maybe we need a system like the one we use to remember people’s names. You know, you form an association between a person's characteristics and their name by whispering “Skinny George, Skinny George” in heart after meeting them. The risk is that, upon seeing him, you’ll burst out the phrase. “Skinny George” might not mind, but it's possible “Boring Betty” will. As for remembering passwords as you change them, you could simply use the first and last letters of your favorite singer's greatest hits, together with the year of their release.
Maybe I’ll try that one out—but only after describing the system in the notebook. Then I’ll hide it in a place so secret that I’ll never remember where it is.
24. What can we learn about the author from the first two paragraphs
A. He fell for a marketing trick. B. He was driven mad by passwords.
C. He had a serious memory disorder. D. He was rejected by the gas station.
25. By mentioning Albert Einstein in paragraph 3, the author intends to ______.
A. show how secure his passwords were
B. challenge the intelligence of scientists
C. prove the uselessness of his passwords
D. promote a more scientific password system
26. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text
A. To encourage readers to use password notebooks.
B. To recommend a password-remembering method.
C. To complain about the trouble caused by passwords.
D. To point out the importance of using complex passwords.
27. What is the tone of the text
A. Inspiring. B. Indifferent. C. Humorous. D. Serious.

That dinosaurs ate the mammals (哺乳动物) that ran beneath their feet is not in doubt. Now an extraordinary fossil newly described in Scientific Reports, unearthed by a team led by Gang Han at Hainan Vocational University of Science and Technology in China, shows that sometimes the tables were turned.
The fossil—dated to about 125 million years ago, during the Cretaceous period—was formed when a flow of boiling volcanic mud swallowed two animals seemingly locked in a life-and-death fight. The one on top is a mammal. This animal is a herbivorous species closely related to the Triceratops (三角恐龙). Animal interactions such as this are exceptionally came in the fossil record.
One possibility is that the mammal was eating something already dead, other than hunting live prey. These days it is uncommon for small mammals to attack much larger animals. But it is not unheard of. And Dr. Han and his colleagues point out that those mammals which eat dead bodies typically leave tooth marks all over the bones of the animals. The dinosaur’s remains show no such marks. There is also a chance the fossil could be a fake. More and more convincing fakes have emerged, as this one did —though Dr. Han and his colleagues argue that the complexly connected nature of the skeletons (骨骼) makes that unlikely, too.
Assuming it is genuine, the discovery serves as a reminder that not all dinosaurs were enormous during the Cretaceous and not all mammals were tiny. From nose to tail, the dinosaur is just 1.2 meters long. The mammal is a bit under half a meter in length. Despite being half the size, the mammal has one paw firmly wrapped around one of its prey’s limbs, and another pulling on its jaw. It is biting down on the dinosaur’s chest, and has ripped off (撕扯) two of its ribs (肋骨). Before they were interrupted, it seems that the mammal was winning.
28. Which idiom is closest in meaning to underlined part “the tables were turned” in paragraph 1
A. The fittest survives. B. The hunters become hunted.
C. Fortune always favors the brave. D. The truth will always come to light.
29. Why does the author mention the “tooth mark” in paragraph 3
A. To prove the fossil was fake. B. To show the forming of the fossil.
C. To illustrate the process of hunting. D. To suggest the dinosaur was hunted alive.
30. What makes Dr. Han think the fossil is genuine
A. The size of the fossil. B. The absence of fake fossils.
C. The complexity of the skeletons. D. The consistency of the opinions.
31. What is the function of the last paragraph
A. It offers a cause. B. It highlights a solution.
C. It justifies the conclusion. D. It provides a new discovery.
D
Artificial intelligence(AI) has the potential to develop more efficient methods of farming in order to fight global warming.
Global warming threatens every aspect of our everyday lives, including crop production. It will reduce the soil moisture(水分) in areas close to the equator according to a study. We are already seeing the negative impact of these changed growing conditions on our crop production. Climate change harms poorer countries that do not have the money to import food. The result is growing food insecurity. However, agriculture is not just affected by global warming—agriculture is part of a vicious (恶性的)cycle in which farming leads to global warming, which in turn destroys agricultural production. The process of clearing land for agriculture results in widespread deforestation(毁林)and contributes to 40 percent of global methane production. Therefore, to deal with climate change, it is necessary to ensure reforestation—but how What is the path to efficient, environmentally-conscious farming
This is where AI enters the scene. Farmers use AI for methods such as precision agriculture; they can monitor crop moisture, soil composition, and temperature in growing areas, enabling farmers to increase production by learning how to take care of their crops and determine the ideal amount of water to use. Furthermore, this technology may help reduce deforestation by allowing humans to grow food in urban areas. It could be especially beneficial for countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, where much of the population lives in cities.
However, AI is far from a silver bullet—it could actually contribute to global warming as well. Due to the large amount of data that AI needs to process, training a single AI releases five times the emissions that an average car would give off during its lifetime. Further, securing access to AI on a global scale may pose some challenges. Countries will need experts in the field who can successfully use the technology and Internet connection, neither of which are always readily available. Therefore, there is still a long way for developing countries to take advantage of the benefits of AI.
Given these concerns, global leaders must consider the potential costs, and the environmental consequences of data processing before developing AI for use in agriculture.
32. What can we learn about today's agriculture from paragraph 2
A. It is the main challenge of reforestation.
B. Poorer countries rely on it more than before.
C. It is still dependent on deforestation for more land.
D. It is both a victim and a cause of global warming.
33. Which of the following is consistent with precision agriculture
A. Building farming communities in cities.
B. Abandoning traditional farming methods.
C. Making the most of agricultural resources.
D. Balancing farming with farmers' everyday lives.
34. Why is it difficult to adopt Al technology in agriculture on a global scale
A.There are technical barriers in developing countries.
B.The relevant technology is still under development.
C.The process of developing Al is difficult.
D.There is no one-size-fits-all Al technology.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.The benefits of agricultural Al
B.The future of farming:Al and agriculture
C.A block to environmentally-conscious agriculture
D.Global warming and agriculture: a vicious cycle

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Standing on a hill at Cliveden Gardens on a sunny winter day, its dark-green lake surrounded by centuries-old trees took my breath away 36 It's just a local park near London that I'd never heard of during my eight years living in the UK. As I admired the serene garden, it taught me a lesson about the British culture of understatement(低调).
"The English landscape is more beautiful because its beauty is understated, "my friend Will said to me later as we walked through an exhibition at Tate Britain. He pointed to a painting of a peaceful countryside. "This is the landscape I grew up with", he said. Unlike grand waterfalls or wild forests, this scenery doesn't shout about its beauty. 37
I wonder if Chinese tourists will explore beyond London. 38 Indeed, Oxford and Cambridge and the beloved Lake District National Park are some iconic symbols of Britain. But it would be a pity if they miss out on the lesser-known parts of the English landscape.
39 I remember a straight-A classmate once telling me he "survived exams" and another friend from Oxford introducing himself as "studying in the countryside". This modesty also has its mirror in Chinese culture. I remember my parents' telling me to work hard but not to brag about my achievements. Chinese culture is full of proverbs such as "real gold will shine sooner or later", to encourage long-term dedication to one's chosen area of expertise.
Experiencing both cultures, I've realized that the English and Chinese both express achievements with understatement. 40 It reflects the unspoken charm in both British and Chinese traditions. And it's an off-the-beaten-path attraction well worth exploration.
A. Cliveden isn't a famous holiday place.
B. Rather, its beauty is reserved for the locals only.
C. I've been impressed by British humor all the time.
D. They tend to prefer places with a strong reputation.
E. But the more I looked, the more I saw its quiet elegance.
F. Over the years, I've become familiar with British modesty.
G. This mix makes me appreciate the unusual beauty of Cliveden.

67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was a Saturday afternoon. I was having lunch when Dad told me to get ready. I became unhappy. I don’t like Saturdays! Even though it’s a holiday for most children, it is not for me because I need to go to football club.
Many kids love sports, but I am not one of them. I prefer to stay at home and read. I don’t like running, so in a team I am a bad player. The coach is tired of me and my teammates sometimes think I’m useless.
I have no idea how to play football. Usually, after practice my teammates would ask me to stay out of the game and I would just nod.
Last Thursday, the coach told us that we would be competing with another team in a month and many people would come to see the game. Our opponents (对手) were the winner last year and I froze and thought how awkward it would be if the team lost because of me.
So I decided to practice hard for the match and I went to practice every single day.
After one month, when the game day came, my teammates were unwilling to take me in the team, and I also wished to stay away from the ground as well. But they happened to be short of one player and had no choice but to take me in the team.
Our team was the Big Blues. There was a great cheer on our arrival in the field. I got very nervous. The game started and within two minutes, I got a blue card. By the time I was allowed back, the score was two goals for each team and the next goal would decide the winning team.

1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右;

第一节
Dear John,
I am delighted to hear that you will be joining us as an exchange student next month. Welcome to our school!
Our school has a variety of student clubs. One club that I highly recommend to you is the Chinese Culture Club, which aims to promote Chinese culture and traditions among students. It organizes events such as Chinese New Year celebrations, calligraphy workshops, and traditional Chinese music performances. It's a great opportunity for you to learn more about China. Besides, there are also other clubs like the Debate Club, Photography Club, and Music Club. They offer different activities and opportunities for you to explore your interests and meet new people.
I hope you will have a memorable and fulfilling experience during your stay at our school. If you have any questions or want more details, feel free to ask.
第二节
When the ball came towards me, I froze. My teammates were very tired and seemed worried. The opponents rushed towards me. Without thinking anymore, I found courage, and I kicked the ball with all my strength. The opponents didn’t think highly of me, so they didn’t think that I would be able to kick the ball so powerfully. As I kicked, the goalkeeper jumped towards the ball but missed it.
Our team, The Big Blues, won the match! All my teammates ran towards me to lift me in the air. Since that day, I have gained some confidence and started to play better. My coach and teammates are also content with me and they try to improve my skills every time I play. Now I have realized that I always liked this sport, but my problem with it had something to do with the lack of encouragement I got. Now I can build on my confidence and I’ve realized I can also play this sport very well.

W: Aren’t we supposed to bring a dish to Amy’s party It's a shared dinner, isn’t it

M: I’m afraid my budget is $400,000.
Text 4
M: Is this pineapple juice I asked the waitress for a cup of lemon juice.
W: Oh, the pineapple one is mine. She must have mixed our requests up. You asked for the juice with no added sugar, right

M: It's 2nd June, 2002.
W: OK. So I can see the issue. You’ve actually signed up for next year’s class.

W: So, how was your first semester
M: I started a work-study program at an accounting firm, but I’ve had a sudden change of heart. I'd rather not work with numbers. Instead, I want to switch to a creative field, like literature.
W: That’s a big change!
M: Indeed it is! Do you think it's appropriate to change majors at this point
W: Oh, I changed my engineering major when I was your age, too. I know you’ll do well in any field. My only concern is about the career opportunities in creative fields. Please keep this in mind while choosing a major.

W: Hey, have you heard about the debate to be held next week
M: No, I haven’t. What is it about
W: It is about whether college students should take part-time jobs. It’s a topic close to all of us. Don’t you think so
M: Yeah. When and where does it take place Next Saturday or Sunday
W: No, it’s scheduled for next Friday at 6:00 pm in the university library. The team from our college and the one from City College of San Francisco will participate in the debate.
M: Sounds interesting! I’ve always thought that part-time jobs can help students gain real-world experience.
W: That’s true, but others say they might take students’ attention away from their studies. I guess we’ll hear all these ideas in the debate!
M: Can’t wait to attend! Maybe we will learn something new!
W: But now let’s hurry to move up to the third floor. It's almost time for our math class!

W: I’m glad to hear that. Are you also a photographer
M: No. Our boss hired me and my team as video creators. But I love photography too.
W: Back in the day, I was a photographer because that was the best way to share information. But nowadays, I admire the modern journalists who use video.
M: That’s interesting. Sharing photos, written articles and interviews has changed our world. But now, I’m wondering what you think is the most critical part of journalism.
W: I’ve learned that it’s not just about being honest and sharing recent events, although that’s crucial. The most essential factor is bringing the world closer together. Globally, we must celebrate victories and support others during difficult times.

M: I recently joined the nature club at school. I had wanted to join the science club but they had no spaces left, so I had to change my decision. At first, I thought I was not interested in this, but it has turned out to be amazing. I’ve learned some interesting and helpful facts about nature. For example, do you know that 97% of the earth’s water is actually salt water found in the oceans That means only 3% of the planet's water is fresh water, yet we can only use one-third of it, as the remainder is too far underground or is ice. Another interesting fact I've learned is that forests cover 30% of all land on Earth. At least a third of that has been completely undisturbed by human activity. Speaking of forests, I read a report online in 2019, which said we lose a piece of rainforest the same size as a football field every six seconds. However, a quarter of all modern medicines come from plants found in rainforests. That is why saving the rainforests is so important. Not only do they provide us with fresh air to breathe, but they also grow things that keep us healthy. I’m going to share this fact with the nature club on Wednesday.
