Pat’s Pizza has a storied history of popularizing thin-crust pizza. This family-owned spot proudly makes some of the crispiest, thinnest pizzas around. Pat’s uses its own sausage, which also helps set its flavor apart. Pizzas are available for takeout, delivery, patio, and indoor dining.

Growing up in Kenya, Lesein Mutunkei, together with his family, always celebrated significant occasions by planting trees, which motivated him to protect the environment. It’s what the now 18-year-old soccer player treasures, especially since Kenya has an ongoing problem with deforestation.
Mutunkei follows in the footsteps of the late Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai who founded the Green Belt Movement in 1977. This initiative has resulted in the planting of over 51 million trees to date.
In 2018, Lesein decided to start a movement of his own. He started by planting one tree for every goal he scored during a football match. He called it Trees4Goals, and it has grown so much that he now plants 11 trees, one for each member of his team, every time he scores. Through this, he wants to inspire young people, specifically his fellow athletes, to follow in his footsteps, take nature conservation seriously, and promise to plant trees every time they score. As a result, some of them have adapted this practice for their sports. “Seeing that they’re taking that responsibility because of the project I started, for me, that is the biggest achievement,” he said.
The initiative has caught the attention of English football club Arsenal and Kenya’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry, which he now works with regularly and gets advice from.
Like Green Belt Movement, Trees4Goals, which has planted 5,500 trees so far, has made it. While Lesein has received some recognition for his initiative, he sets his sights on making it a worldwide phenomenon. “Football is a universal game, and climate change is a universal problem,” he explains. “It has the power to unite, educate and inspire my generation to create a safer and greener future.” This is why he wants to work with the world’s biggest football federation FIFA. As for what others can do to fight deforestation or other environmental concerns, the teenager says it’s important to just get involved in some way, no matter how small.
24. What made Lesein get interested in environmental protection
A. The influence of his family.
B. Wangari Maathai’s huge assistance.
C. The demand of the football team.
D. His fellow athletes’ encouragement.
25. Why did Lesein found Trees4Goals
A. To gain Kenya’s support. B. To set an example to others.
C. To catch Arsenal’s attention. D. To show his achievements.
26. What is Lesein’s hope for the future of Trees4Goals
A. Promoting football’s development. B. Getting beyond Green Belt Movement.
C. Beating climate change completely. D. Going global with the help of FIFA.
27. What can we learn from Lesein’s story
A. Fame is a great thirst of the young.
B. A youth is to be regarded with respect.
C. Positive thinking and action result in success.
D. Success means getting personal desires satisfied.

Life-threatening heat waves in the U. S. and Europe, along with China’s record-setting heat, are directly linked to human-caused climate change, according to international researchers. These extreme temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere this summer, breaking over 2,000 high-temperature records in the U. S. alone, are heightened by global warming. Palermo, Sicily, saw a historic 117-degree Fahrenheit temperature, while a northwest Chinese town experienced its highest recorded temperature.
The team, including experts from the World Weather Attribution group, stressed that such events would be nearly impossible without climate change. The influence of El Ni o, a natural pattern, is noted, but the burning of fossil fuel (化石燃料) is the main driver of severe heatwaves. Human activities have driven a nearly 2-degree Fahrenheit global temperature rise since the Industrial Revolution’s onset. The researchers utilized weather data and computer models to analyze the impact of warming on ongoing heatwaves. Their rapid attribution report, though yet to be peer-reviewed, indicated that greenhouse gas release increases the frequency and intensity of extreme heat events. Bernadette Woods Placky, chief meteorologist at Climate Central, agreed with this conclusion, stressing the connection between rising greenhouse gases and heat occurrences.
Even a slight temperature rise poses serious health risks, as indicated by the World Health Organization. Heat-related illnesses, heart attacks, and strokes become more probable. Vulnerable communities, including low-income areas and communities of color, face heightened risks due to rising temperatures.
Last year,Europe’s heatwaves killed around 61,000 lives, predominantly among women. Similarly, a heat dome in the Pacific Northwest in 2021 led to hundreds of deaths in Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia. Michael Wehner, a climate scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, warned that dangerous climate change is a present reality and demanded heightened awareness of its results.
In reality, the current heatwaves devastating various regions are basically linked to human-induced climate change. As the world experiences extreme temperatures, it is necessary to recognize the urgency (紧急) of solving this dangerous situation through sustainable practices and policies (政策).
28. What happened to the U. S., Europe and China this summer
A. Global warming. B. Extreme heat.
C. Climate change. D. Setting records.
29. What is the second paragraph mainly about
A. The findings from experts. B. The researchers’ hard work.
C. The effects of human activities. D. The reasons for high temperatures.
30. How do heatwaves affect people
A. They cause damage to people. B. They lead to people’s escape.
C. They encourage people to fight. D. They make people become strong.
31. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text
A. To tell the causes of heatwaves. B. To call on people to take action.
C. To introduce phenomena of heatwaves. D. To find ways to protect the environment.
D
Deepfake technology, which uses AI and machine learning and can change videos and photographs in a way that appears realistic, has frequently been covered in a negative light. The technology can be used to violate (侵犯) privacy and create fake videos. While these potential abuses of the technology are real and concerning, it doesn’t mean we should turn a blind eye to the technology’s potential .
Jaime Donally, a math teacher and technologist, has written about how a type of deepfake technology called Deep Nostalgia that went viral in 2021 can allow students to form a stronger connection with the past. She never met her grandfather in her real life. Using deepfake technology she was able to make one of the few photos that exist of her grandfather come to life, which was moving for her.“ It just gave this deeper connection,” she says.
Teachers have used the deepfake technology to bring historical figures such as Albert Einstein to life. One teacher Donally has“ communicated” with Frederick Douglass to help students connect with Douglass’ famous 1852 speech about the meaning of the Fourth of July to Black enslaved Americans. Another teacher has plans to use the technology to have students interview a historical figure and create dialogue for them.“ It makes them want to learn more,” Donally says of using deepfake technology.“ It drives them into kind of the history and understanding a bit more, and I think it also helps them identify who they are in that process.”
As much potential as deep fake technology has, there are still important privacy concerns educators need to weigh and evaluate. It’s important to check the legality(合法性) of data collection of facial structure, features, and expressions, and how that information is stored or shared. Teachers should help their students learn to navigate this new technology that will likely be a part of society going forward.
32. What can we learn from the first paragraph
A. Deepfake has aroused much interest in public.
B. Deepfake can produce more realistic photos.
C. The benefits of deepfake shouldn’t be ignored.
D. More and more fake videos created by deepfake.
33. What does“ went viral” underlined in Paragraph 2 refer to
A. Became unpopular. B. Spread fast.
C. Was ignored. D. Remained fresh.
34. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about
A. Reasons for popularity of deepfake technology.
B. Application of deepfake technology in education.
C. Expectation for deepfake technology in society.
D. The wide use of deepfake technology in classrooms.
35. What is the authors’ attitude towards the uses of deepfake
A. Objective. B. Disapproving. C. Unclear. D. Favourable.

There are many customary differences between the West and the East, of which are some of China’s eating habits, which many westerners would find quite hard to understand. 36
Not eating food dropped on a table.
I’ve seen the disgust in people’s faces here when I’ve dropped food on the table only to then pick it up and eat it. In the West, we clean our tabletops quite well. Our thought is, “A tabletop has had nothing but food on it. No one walks on it, sits on it or throws garbage on it. 37 ” We don’t get it.
Putting rice cookers on the floor.
38 Dust, germs, etc. are far more likely to get into the rice. I’ve been in several restaurants and nearly everyone I’ve seen puts their rice cookers on the floor.
39
Every Western child’s dream would be to live in China for the purpose that he or she could eat the dessert before they eat their main meal. I’m not sure about this Western tradition of eating dessert last. In China, it doesn’t matter. You can have ice cream before your meal. Westerners would find that very strange.
Drinking hot water with your meal.
Often, it has been my experience that many Chinese will not have a drink ( water, tea, etc.) with a meal. 40 I’ve often heard that hot water is better for digestion than cold water. However, we westerners like cold water or cold drinks.
A. The followings are just some of them.
B. However, when they do, it is usually hot water.
C. Having noodles or rice every day.
D. What are healthy food for westerners
E. Eating dessert before a meal.
F. Westerners don’t want their food near the floor.
G. Why is it considered so dirty

In 2017, a Chinese antique bowl fetched $ 38 million at auction (拍卖)—a new record for Chinese porcelain (瓷器). Though it was described as “a highly important and 56 (extreme) rare” piece of art, it was a shallow bowl that was used in ancient China 57 (clean) calligraphy and paint brushes. Why is Chinese porcelain so expensive The answer lies 58 the European obsession (痴迷) with Chinese porcelain.
Lars Tharp, a Chinese porcelain specialist, set out to explore why Chinese porcelain was so 59 (value). He traveled to the mountainside in which almost every single Chinese export vase, plate and cup began life in the 18th century—a mountain known as Mount Gaolin, from 60 name we get the word kaolin, or china clay. He saw how the china clay 61 (combine) with another substance, mica, that would turn it into porcelain.
62 (carry) his own newly-acquired vase, Lars uncovered some secrets of China’s porcelain capital, Jingdezhen. He saw how 63 trade between China and Europe not only changed our idea of what was beautiful but also affected the whole tradition of Chinese aesthetics too.
The porcelain fever has driven high 64 (consume) in the past ten years. Today China’s rising millionaire class are buying back the export china once shipped to Europe. The bowl 65 (sell) at auction shows that the appeal of Chinese porcelain is as strong as ever.

In a very cold January, a puppy wandered around Mr. Lacey’s house, where he lived with his wife Mamie and their daughter Doris. Icicles (冰锥) hung three feet or more from the roofs of houses and snow swallowed up cars.
The puppy had been abandoned, and it made its way down the road toward the Lacey’s small house, with its ears down and trembling from shyness and cold. Doris, whose school had been called off because of the snow, was clearing the steps when she spotted the puppy on the road.
“Come on, little dog!”she called it over. The puppy shyly wagged its tail when Doris approached. As soon as Doris put the dog down in the kitchen, her mom, Mrs. Lacey, asked where the dog came from. Mr. Lacey, who was cleaning his fingernails with his pocketknife at the table, said, “I don’t know where it came from, but I know for sure where it’s going.” Doris hugged the puppy hard against her. She said nothing.
Because of the snowy weather, Mr. Lacey couldn’t take the puppy to the shelter right away. So, it stayed in the basement, and Doris fed it leftovers, even though her mom didn’t want to waste food. Doris thought the puppy was around six months old and would be quite noisy sometimes.
Surprisingly, the puppy behaved well, didn’t cry or make trouble in the basement, and only followed Doris upstairs when she invited it. Doris often found it on the basement steps listening to the kitchen talk and smelling the food. She felt the puppy wanted company.
Even after a week, Doris didn’t name the dog, knowing her parents wouldn’t let her keep it. Her father made so little money that any pets were out of the question(不可能). Desperate to keep the dog, Doris tried to convince her parents by praising the dog’s good behavior and expressing her love for it, but her parents didn’t give a definite answer.
Despite her efforts, Doris secretly wished the bad weather would never go away, fearing the puppy’s unavoidable trip to the shelter. However, nine days after the dog had arrived, the sun was shining.
注意:1.续写词数应为 150 左右;
Doris knew it was time to say goodbye to the dog and felt rather worried.
Doris put her hand to her mouth and couldn't believe what she had heard.

{#{QQABaQ4AogioAJJAAQgCEwE4CgCQkBCAAYgGQFAIMAAASRFABCA=}#}
根据上文中的“Although it was a”和下文中的“due to busy life, my
family tried to make it a to have dinner together.”
根据第一段中的“I announced a new dinnertime practice. All family
members must be ... of their day.”
故选 A。

根据第一段中的“All family members must be prepared to ... of their day.”
和下文中的“They didn’t make a preparation.”

stories on the fly.”
根据下文中的“attempting to interest them with my interesting topics”
carry on“继续做,坚持干”,
One night my older son asked, ‘Can I go first I have a
story.’”) 故选 A。
根据下文中的“what he told all those years ago”可知,过了这么多年,
此处的“dinner conversation full of laughter”和第二段中的“dinner
conversations ... all about my sons’ study”形成对比,晚餐交流由原来的无趣、一成不变变
根据上文中的“dinner conversation full of laughter”“Instead of worrying

Doris knew it was time to say goodbye to the dog and felt rather worried. With a lump in her
throat , she petted the dog’s soft fur, her eyes filled with tears. The little puppy had become her
closest companion in the cold winter days and now she was concerned what the future might hold
for the helpless creature. Will it find a loving home or stay in the shelter with poor conditions
forever Just as Doris was at her lowest, her parents appeared from the doorway. With a smile on
Mrs. Lacey's face, she exclaimed, " Honey, We are finally able to keep the puppy as a part of our
family!"
Doris put her hand to her mouth and couldn’t believe what she had heard. She looked at her
parents in amazement." Doris, you were right. It has brought rare joy and warmth to our humble
home," Mrs. Lacey continued, "and the key is--- your dad has just got a promotion and pay rise!
We can afford a puppy at home now!" Doris hugged her parents tightly, tears of happiness
streaming down her face. The whole family was immersed in joy and laughter as they celebrated
the good news, looking forward to many happy years with their newfound family member.

W: Hello, everyone. Today, we’re glad to invite Mr. Hunter to our show. He has been a journalist
since twenty years old. He’s going to share something about the telephone interview with us.
M: Hi! To conduct a telephone interview, first, you need to get everything ready before the
interview. Write down the questions you want to ask and make sure you won’t miss anything
important.
W: OK. What else shall we do
M: Well, when you do the interview, the first thing to do is tell them your name and workplace.

M: Miss Nancy, I’ve heard that you worked in Quebec for about four years before you came to
Paris. Can you tell me something about Quebec
W: Well, of course. The city of Quebec is the capital of Quebec Province. It lies in the northern
part of Canada. It’s the ninth biggest city in the country.
M: I see. What’s the climate like there
W: Oh, it’s very comfortable. It’s fairly warm in spring, and in summer it’s mostly bright and
sunny. Fall is the most beautiful season. It’s the time to see red maple leaves. Winter in Quebec is
a bit long, usually lasting about six months. In winter you can see snow everywhere, and the
whole world turns white.
M: I can imagine that. Now please tell me something about the people there.
W: The people in the city are mostly French-Canadians, and about 95% of them only speak French.
They enjoy a better life and live longer than most people in other parts of the world.
M: Wow, it’s such a good place. You must miss it very much, don’t you
W: Yes, but not very often. I was born in New York, and was also brought up there, so I think it’s
the best place to live and work.

W: Hello, everyone. I have great news to report. Recently, Alice Green was given a higher position
in our company with higher pay. Congratulations to her! As her boss, I’ve seen her work for our
{#{QQABaQ4AogioAJJAAQgCEwE4CgCQkBCAAYgGQFAIMAAASRFABCA=}#}
company for a number of years, and things have gone quite well. First, she helped our sales
department increase sales by 200% last year. Before that, we only earned 1,500,000 dollars a year.
We have advertised and promoted our products at trade shows, on TV and in the newspaper, and
customers really enjoyed our products and they were satisfied with our service, too. Our company
has become better known, not only in our area but also in other cities. All of us know that what
people say about our business to their family and friends is most important to our company. Any
high technologies can’t compare with it. Besides increased sales, Alice has established a good
working relationship with her colleagues. She recognizes others’ abilities and respects others’
opinions. I believe she has the ability to lead the sales department in the right direction. Therefore,
she deserves the promotion and pay raise. OK, let’s welcome Alice Green to speak to us.
