P47 6
There is a small bike lying quietly in our garage. It is quite old and I can no longer ride it, but I still keep it there, as it brings back a sweet memory.
Many years ago, it was a Sunday morning on my sixth birthday. My father bought me a new bike. I could not wait to get on it and learn how to ride, so I begged my father to teach me in the garden. After I sat on the new bike, my father helped me put my two hands on the handlebars and my feet on the pedals. Then, he pushed the bike so that the pedals started to move. I was scared! But my father kept encouraging me. I could cycle around the garden shortly after my first try. It was amazing.
But unluckily, I was so busy waving at him that I didn't see a small tree in front of me. I hit it and fell off the bike. It hurt a lot and I started to cry. My father encouraged me to stand up, be brave and try again. Gradually, I was able to ride the bike more skillfully.
I kept riding the bike until it was too small for me. It is still one of my most precious possessions, for not only was it my first bike, but a symbol of my courage as well as my father's love. And I learnt that love has great power.

Charity
begins
at home.
Many people interpret the idea of “charity begins at home” to mean that it’s important to take care of yourself and your family before worrying about others. For example, they believe that it doesn’t make sense to worry about whether other families have enough to eat before your own family’s needs are taken care of. While this approach makes sense to an extent, it’s also a misinterpretation of the proverb.
Charity
begins
at home.
Studies show that happiness and a sense of fulfillment comes more from helping others and putting others ahead of yourself, along with a sense of gratitude, than from wealth or possessions. In other words, being charitable — truly charitable — is one of the secrets to a “good” life, and the idea of charity beginning at home has less to do with taking care of your own needs, and more to do with teaching your children about how to give to others.
Charity
begins
at home.
Children learn from their parents, and when you model charitable behavior and how to put others first — and why you should put others first — it’s more likely that you will raise children who have a giving spirit, not to mention fulfilling and happier lives.
