Monarch butterflies (黑脉金斑蝶)are a common summer sight in the northern United States and Canada. What makes monarchs particularly interesting is that they migrate(迁徙)---all the way south to California or Mexico and back . They are thought to be the only insect that does this .
Every year millions of Monarch butterflies go to the high mountains of Mexico for hiberation(冬眠). They make a 4,000 kilometer journey back north three months later. We leave you this week with a look at this amazing trip . We look forward to seeing you here again next week for another edition of America’s . Now thanks for watching. Out of the Mexcan forests. Over the mountains of California. And all the way to Canada. The monarch butterfly makes its way to Canda. The Monarch butterfly makes its way north for the summer. But this year, there will be far fewer butterflies reaching their final destination(目的地，终点站). 4 out of 10 will die because of lack of food. But despite dwindling() in numbers, this dreamlike migration of the Monarchs remains a spring wonder. Scientists are asking for their path to be presevrved(保存，记录).
When spring comes, they begin their long journey north . The question is often asked whether every butterfly makes the round-trip journey every year. And the answer is no. The average monarch lives about nine months. So scientists learn about monarchs'migration by catching and making marks on the insects . By recatching a monarch with such a mark and noticing where it came from , the next scientist can get to know things like the butterfly's age and its routing (路线).

We should take measures to protect the monarch butterfly from being endangered. Firstly, we can avoid cutting down trees and plants that they need, so that they can have a better natural environment to live in. Secondly, we should reduce the usage of chemicals. Most importantly, laws should be set up to limit human activity to protect the number of monarch butterflies.
In a word, we protect the monarch butterfly by planting more trees, using fewer chemicals and providing enough natural environment to live in.
