Lead-in
A reef is a ridge of material at or near the surface of the ocean. There are natural and artificial reefs. Ecosystems are sometimes classified into terrestrial, or land-based, and aquatic. Coral reefs are one of the most diverse and delicate ecosystems on the planet.
There are three main types of coral reefs: fringing reefs, barrier reefs, and atolls. Fringing reefs extend to the ocean directly from shore. Barrier reefs are the most common type of reef. They are separated from the coast by a ring of water known as a lagoon.

JOB IN THE
WORLD

people became aware of the beauty
1.What are the requirements of the job
Think & share
To get the job, the candidates have to make a short video showing how much they know about the reef. They also need to prove why they are the best person to do the job.
2.Why is the position described as “the best job in the world”
Do you agree with this description Why
It's been described as "the best job in the world" and I think so too. This is partly because people around the world are aware of the beauty of the ocean in this area, and partly because people are aware of the delicate balance that the environment is in and what humans can and must do to protect the reef.
Think & share
Australia's Great Barrier Reef is the largest, most varied and most beautiful coral reef in the world. Due to a variety of natural and man-made reasons, the Great Barrier Reef has suffered serious damage. To this end, Australia began to take a series of new measures: ① Increase the cultivation of grass carp to ensure the "healthy growth" of the Great Barrier Reef reef. They breed herbivores in large numbers, allowing them not only to eat the excess algae on the reef, but also to destroy too many coral polyps that have died. ②Scientists are trying to protect Great Barrier Reef corals by using "cloud brightening," a method to see if reflecting some of the sun's energy can help limit damage to fragile corals caused by ocean warming. Researchers have also tried a variety of methods, including using underwater plants to grow more larvae around ecosystems, laying protective membranes on reefs, and raising "turbocharged" baby corals on large farms.
3. Can you think of some other creative ways of raising awareness of protecting the reef
Think & share
4.How is the theme of nurturing nature presented differently in the two reading passages of this unit
In the first reading passage the author uses his own experience to describe the challenges of building the railway and the solutions to these problems. In this way, the author wants to tell us that we should protect nature while constructing and developing human society. In the second reading passage the author explains the best job in the world, its requirements and its duty to raise the public awareness of the beauty of nature, and to understand the delicate balance of nature. Both of the passages stress that human beings should protect our environment and live in harmony with nature.

Recently, the popular game "Black Myth: Wukong" has brought fire to Shanxi cultural tourism, and raised disputes about whether the protection of cultural relics is open.
The network red city changed one after another, and Shanxi finally waited for its own opportunity.
The first domestic 3A game, "Black Myth: Wukong" (hereinafter referred to as "Black Myth"), has quickly won the favor of players around the world with its superb graphics, rich game content and excellent action design since its launch on August 20.
As an action role-playing game with Chinese mythology as the background, its art design and scene construction are largely based on real Chinese ancient buildings. According to statistics, the game was shot in 36 scenic spots in China, of which 27 were shot in Shanxi Province, including the Yungang Grottoes, Xuankong Temple and Shanhua Temple.
This strategy not only allows players to deeply experience the unique charm of Shanxi's ancient buildings in the virtual world, but also inspires people's yearning and curiosity for these ancient buildings in reality.
Relevant data show that on the day of the launch of "Black Myth", the tourism popularity of Shanxi scenic spot, the main location of the game, increased by 156% from the
previous quarter.
In the face of the wealth of the powerful, Shanxi culture and tourism Department has also actively responded to the release of "follow Wukong Tour Shanxi" video and other ways to further promote Shanxi's cultural tourism resources.
The heat of "Black Myth: Wukong" is still continuing, and the ancient buildings in Shanxi such as Xiaoxi Day and Gaoping Tiefu Temple appear in the game have been "bathing" in "the flow of the sky" for days. On August 24, Shanxi Gaoping City Cultural Relics Bureau issued an announcement, announcing that Tiefo Temple will be a limited open visit, this news has been unable to enter the Tiefo Temple for many years, "Xi Da Pu Ben"(喜大普奔).
As a national key cultural relic protection unit, the Tiefo Temple located in Gaoping, Jincheng, Shanxi Province, has always been a dream place for lovers of culture and museums in China. Unlike those large temples with a grand appearance, Tiefo Temple "hidden" in a rural courtyard in Gaoping, the external low-key is completely unlike a national cultural treasure, visitors only open the heavy door, can see those amazing colorful sculpture legend.
It is reported that for so many years, the Iron Buddha Temple has been guarded by local residents and is not open to tourists, and many netizens have shared their regrets that they have not entered the temple gate.
Therefore, whether the iron Buddha Temple is open to the outside world, netizens have also discussed, and the argument is different.
Some netizens said that according to the person in charge of the game, the scenic spots in "Black Mythology. Wukong" only account for 30% of the real scenic spots, and it is a pity that we can not visit the site! Shanxi cultural tourism can not be opened in time, so that cultural lovers can not visit, it is really regrettable!
However, some netizens said that Tiefo Temple is a cultural relic that local residents have tried all their efforts to preserve so far, if only considering the benefits of cultural tourism, hasty opening, over-development, will have a great impact on the protection of cultural relics, so tourists should have a little patience to wait for the cultural relics department to gradually open after identification, in order to be more beneficial to the long-term protection of cultural relics.
