应用文
Good morning, dear teachers and fellow students!
Today, I am extremely excited to stand here and deliver a speech.
The Olympic spirit embodies the essence of perseverance , unity, and the relentless pursuit of
excellence. It’s the flame that burns in the hearts of athletes, driving them to push beyond their
limits and achieve what was once thought impossible.
As a young student, I am determined to embrace this Olympic mindset in my journey towards
realizing my dreams. I will work hard, set ambitious targets, and never give up. I will learn to
cooperate with others, because only in that way can we accomplish more than we do alone.
Thank you all!
读后续写:
That left Aamir no choice but to throw the shoe onto the train. But it was not a powerful
pitch, not even close. The shoe brushed past the window frame and fell on the platform, like a
dead leaf. The boy was so moved when he witnessed the whole process. Seeing Aamir wearing
just a worn-out flip-flop, he decided to do something for him. Meanwhile, Aamir hurriedly took
off the other flip-flop, dashing to the shoe and picking it up, ready to chase after the train again.
But when he raised his head, Aamir saw the other shoe thrown out of the train window.
Before he could react to this, the train had sped up and vanished in the distance, leaving him
rooted to the spot. For a split second, he understood this was a “gift” that the boy had sent to him.
At that time, he knew he’d finally got a pair of pretty shoes of his own. Also, this experience made
him aware that some shoes were not made for walking, but for spreading love, like this black
leather one, which was always shining in his heart.

听力原文录音稿:
Text 1
M: Jane, do you have a map of Manchester I want to find a good place to eat.
W: Why not try Chinatown There are plenty of good Chinese restaurants there, and it's near
here.
Text 2
M: Let's do something different for vacation this year. Oh, let's go to Colorado. I want to learn
to snowboard.
W: Oh, Paul, you know I don't like cold weather. Can't we go someplace warm, like the beach
Text 3
W: This job is for three days a week: Monday, Friday, and Saturday. Are you Okay with that
M: Mmm... I was hoping to have Saturday free. But I need the job, so... can you tell me what
exactly I will do
Text 4
M: Do you know if John's coming home for dinner
W: He'll be late. He said not to wait for him.
Text 5
W: I'm really tired from packing all these boxes for three hours. It's about time to call it a day.
M: I know. Maybe we could do it first thing tomorrow morning.
W: Why not These orders are not urgent.
Text 6
M: Lisa Hi!
W: Hi, Ned.
M: Don't you usually drive to work
W: Usually, but not in bad weather.
M: Why is that
W: The traffic gets a lot worse when it rains or snows.
M: I always take the train. It's a lot faster for me than driving.
W: It's faster for me, too, but the time isn't always convenient.
M: Yeah, but think of all the things you can do on the train----read a book or the newspaper...
W: Or answer my email... No thanks! My workday is long enough already.
Text 7
W: I think the car we saw yesterday would be a good deal. What do you think
M: Yes, but I think you should ask someone to take a look at it just to be sure.
{#{QQABKQyEogggAIIAAQgCAwE6CkEQkACACQgGBEAAIAAASBFABCA=}#}
W: My friend Jack knows cars, and he helped me do the check this morning.
M: It was smart of you to think ahead. Have you and the salesman agreed on a price
W: Yes, he finally agreed to accept the discounted price I asked.
M: Then have you thought about how to pay
W: Well, I've saved up enough money to pay cash for this car.
M: Good. Let me go with you to make the payment and drive the car home for you.
W: Thank you. That would make it much easier for me.
M: You're welcome. Let's go take care of that right now.
Text 8
M: Being away from home for college can be stressful. Besides all the pressures of study, there's
the pressure on your pocket. Today, let's go to a university to find out. Excuse me. Can I ask you a
few questions
W: Well, Okay.
M: How do you find the cost of living in the city
W: Everything is expensive, including clothing, housing, and traveling.
M: So, what do you spend most on
W: Transport, I think. For food, if I cook myself, it's not expensive at all. For clothing, I bring my
clothes here from my home country, where they're nice and cheap. But every week, I have to
spend more than 100 pounds on the trains.
M: Then what's the social life like
W: I'm a very social person. I love hanging out with my friends and meeting new people.
Thankfully, I don't drink nor smoke, so the only expense is maybe tickets to the cinemas, club,
and so on.
Text 9
W: Can you fix a time for the next meeting, Alex How about June 12th That's after the trade
exhibition.
M: I thought something was happening on that day, Rebecca.
W: Oh, yes. You're right. The people from Head Office are coming.
M: What time does their plane arrive Can we have the meeting in the morning
W: No, it's all arranged. I'm meeting them at half past ten, so I won't be available at all that day.
M: Well, let's have the meeting earlier in June, then. The trade exhibition finishes on the third,
doesn't it
W: Yes, but we need John's sales report for the meeting. How's it going
M: I'm afraid John hasn't started yet. The figures won't be in place till next week.
{#{QQABKQyEogggAIIAAQgCAwE6CkEQkACACQgGBEAAIAAASBFABCA=}#}
W:Will it be ready early in June
M: Well, not really. He told me that he will finish them by June 10th.
W: So, we're looking at the week starting the 17th. How about two o'clock on that day
M: I think that's Okay. Let's meet here again then.
Text 10
W: Hello, everyone. In today's program, I'd like to share a true story of mine. One day, my friends
and I had just finished lunch at a hotel when it started to rain heavily. When it became lighter, I
decided to brave the train to get car and go home. It was parked three blocks away. My friends
argued I shouldn't go because at that time, I was due to give birth in three months. I promised
I'd be very careful. One of them wanted to come with me, but I insisted she stay with another
friend who needed help with her baby. When I walked to the first crossroads, a taxi stopped
and a passenger came out with an umbrella . Before I knew what was happening , he walked
right beside me and told me he would walk with me to where I would go. I refused, but he insisted.
During our walk, he kept telling me to walk slowly. When we got to the car park, I thanked him,
and we parted ways. I did not get his name and may not even recognize him now. Did he
purposely stop for me I'll never know.

It was October 2005, and the catastrophic earthquake killing some 79,000 people in Pakistan had reduced
the valley to mud and ruins.
Yasmeen Lari, a 65-year-old architect, was there to help lead the reconstruction of settlements, but she had
never done disaster work before. Lari was known for designing smooth towers of glass and concrete. But here,
she'd be drawing plans for earthquake-resistant homes using stone and timber debris(木材碎片 ). With each
passing day, she felt deeply right to do disaster-relief work. So she made it her new mission, spending the next
four months working with volunteer architects and engineers from Pakistan and abroad.
Inspired by local buildings made with sustainable materials such as timber debris, bamboo and mud, Lari's
shelters can better withstand disasters. Lari says this local, cost-effective and zero-carbon approach is creating an
ecosystem. Anyone can learn by watching DIY videos on Lari’s Zero Carbon Channel on YouTube.
The design won a UN World Habitat Prize in 2018.“We need to believe in people’s capacity to bring about
change. I treat displaced people as partners, not victims. They know what to do,” says Lari.
Over the decades, Yasmeen Lari has won many awards as architect and environmentalist. While it may seem
like an unlikely path for a girl who was born into a well-to-do family in1941, she had an unconventional
upbringing. At home, her father would talk about the desperate need for housing. Listening to her father talk
about the housing crisis and need for architects made an impression on Lari. On a family visit to London when
she was 15, she applied to architecture school at Oxford Brookes University. She laughs as she recalls her
bravery.
At age 83, Yasmeen Lari is still full of ideas about zero-carbon designs, skills building and self-sustaining
villages. “Architects can no longer work for just the one percent,” she says. “That doesn't allow them to serve
humanity as much as they could.”
24. What can we learn about Lari from the first two paragraphs
A. She felt considerably proud to do disaster-relief work.
B. She started a brand-new volunteer working experience.
C. She was good at designing earthquake-resistant houses.
D. She reconstructed the settlements with glass and concrete.
25. Why did Lari decide to apply to architecture school
A. Her interest in architecture drove her.
B. Her father encouraged her to path unusual.
C. Her father talked about the demand for architects.

{#{QQABKQyEogggAIIAAQgCAwE6CkEQkACACQgGBEAAIAAASBFABCA=}#}
D. Her rich family allowed her to pursue the most of dream.
26. Which of the following best describes Yasmeen Lari
A. Sensitive and brave. B. Determined and cooperative.
C. Honest and generous. D. Sympathetic and eco-responsible.

Fathers can give their children an educational advantage at primary school by reading, drawing and playing
with them, according to a newly published report. Research led by the University of Leeds has found that
children do better at primary school if their fathers regularly spend time with them on interactive engagement
activities like reading, playing, telling stories, drawing and singing.
Analysing primary school test scores for five- and seven-year-olds, the researchers used a representative
sample of nearly 5,000 mother-father households in England from the Millenium Cohort Study.
According to the research, dads who regularly drew, played and read with their three-year-olds helped their
children do better at school by age five. Dads being involved at age five also helped improve scores in
seven-year-olds’ Key Stage Assessments.
Dr Helen Norman, who led the research, said, “Mothers still tend to assume the primary care r role and
therefore tend to do the most childcare, but if fathers enthusiastically engage in childcare too, it significantly
increases the likelihood of children getting better grades in primary school. This is why encouraging and
supporting fathers to share childcare with the mother, from an early stage in the child's life, is critical.”
Dads’ involvement impacted positively on their children’s school achievement regardless of the child's
gender(性别), race, age in the school year and household income, according to the report.
There were different effects when mums and dads took part in the same activities—the data showed that
mums had more of an impact on young children's emotional and social behaviors than educational achievement.
The researchers recommend that dads carve out as much time as they can to engage in interactive activities
with their children each week. For busy, working dads, even just ten minutes a day could potentially have
educational benefits. They also recommend that schools and early years education providers routinely take both
parents’ contact details (where possible) and develop strategies to engage fathers.
27. What can we learn about the research
A. Mums had more impact on young children's educational achievement.
B. Dads’ positive impact on kids learning had nothing to do with the gender.
C. Dads’ involvement at age 3 helped promote academic performance at age 7.
D. The researchers investigated nearly 5,000 single parent families in England.
28. Who may give his children the most educational advantage at primary school
A. A father who is totally busy with his work.
B. A father who is really good at playing basketball.
C. A father who has absolutely low household income.
D. A father who actively shares childcare with the mother.
29. What advice do the researchers offer on children's early years education
A. Dads should spare ten minutes a day to apparently benefit kids.
B. Dads should maximize time to interact with their kids each week.
C. Schools should generate strategies to involve parents in management.
D. Schools should regularly contact parents to develop mother-engagement.
30. What is the main idea of the text
A. It's crucial that fathers can have a lasting impact on children.
B. Young children can get brilliant childhood with father-engagement.
4
{#{QQABKQyEogggAIIAAQgCAwE6CkEQkACACQgGBEAAIAAASBFABCA=}#}
C. Fathers and mothers should share childcare in family early education.
D. Young children do better at school if their dads read and play with them.

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选岀可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
WHYADOSE OF FEAR IS GOOD FOR YOU
Eleanor Roosevelt once said: “Do one thing every day that scares you.” She was onto something. Science
has shown that feeling fear — in the right doses (量) — has several benefits.
·Feeling fear is fun and exciting. Many people scare themselves on purpose. 31
When you step outside your comfort zone, it is fear that makes you feel alive, which is fun and exciting. The
excitement generated can also help reduce depression by increasing adrenaline (肾上腺素 ), which in turn
increases excitement and glucose (changed into energy). 32 A dose of fear is an “eraser” for the mind.
· 33 Being afraid of something can remind you of an area of your life that is limiting you. For
instance, if you’re afraid of flying but face the fear and gather up the courage to step on an airplane, you can
travel the world. Adding to your experiences means that you’ll create a varied life. You’ll also have fewer regrets.
·Fear makes you aware of what’s really important in life. How often have you said to yourself: “When I
have more time, I’ll spend it with my family, pursue my passion, eat healthier or exercise more” Fear makes you
realize that “now” is the only time you have to achieve and follow through what is most important.
34
Some say where fear meets courage is the sweet spot in which mountains get scaled and rivers are run.
35 We should all embrace our fear. Not the big fears that are life-threatening but the helpful fears that come
in small doses.
A. Fear helps you succeed.
B. “Later” is never ensured.
C. Fear allows you to live life to the fullest.
D. They watch scary movies, ride roller coasters or go skydiving.
E. And every time you come through a challenge, you feel empowered.
F. Most of all, fear can be the birth place of change, creativity and innovation.
G. Actually, it’s nearly impossible to be thinking of your worries when you are experiencing fear.

Shoes are made for walking.
But Aamir, a homeless Indian boy, doubted it. Wandering the noisy railway platform(站台), he found
one of his flip-flops (人字拖鞋) broken again. He hurried to a corner, sat down and tried to fix it, his bare foot
pressing awkwardly against the ground. However, it was beyond repair.
He gave up and looked around aimlessly, staring at people’s shoes. Suddenly, his eyes were drawn to two
boyish legs wearing flawlessly(完美地) white socks and equally perfect black leather shoes, which were
shining in the midday sun. It was a boy of his age. He couldn’t treasure his possessions too much because
every ten seconds, he stopped, bent down and carefully wiped the dust from his shoes. His father was
constantly glancing over and urging him, “Hurry up! The train is coming!”
Aamir’s eyes followed the father and son, but mostly the leather shoes, as if enchanted ( 被施魔法的 ).
Imagining himself wearing them, the comfort from the good leather, and the jaw-dropping look on his friends’
faces, he couldn’t help flashing a big smile.
The bell of the train drew him back; the fancy-shoe boy and his father were about to get aboard. They
tried to crowd into the doorway. However, the instant the boy entered the compartment (车厢 ), one of his
shoes fell off and before he could pick it up, the train began to pull away.
The shoe was now lying alone on the platform. Aamir’s eyes lit up with excitement. Like an arrow, he
shot for the shoe and then picked it up, holding it with both hands as if holding the Queen’s crown(王冠).
After a few seconds of hesitating and looking from the shoe to the train and back, he began racing—with only
one good shoe, his flip-flop.
He held the leather shoe up, trying to pass it to the boy through the window, who was desperately
reaching out his hand as well. However, it was never close enough.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为 150 左右;
2. 请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
That left Aamir no choice but to throw the shoe onto the rain.
But when he raised his head, Aamir saw the other shoe thrown out of the train window.
