Two Canadian cyclists are riding 8, 000 kilometers across Canada with an important task. The amazing riders have Parkinson's disease (帕金森病) and during their Spinning Wheels Tour, they are calling on others with Parkinson's disease to get on their bikes and rediscover freedom and joy.
Iseman and Redmond were both in good health before they were diagnosed (被诊断) with Parkinson's disease and felt determined to keep active and push themselves. This is the message they wish to give to those 100, 000 Canadians who have the same disease. Some 9 out of 10 Canadians with Parkinson's disease need help and live in silence. As the number of those diagnosed with the disease is increasing each year, this brave team wants to give these people confidence.
Although many people with Parkinson's disease are afraid to get on a bike, the bottom line is that they must do an activity that increases their heart rate. “Though your fears and the voice inside your head say, ‘I can’t, ’ your body is saying, ‘I can, and I need to. ’ In fact, people with Parkinson's disease can take part in various types of activities, which have a positive effect on the disease,” Iseman said.
On August 2, the riders were in Thunder Bay, Ontario, over halfway through their three- month ride. They are being interviewed by local news stations along the way, hoping to get the word out and collect money for the research on the disease. “When I got on a bike on the tour, I felt as if lightning struck. I felt like I was fast and, more importantly, I felt free. I could play in the wind and race without a finish line, ” Redmond explained. This team wants to inspire others to do the same. To ride with Parkinson's disease, people may have to make a few changes, but the rewards are boundless (无限的) — being great for the mind, body, and mood. And the joy is back.
24. Why do Iseman and Redmond take the cycling tour
A. To encourage those with Parkinson's disease to stay active.
B. To call on healthy people to take sightseeing trips.
C. To collect money for people with serious disease.
D. To raise public awareness of green travel.
25. What does Iseman say about people with Parkinson's disease in Para. 3
A. They suffer a lot from poverty and poor health.
B. They are willing to do exercise regularly.
C. They should go in for physical activities.
D. They fear to talk about their disease.
26. How did Redmond find his cycling tour
A. Boring. B. Difficult. C. Risky. D. Enjoyable.
27. What does the text mainly tell us
A. The friendship between two cyclists. B. The best way to care for patients.
C. A popular cycling competition. D. A meaningful riding activity.

As the world tries to give up fossil fuels, there is a lot of focus on renewable energy sources like wind and solar energy. But one very promising source of energy comes from deep inside the earth. And old oil wells could help greatly in developing and using this energy resource.
“Geothermal (地热的) ” power is based on the heat that comes from deep inside the earth. “Geo” means Earth and “thermal” means “heat”. Earth's core, deep in the center of the planet, is about as hot as the sun's surface, and is expected to stay that way for billions of years. This heat slowly makes its way outward from the core. In some places, where the rocks have lots of holes in them, this heat comes out in different kinds of hot springs, with hot water and steam coming out naturally through the earth's surface. In areas like this, humans have been using the earth's heat for different purposes for hundreds of years.
In general, though geothermal energy requires drilling (钻孔) deep into the earth. There are many different ways of collecting the heat and different ways of using it. But these geothermal wells can easily produce huge amounts of heat and electricity for hundreds of years—all without pollution.
There is another positive side to geothermal energy—it can produce power day and night all year long. Solar power depends on the sun, and wind power depends on wind. That means that they are not constant. But energy from geothermal sources is always available (可获得的) . However, geothermal energy also faces a big challenge— drilling down deep enough to create a geothermal plant is hard, and it costs a lot of money. Some geothermal plants require drilling down more than 4 miles (6. 5 kilometers) below the earth's surface. Drilling down even deeper can lead to much more heat and far more powerful energy sources.
The costs of all this drilling are a big part of what has limited geothermal projects. But now people are starting to think about a clever idea that could make geothermal energy far cheaper: using oil wells that are already there.
28. What can be learned about geothermal energy from the text
A. It is collected from the depths of the earth. B. It doesn't belong to renewable energy.
C. It has only been used for a century. D. It can be got from fossil fuels.
29. What might NOT be the advantage of geothermal energy
A. Various ways of using it. B. Available all the time.
C. Environmentally friendly. D. Cheap and easy to collect.
30. What does the underlined word “That” in Para. 4 refer to
A. What effects geothermal energy has on our lives.
B. How solar energy and wind energy are stored.
C. What solar power and wind power rely on.
D. How geothermal energy can be used.
31. Why are people turning to oil wells for geothermal energy
A. To reduce the costs. B. To limit geothermal projects.
C. To take care of the environment. D. To try to save and make full use of energy.
D

My real 85 (intend) was to improve my reading ability.

W: Yes, it was just for a few months. I attended Johnson High School in Chicago.
M: Tell me why you are interested in working for this company, will you
W: I think working in this company would give me the best opportunity to use what I've learned at college. I think this company has a great future. So for a long time I've been thinking I'd like to work for this company.
M: Have you ever worked during your university days
W: Yes. I worked as a tutor to teach English to a middle school student.
M: There's good chance for you to come to work for this company. Thank you for coming. We'll let you know the result as soon as possible.
(Text 10)
W: The National Park we will visit is located in the desert just north of our city. Like any hike of this nature, you should be prepared for the adventure in the desert: First, hike with a partner for safety. I enjoy hiking with family members and close friends. Second, carry a cell phone with you. However, keep in mind that you might not get any signal in some places, so don't depend on it. Third, be sure to have the right clothing and shoes or boots for the hike. Light, breathable clothing is the best during the summer, along with the hat and strong hiking shoes. Forth, carry plenty of water. Having a few snacks can give you energy, too. Fifth, take a small first- aid box with you, particularly on longer hikes, in case you get injured. Sixth, pack a detailed map of the area you're hiking, along with a compass or a GPS to locate your position. And finally, take nothing home with you except pictures and memories. You can protect these areas by leaving all rocks, flowers, and other objects for future visitors.

写作
One possible version:
October 2nd, Wednesday Sunny
One month has passed since I got to this high school to receive education in Sydney, Australia.
It is the first time that I have been away from my parents alone, so I felt a little homesick in the beginning. However, I soon got used to the new environment. To begin with, the campus is quite different from my school at home. It is located at the foot of a mountain where there is natural scenery all around. Breathing fresh air can be good for our health. As for my classmates, they are so friendly that they make me less homesick.
I think I'll spend this period studying diligently and happily and I can surely benefit much from my stay here.
