work
3 red-crowned crane birds hatched at the station through his artificial program in 1996.
But despite tasting success,Zhao and his team encountered hardships the following year.In
1997,not a single red-crowned crane bird hatched.And in 1998,only one red-crowned
crane chick hatched through artificial breeding, but it died soon after.
In 1999,the station rescued 7 injured red-crowned cranes from the wild, which brought
a crucial ray of hope for the program. That drove Zhao and his colleagues to check
temperature control devices,go through a huge amount of data, and seek advice from
experts, hoping to achieve a breakthrough in artificial breeding. They tried every possible
method, even consulting technicians from nearby chicken farms. Finally, the artificial
breeding program improved a lot.Later,a record of 85 red-crowned crane birds hatched at
the station through a combination of artificial and natural breeding methods.Over the past
30 years,Zhao has always been personally involved in the hatching process."This part is
the most crucial;there cannot be the slightest error,"he said.
Later,Zhao realized that with the number of artificially bred red-crowned cranes
increasing, the bond between the cranes and humans was growing stronger."But they are
the spirits of nature and hence should return to nature,"Zhao said. Therefore,Zhao provided
outdoor training to artificially bred red-crowned cranes in the reserve in order to increase
the number of wild red-crowned cranes.Up to now,Zhao and his team have bred and
released more than 200 red-crowned cranes after ensuring they will be able to survive in
nature.

Dear David,
Having reviewed your initial draft for the poster design competition on“Protecting Wildlife”, I'm writing to offer some suggestions for improvement. (写信目的)
Your design seems to lack a message that can motivate people to take action. Additionally, the quality of the images and the cluttered layout need to be improved.(指出问题)
Therefore, I suggest you use a concise and convincing message and high-quality images relevant to the theme. Meanwhile, you'd better simplify the layout by removing some unnecessary elements that distract attention from the message. (修改建议)
I hope my feedback is helpful. Best of luck with your design. (文体范式:实现交际的完整性)
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节:读后续写 (25)
“Are you sure you want to throw that out ” he asked. My throat twisted into a knot. “It’s broken,” I murmured. “That’s a simple repair.” In his apartment, Mr. Chen spread the broken pieces out like a jigsaw puzzle. After finding each match, he taught me to delicately rebuild the bowl, filling in the crack lines with a special paint. Finally, the bowl was together again. I held it gently in the palm of my hand and admired it for long. Slightly different, it was as beautiful as before. After expressing gratitude to Mr. Chen, I couldn’t wait to rush back home to show it to Mom (衔接).
I brought the repaired bowl into her room. Obviously, she was more than surprised to see the bowl again. “It’s stunning,” she marveled with amazed disbelief, running her fingertip over the fixed cracks. “Mr. Chen helped me mend it. He is a superb craftsman,” I said with a grin blooming on my face. “Definitely. After being repaired, it looks much stronger than before,” said Mom, smiling radiantly and stroking my head lovingly. Sitting on the edge of Mom’s bed and holding her hand, I came to know that our life could also be “repaired” and revitalized, just like this repaired bowl (回扣原文,点明主题).

M: Tom’s story is not too different from mine. I'm Chinese-American. He grew up in Chinatown in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. I grew up in Chinatown in Los Angeles. So, I don't have to dig too deep into my life to relate to Tom. And Tom is really good at trying to stay positive when situations are difficult. He uses his wits and a sense of humor to overcome hardships. (14) Those are the things I can definitely relate to. In the beginning, Tom tries to deal with a lot of his obstacles with force. But later he learns to use his head a bit more. (14) That’s something that I’ve developed as I'm getting older.
W: What’s the most valuable message you want kids to gain from this movie (15)
