My teacher held up a piece of broken glass and asked, “Who broke this window ”
Thirty boys tried to think about not only what they had done, but also what our teacher may have found out. She seldom became angry, but she was this time.
“Oh,” I thought. I was the one who broke the window. It was caused by a naughty throw of a baseball. If I admitted guilt, I would be in a lot of trouble. How would I be able to pay for a big window like that I didn’t even get an allowance. “My father is going to have a fit,” I thought. I didn’t want to raise my hand, but some force much stronger than I was pulled it skyward. I told the truth. “I did it.” It was hard enough to say what I had done.
My teacher took down a book from one of our library shelves and I had never known my teacher to strike a student, but I feared she was going to start with me.
“I know how you like birds,” she said as she stood looking down at my guilt-ridden face. “Here is that field guide about birds that you are constantly checking out. It is yours now. It’s time we got a new one for the school anyway. You will not be punished as long as you remember that I am not rewarding you for your misdeed, I am rewarding you for your truthfulness.”
I couldn’t believe it! I wasn’t being punished and I was getting my own bird field guide — the very one that I had been saving up money to buy.
All that remains of that day is my memory and the lesson my teacher taught me. That lesson stays with me every day, and it will echo forever.
24. From the story, we can learn that the boy ________.
A. didn’t break the window on purpose
B. lacked the strength to admit his guilt
C. tried to think about what he had done
D. didn’t know what the teacher would find out
25. If the boy admitted guilt, he thought he would not ________.
A. be punished by the teacher
B. make his father angry
C. pay for the broken window
D. get a bird field guide

A. Afraid→Surprised→Thankful
B. Frightened→Amazed→Proud
C. Regretful→Guilty→Excited
D. Nervous→Afraid→Satisfied
27. What is the lesson the boy’s teacher taught him
A. Every coin has two sides. B. Honesty is always valued.
C. Bad luck never comes alone. D. It’s never too late to be careful.

In June 2020, a minute-long video with a young ballet student dancing in the rain began popular on the Internet.
The popularity of the video has attracted people’s attention on the unlikely story of a ballet school in a poor small town of Lagos, Nigeria: the Leap of Dance School. Set up in 2017, the school has changed the lives of its students, providing them a place to dance and to dream. And in the last few months, it has inspired influential people in ballet to lend a hand. Seemingly overnight, a world of chances has opened up. The students have received invitations to attend famous schools and companies overseas, and the school has received lots of donations, which will help them build a proper space and a real dance floor.
For now, the Leap of Dance School is housed at the home of its founder, Daniel Owoseni Ajala. Every day after school, Mr Ajala’s 12 students walk to his apartment, where he pushes aside his furniture to leave a space to dance.
When Mr Ajala, 29, set up Leap of Dance three years ago, he had only a dream: to open a ballet school for students who were serious about learning the art form and possibly pursuing (追求) it professionally one day.
As a child, Mr Ajala became crazy about ballet after watching Save the Last Dance. The 2001 movie tells about a young ballet dancer who overcomes all kinds of difficulties and finally achieves her dream.
Mr Ajala taught himself by watching lessons and professional companies on YouTube; he also signed up for a few crash courses in ballet which take a very short period at a local dance centre. And so the Leap of Dance school was born.
28. What do we know about the Leap of Dance School

A. To share a precious memory.
B. To stress the popularity of the movie.
C. To show Mr Ajala liked watching movies.
D. To explain why Mr Ajala fell in love with ballet.

Many teenagers may have a very confusing time filled with worries in high school. Here are some tips which can help you succeed in the years.
32 You may be faced with too many choices in your life and it’s unwise to try everything. Just focus on your favorite. Consider all the benefits that it brings into your life and then see how you can develop your passion into a possible job choice.
Get away from the friends that offer unfriendly advice and negativity (否定性). There is no place for that kind of behavior at any stage of your life. And you should value yourself highly enough to get rid of these people. 33
Read as much as you can. Pick up a book on anything that increases your knowledge. Stop spending hours in watching your favorite TV shows. 34 You’ll notice in a few days how you begin to see things in a different way.
Limit the time spent on social media. I am 19 years old, so I understand just how much time can be wasted on technology, especially the Internet and cellphones. 35 Instead once you spend that time improving yourself, your life begins to shape and turn into exactly what you want it to be.
Make mistakes. Look at a mistake you’ve made from every possible way and take the lessons from it. 36 You can’t achieve this by trying to be perfect all the time. It’s okay to make mistakes.

Have you ever asked yourself why children go to school You will 52 (probable) say that they go to learn languages, history, science and some other knowledge. That’s quite true, but do you know 53 they learn these things
We send our children to school to prepare them 54 the future when they grow up and have to work for 55 (they). Nearly everything they study at school has some practical use in their life. But is that 56 only reason why they go to school
There is more in education than just 57 (learn) facts. We go to school to learn how to learn, so that when we have left school we can continue to learn. A man 58 really knows how to learn will always be 59 (success), because when he has to do something new, he will not only be able to do it well himself, he will also be able 60 (teach) others how to do it in the best way. “Aman, the dish you prepared for my lunch yesterday was so tasty that all my friends ate it up within minutes. I had to make do with eating their lunches,” said Neelam.
“Ha ha!Next time, remind me to prepare some extra for your friends as well,” said Aman.“I am happy that you have taken over the kitchen duties now. Imagine having to eat Dad's boring food for a whole week, like the bread he used to make for us last year when Mom had gone out of town!” said Neelam.
Dad, who had just walked into the kitchen, overheard Neelam's words and asked in mock (假装的) anger, “Who is complaining(埋怨) about my cooking skills?”
“Not complaining, Dad, just kidding,” said Neelam.
The three laughed. Aman then prepared tea for his parents and served it to them.
“Thank you, Aman, for helping Dad with the housework while I have been unwell,” said Mom.“I hope it has not been too much trouble for you. Hope you are not missing out on your schoolwork because of this.”
“Don't worry, Mom.You just relax. I have more than enough time to study in the evenings,” said Aman.
In a couple of days, Aman's mother felt better and took over the kitchen duties. Aman continued to help around the kitchen by cutting the vegetables and preparing the soup. 读后续写
A couple of months later, Aman's school organized a day long picnic. The place was a few kilometers away from the city. It was quiet and beautiful. As the kids were enjoying themselves in nature, one of the teachers got a phone call. It was from the cooks, who were supposed to prepare the lunch. Their car had broken down and by the time they got there, it would be way past lunchtime. The teachers were very worried since they weren't skilled at cooking for a large number of people.
While the teachers discussed what to do, Aman stepped forwards and said,“If you do not mind, I can help.” The teachers were all surprised. But seeing a few other kids also wanting to help, the teachers agreed that they could have a try. Aman then divided his friends into groups and gave each group a task. To make it more fun, Aman and his friends sang songs and played word games as they cooked. Before everyone knew it, lunch was ready!Even though it was simpler than the one planned for the picnic, everyone ate it with great enjoyment.
