Learning objectives
What is predicative(表语)
Predicative comes after a verb such as be, look, taste,smell, sound, feel, get, become, etc. It tells what is said about the subject.
跟在连系动词be, look, taste,smell, sound, get, become等词之后的即为表语,用来说明主语的状态的句子成分。
Her sister is a nurse.
When he heard the news, he got angry.
She often feels lonely at home.

英语中有很多与感觉有关的动词,
其V-ing形式用来形容事物,表示“令人……的”;
其V-ed形式用来形容人,表示“感到……的”。

1 不定式作表语 (to-infinitive as predicative)
不定式作表语时表示的动作往往是具体的、一次性的动作,特别是将来的动作。
通常主语是表示“目的、愿望、梦想、需求”等的名词或what 引导的主语从句。
【点拨】 当主语部分含有实义动词do 的某种形式时,作表语的不定式可以省略to。

2 动名词作表语(-ing as predicative)
动名词作表语时表示一般性、习惯性的动作或抽象的动作。通常主语是表示“身份、职业”等的名词,多数情况下主语与表语可以互换。
My job is teaching.=Teaching is my job. 我的工作就是教学。
Our duty is serving the people. 我们的职责是为人民服务。
My idea is making a plan first. 我的想法是先制订一个计划。
【点拨】 一般来说,表示比较抽象的一般行为时,多用动名词作表语;
表示具体某次动作,特别是将来的动作时,多用不定式作表语。

注意:这种区别并不是绝对的。例外的情况也不少,有时可以互用。

3 分词作表语(-ing & -ed as predicative)
此类现在分词和过去分词已经具有明显的形容词特征,因此可以作为形容词用。
现在分词(-ing)作表语,表示主语的性质、特征,意为“令人……的”
过去分词(-ed)作表语,表示主语的状态,意为“感到……的”
The influence of computer games is worrying. 电脑游戏的影响令人担忧。

Pablo Picasso was born in Spain in 1881. His father was a painter and art teacher who gave his son the first lesson in drawing. He won a prize-"Science and Charity"for his first important painting when he was only fifteen.
Mr. Feng Zikai is famous for his cartoons, but his emphasis on calligraphy and self-regard are far above cartoons. He once said, "Calligraphy is the highest art... One of the main principles of art is to receive by feeling. The purest sense is nothing more than the eyes and ears.
