2. rather than
(1)rather than 意为"而不是"，常用于连接平行
结构，它连接的可以是动词、动词不定式、v-ing、名词、代词、形容词、介词短语或句子。
He is a sailor rather than an explorer.他是一个海员，而不是一个探险者。
He is kind-hearted rather than foolish. 他是好心，而不是傻。
We should help him rather than he should help us.我们应该帮助他，而不是他应该帮助我们。
(2)rather than 连接两个不定式时，后一个常省略 to。 ratherthan位于句首时，也常跟不带 to的动词不定式
He wanted to swim rather than play volleyball. 他想去游泳，不想去打排球。
Rather than disappoint them, he told the children amusing stories.他不让孩子们失望，给他们讲有趣的故事。
(3)rather than 连接的两个并列成分作主语时，谓语动词应与rather than 前面的成分在人称和数上保持一致。具有相同用法
的词语还有 as well as, together with, with, besides等。
My mother rather than I is fond of that kind of movie.是我母亲，而不是我，喜欢那种类型的电影。
3. reject
(1)vt.拒绝接受，不予考虑；拒收，不录
用，拒绝接纳；（因质量差）不用，不出售，不出版
reject an argument/a claim/a decision/an offer / a suggestion 拒绝接受一个论点/一项要求/一个
决定/一项提议/一个建议
I regret to inform you that your application has been
rejected.很遗憾地通知你，你的申请被拒绝了。

eyesight.伊恩因为视力不好而被拒绝入伍。
Imperfect articles are rejected by our quality control.我们严把质量关，不完美的文章都被退回。
(2)vt.不够关心，慢待；抛弃
On my recent visit, I held a lively three-month-old
panda that had been rejected by its mother. 在我最近的
一次参观中，我抱了一只被母亲遗弃的活泼的熊猫，
它三个月大。
When her mother left home to work far away from home, she felt rejected and helpless.当她的妈妈离开家去很远的地方工作后，她觉得遭到了抛弃而且无能为力。
