三、阅读理解
A
Why do we read, and sometimes even write poetry This question is easy to answer if we change the word poetry to songs.
I sing when I feel good. When I sing my favourite songs, I feel much better. Sometimes when I am listening to music and the song words, I feel that they are written for me. A good song always makes me feel something. There are songs that I sing in my head between classes and songs that I want to sing when the school is over. They help me spend the day.
They are like bright and warm colours in the middle of greys and shades. I like songs about love and friendship. My feelings are more special when I sing my favourite songs in English.
I also like reading. I used to avoid (避免) poetry until an e-pal told me I should recite poems and not look up the meaning of the words. Poetry uses many difficult words and idioms (习语), but the best thing is to just forget about them. At first I felt quite strange. Now I always close the door and read aloud. Reading aloud gives you a strange feeling, but when you have some practice and fall into the rhythm (韵律), the rhyme (押韵) and the sounds of the words, it is really a special experience (体验).
I began with small poems, but now I think I like long poems best. I have different feelings with different poems. When I have had a bad day at school, I read Keats and forget everything. When I am sad, I read Wordsworth by the light of a candle. When the poem is finished, I close the book and my sadness is gone.
21.The writer likes singing songs ________.
A.in class
B.after school
C.by the light of a candle
D.in the street

23.The writer ________ in the past.

D.didn’t like poems
24.When “I” am sad, “I” read ________.

B.poems written by Wordsworth
C.poems in English
D.American poems
25.The title of the passage is “________”.
A.I Like Songs
B.I Like Poems
C.I Like Songs and Poems

Chinese children are spending more time reading digital(数字的) books as young parents are increasingly open to the idea, research shows.
The amount(数量) of time children under nine spend reading e-books every day increased by almost 20 percent to 24.3 minutes, according to a study by an e-book company.
A three-year study of 6,030 parents found that almost 70 percent said they agreed to let their children use mobile phones and iPads. And 25 percent of those born in the 1990s or later said they let their children spend more than 40 minutes a day on mobile devices(设备).
Parents in developed cities are more likely to let their children use mobile devices. “Digital reading is an important skill for children to learn in this age of information explosion(爆炸),” said Wang Jing. “Children should have the basic ability to read and understand digital text.”
However, not all parents want their children to read digitally. “I’m afraid that e-books will have a bad influence on my son’s attention to study,” said Xie Wenfeng, the mother of a seven-year-old boy in Shanghai. She said she believed print books are better for eyes and do not influence sleep.

An elephant and a crocodile were once standing beside the river. They were disputing which was the better animal.
“Look at my strength,”said the elephant. “I can pull up a tree, roots and everything with my trunk.” “Ah! But your skin is not so thick as mine,”replied the crocodile. “No knife or tooth can cut through it.” Just as they were coming to blows, a lion happened to pass. “My dear friends!”said the king of all animals, going up to them. “Let me know the cause of your disagreement.” “Will you kindly tell us which is the better animal ” cried both at once.
“Certainly,” said the lion, pointing across the river. “Do you see the soldier’s metal hat on that wall ”
“Yes!” replied the beasts. “Well, then,”continued the lion, “go and get it, and bring it to me, and then I shall be able to decide between you.”
Upon hearing this, off they started. The crocodile, being used to the water, reached the opposite side of the river first, and was soon standing beside the wall. Here he waited till the elephant came up. The elephant, seeing that the crocodile had no way of reaching their goal, raised his long trunk, and took down the hat quite easily.
They then made their way together back again across the river. The elephant was trying to keep up with the fast-moving crocodile in the water and became careless. When he was forced to turn sharply to avoid a floating tree branch, the elephant dropped the hat, and it fell into the river. When they were far out at sea, a terrible storm broke their ship. Everyone fell into the sea, and the monkey was going to die. Suddenly a dolphin appeared and picked him up.
They soon reached an island and the monkey came down from the dolphin’s back. The dolphin asked the monkey, “Do you know this place ” The monkey replied, “Yes, I do. The king on the island is my father, so you must treat me very well.”
“That’s a lie,” the dolphin thought, because he knew no one lived on the island. The dolphin said, “Well, well, so you are a prince (王子)! Now you can be a king!” The monkey asked, “How can I be a king ”
