Dear Mike,
I am writing to ask you to lend me a hand. This December, I am going to Canada
for further education for half a year. I wonder if you could help me find a proper flat
and a roommate.
As for the flat, I would really like to rent one with a kitchen, since I am not quite
used to Western food and I love cooking. Internet access is a must. As you know,
some assignments will require students to search for information on the Internet.I
would prefer a roommate who is friendly and respects others’ privacy. If he/she is
easy-going, it would be much nicer.
I am extremely grateful for all your help. Looking forward to your early reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
Paragraph 1:
The young woman went directly to her, holding the flowers tightly. Across the
porch railing went the flowers, onto the lap of the old woman. She lifted her head
slowly, eyes wide with confusion. The young woman bent down, holding her hands
gently and said, "Happy Mother's Day! They are flowers from a daughter. "The old
lady's eyes narrowed in delight, her face lit up with a smile. The two women chatted
like old friends for a while and then the young woman ran back to her family.
Paragraph 2:
“Mom, who was that lady "the kids asked as the car pulled away. “I don't
know."“But why did you give all your favourite flowers to her " the kids continued to
ask."It's Mother's Day today, but she seemed alone. After all, who wouldn't be cheered
up by flowers ”the mother explained patiently, holding the kids tightly in her arms. "I
have all of you, and I still have my mother even if she is far away. That woman needs
those flowers more than I do." The kids seemed to have understood the true meaning
of lilacs, the rich fragrance of which would always permeate (弥漫) around them.

根据第一段中“This year, it is experimenting with Pay What You
Decide (PWYD) That is, you can decide to pay what you want to or can afford.”
故选 A。
根据 Science in the Field活动中"This storytelling night features a
scientist sharing his favourite memories of gathering first-hand data on various field
trips.”和“Join Mark Samuels to find out more in this fun-filled workshop."
Walk on the Wild Side活动中"Join storyteller Sarah Law to
hear science stories about animals.",Introduction to Waves 活动中“Subjects range

from sound waves...on the ocean.".Science in the Field 活动中“This storytelling
night features a scientist...on various field trips.”及 Festival Dinner活动中“Whether
you want... join us to mark the first science festival in London.”

BBAA
24.B 根据第一段第三句“He learned a lot about gardening from his father... the only
kind my grandpa grows.”
再结合第二段第一句“Planting these tomatoes...in the garden together.”
根据题干关键信息“author's grandpa and dad think about
根据题干关键信息“the author going to do”可将解题线索
And as a mom and a role model for my kids.I
plan to teach them this valuable tradition.”

根据文章第一段和第二段的“This year has seen... speed and
affordability.”

根据第一段中的“It is not just ... that are threatened by a warmer
climate, but also culture and traditions around the world ... how climate change is
gradually destroying local knowledge and cultural heritage.”
risk losing the memory of native people’s ways of life ... the loss is seen as a potential
future problem ...”
故选 A。
根据第四段中的“The study shows a clear connection between
loss of native cultural heritage and changes in the natural environment.”
根据第五段中的“Loss of traditions and cultural heritage can
make it more difficult to deal with climate change, and weaken social togetherness ...
It also raises the question …”
通读全文,尤其是首段中的“It is not just ... that are threatened
by a warmer climate, but also culture and traditions around the world … how climate
change is gradually destroying local knowledge and cultural heritage.”

36.A 上文引入了“citizen science”这个概念;下文“It's scientific research done.in
whole or in part by non-professional(非专业的)scientists in public.(它是全部或
37.C 下文 “For researchers, citizen science can greatly expand the area of a study
without making it costly(.
C项中的 these people 指的是上
段尾句中的“teachers.students, etc.”。
38.E 上文“Many volunteers join in citizen science because they are interested in the
environment."
39. G根据上文“As to where citizen science takes place...to do field research.”

40.F 根据下文“If they agree with your request, you can offer your help as a citizen
scientist.”
下文中的 your request 指的是 F 项中的 if you can help with one of its
projects。

She had to see them use oxygen cylinders at home.”
43.C 根据下文 a newly enrolled firefighter、carry out awareness campaigns、talk
about the dangers、encourages the public Agustya
45.A 根据空白处后的 “...but the effect is extraordinary ....
extraordinary(显著的)为转折关系,故 simple符合语境。
47.C 根据上文中的 caused by the haze、talk about the dangers of forest fires 可知,
48.A 根据上文可知 Agustya 是一名消防员,再结合下文中的 Back at camp、their
teammates out in the field、their faces looked more 54 than usual 可推断,Agustya
49.B 根据空白处后的“...causing the underground fire back up to the 50 , where it
quickly started getting more destructive.” pick up
50.A 根据空白处前的 the underground fire 以及空白处后的"... where it quickly
started getting more destructive."
Agustya and her other colleagues were worried for the 52
of their teammates out in the field.”
52.C 根据下文中的“Fortunately they53_ it back safely...”

56.which 57.specifically 58.establishment 59.and 60.Holding
61.of 62.performed 63.individuals 64.were appointed 65.to host

As a child, gardening was something my grandpa and his father could do
together. He explained,“ Some kids like to play football with their dads, while I
thought it was more valuable to garden. " He learned a lot about gardening from his
father, including the best variety of tomato— the Porter tomato, which was the only
kind my great- grandfather grew, and is now the only kind my grandpa grows.
Planting these tomatoes always reminds him of his dad and good memories in
the garden together. In the garden that he has spent years perfecting, my grandpa
grows his favorite vegetables both to consume and to share. Everything in the garden
is grown organically. In his eyes, the value of gardening can be found in the physical
exercise, the relaxation and the opportunity to share.
While my dad didn't quite follow the tradition of enjoying gardening with his dad
when he was a child, he rekindled the flame a little later in life. When my little sister
Elizabeth and I were growing up, he realized that he wanted us to know where real
food comes from and that growing it was something we were capable of doing. In
addition to this important life lesson, my dad explained, "There is something peaceful
and relaxing about working in the dirt and caring for a plant. It is rewarding to grow
something so healthy and wholesome."
Gardening with my father is something that I enjoy doing. Although I am not
always fond of the work and find it sad when plants die, I have fun when gardening
and enjoy watching plants grow as the fruits of my labor. And as a mom and a role
model for my kids, I plan to teach them this valuable tradition. It's something
everyone should know, and it brings a sense of joy.

This month, the Internet was flooded with wonderful digital art portraits, thanks
to the work of the latest artificial intelligence assisted application to go viral: Lensa.
Users uploaded their photographs to the App and then—for a small fee—it used AI to
transform their profile pictures into, say, a magical warrior princess version of
themselves, in no time at all.
This year has seen a breakthrough for AI-driven image generators, which are
now better than ever in quality, speed and affordability. If that sounds great to you,you
might not be one of the millions of humans whose livelihoods depend on being able to
exchange those skills for money.
Some artists predicted that a computer would recreate the aura of a masterpiece
by Leonardo da Vinci in the near future. As long as there are enough data for the AI to
train itself, it can copy numerous masterpieces just in several minutes. It seems
unavoidable that a large number of artists would lose their jobs.
"I see it less as a threat and more of an opportunity,” the UK-based illustrator
Michelle Thompson said, adding,“Like everything else, there will always be artists
who can use the tools better.”
These tools are only as good as the data sets they are trained on. Human
imagination, on the other hand, has no limit. For Dryhurst, an artist from Germany, AI
models "could attempt to make a pale version of something we did years ago", but
that“doesn't account for what we might do next".
The kind of artificial intelligence we might imagine replacing artists—an entirely
autonomous creative robot-does not yet exist, but it is coming. And as AI becomes
more universal, artists, illustrators and designers will ultimately be set apart not by if,
but by how, they use the technology.
28. Why does the author mention Lensa in Paragraph 1
A. To recommend the new App. B. To inform the latest news.
C.To lead in the AI topic. D. To introduce its new function.
29. What is Michelle Thompson's attitude towards AI
A.Concerned. B. Favorable. C. Unclear. D.Critical.
30. What might be a weakness of AI in creating art works
A.Accuracy. B. Diversity. C. Creativity. D.Efficiency.
31. Which can be the best title for the text
A. Is AI coming into our daily life
B. Can AI copy masterpieces of great artists
C.Shall we welcome newAI technology
D. Will AI replace artists in the future
D
It is not just the environment and the economy that are threatened by a warmer
climate, but also culture and traditions around the world. Researchers at Lund
University in Sweden have mapped what little is known about how climate change is
gradually destroying local knowledge and cultural heritage.

{#{QQABKQYEggAgAIAAAQhCUwEICkOQkAGACagORAAIMAIACANABCA=}#}
“We risk losing the memory of native people’s ways of life without this type of
documentation,” says Guy Jackson at Lund University, one of the authors of a
literature study. One conclusion of the study is that cultural heritage is primarily seen
as something of material value, such as a historic building, and the loss is seen as a
potential future problem, even though there is evidence that it is already happening.
Focusing on material losses means that important traditions and knowledge
systems are overlooked. “There are also many non-material losses that are valuable
for both individual identity and group identity,” says Guy Jackson.
The study shows a clear connection between loss of native cultural heritage and
changes in the natural environment. For example, songs and working methods change
when groups lose traditions linked to a physical location. One scientific article points
out that identity is closely linked to the environment, “Inuit people (因纽特人 ) in
Canada are people of sea ice. If there is no more sea ice, how can they be people of
sea ice ”
Loss of traditions and cultural heritage can make it more difficult to deal with
climate change, and weaken social togetherness, as people lose touch with traditional
ways of life. It also raises the question whether we can expect native people to protect
and preserve rainforests and other ecosystems.
The researchers hope that the literature study can lead to more targeted research.
They want to see a larger focus on how to handle, minimize and tackle future losses.
“Science should contribute by developing practical solutions and strategies that help
with adaptation to the losses that have already happened,” Guy Jackson concludes.
32. What can we learn from the first two paragraphs
A. Climate change causes cultural loss.
B. The economy affects the environment.
C. Cultural loss is a current problem.
D. The native people are being forgotten.
33. What does the study show about the loss of native cultural heritage
A. It is seriously overestimated by scientists.
B. It has brought great damage to Canadians.
C. It has transformed global working methods.
D. It is closely related to environmental changes.
34. What is paragraph 5 mainly about concerning the loss of traditions and cultural
heritage
A. Its natural origins. B. Its negative results.
C. Its potential reasons. D. Its effective solutions.
35. What is the main idea of the text
A. The unknown threats to the local knowledge.
B. The practical solutions to some cultural issues.
C. The climate change’s effect on culture and traditions.
D. The various losses of important culture and traditions.

When you read articles or watch TV, you may meet with the words.“citizen
science” every now and then. 36 It's scientific research done, in whole or in part,
by non-professional (非专业的 ) scientists in public. They can include teachers,
students, etc. and act as volunteers.
37 For researchers, citizen science can greatly expand the area of a study
5
{#{QQABKQYEggAgAIAAAQhCUwEICkOQkAGACagORAAIMAIACANABCA=}#}
without making it costly. For example, a bird survey involving volunteers can cover
North America in a few weeks and cost a small amount of money. However, paying
scientists to conduct the same survey would be very expensive, and it would make the
study harder.
For volunteers, citizen science can increase their knowledge of science. Besides,
it can be fun and Sometimes quite interesting. Many volunteers join in citizen science
because they are interested in the environment. 38
As to where citizen science takes place, it depends on different research
programs. Some will require people to go to a challenging place in the wild to do field
research. 39 Many universities, for example, have certain programs which invite
local gardeners to study their plants and offer scientists information on their plants
from their gardens.
If you want to take part in a citizen science project, you should start by being
clear about what topic you like. 40 If they agree with your request, you can offer
your help as a citizen scientist.
A.This term is also known as "crowd science".
B.Some people may hate taking part in citizen science.
C.Making these people do research has great advantages.
D.For instance, volunteers can carry out their research in their gardens.
E.And they'd like a chance to communicate with real scientists in the field.
F.Then call a certain organization and ask if you can help with one of its projects.
G.But some research programs can save people the trouble of traveling a long way to
work.

The family had just moved to Rhode Island, and the young woman was feeling a
little sad on that Sunday in May. After all, it was Mother's Day—and 800 miles
separated her from her parents in Ohio.
She had called her mother that morning to wish her a happy Mother's Day, and
her mother had mentioned how colorful the yard was now that spring had arrived. As
they talked, the young woman could almost smell the fragrance(香味)of purple lilacs
(紫丁香) hanging on the big bush outside her parents' back door. Later, when she
mentioned to her husband how she missed those lilacs, he popped up from his chair.
“I know where we can find all you want," he said.
So off they went, driving down the country roads of northern Rhode Island on
the kind of day only mid-May can produce: warm sunshine, unclouded blue skies and
vibrant(充满生机的) newness of the green growing all around.
Before they got halfway up the hill, the fragrance of the lilacs drifted down to
them, and the kids started running. Soon, the mother began running, too, until she
reached the top. With a smile, the young woman rushed up to the nearest bush and
buried her face in the flowers, drinking in the fragrance and the memories it brought
back. She carefully chose a sprig (小枝) here, another one there. Finally, though, they
returned to their car for the trip home. While the kids chattered and the man drove, the
woman sat smiling, surrounded by her flowers, a faraway look in her eyes.
When they were three miles from home, she suddenly shouted to her husband,
"Stop the car. Stop right here!" The man slammed on the brakes (刹车 ). Before he
could ask her why she wanted to stop, the woman was out of the car and was hurrying
up a nearby grassy slope (斜坡) with the lilacs still in her arms.
At the top of the hill was a nursing home and, because it was such a beautiful
spring day, the patients were outdoors strolling (散步) with relatives or sitting on the
porch. Among them was an elderly lady, sitting in her wheelchair alone, head bowed,
her back to most of the others.
