Not only the children but also the elderly like to take a walk there. Sometimes, there is a bench or a fountain (喷泉). There are also some trees in it. Not only their leaves but also their branches are beautiful.

“not only...but also...”意为“不仅……而且”,用于连接两个并列成分,着重强调后者,also通常可以省略。
其主要考点如下:
●连接并列成分:连接两个并列的主语、谓语、宾语、表语等。
●就近原则:谓语动词的单复数形式要与靠近它的主语保持一致。
●连接两个句子且位于句首时,前一个句子要用部分倒装,即把谓语的一部分(如助动词、情态动词等)提到主语前面。
