考点 satisfy的用法

Ben had a big puzzle with 100 pieces. He worked on it every day after school. Each piece he added made him smile. When he put in the last piece, he felt very happy. (1)satisfy作动词,意为“使满意;使满足”。
·Nothing seemed to satisfy their hunger for truth.似乎没有什么能满足他们对真理的渴求。
·Nothing satisfies him─ he’s always complaining.什么都难如他的意——他老在抱怨。
(2)satisfied作形容词,意为“满意的;满足的”。
·Many people were not satisfied with the pace of change.许多人都不满意变化的速度。
·She’s never satisfied with what she has got.她对自己所得到的从不感到满足。
(3)satisfying作形容词,意为“令人满意的;令人满足的”。
·A good book can be satisfying, can improve your knowledge and can teach you a lot.一本好书可以是令人满意的,可以增长知识,还可以教会你许多。
(4)satisfaction作名词,意为“满意;满足”。
·I doubt I’ll ever get rich, but I get job satisfaction.我不能肯定我将来会发财,但我获得了工作满足感。
to one’s satisfaction意为“令某人满意的是”。
Much to my satisfaction, my boss agreed to my suggestion.令我非常满意的是,我的老板同意了我的建议。

(1)rather than意为“而不是……;(宁可……)也不愿……”,后接名词、代词、形容词、动词、动名词等。
·The girl enjoys singing rather than dancing.这个女孩喜欢唱歌而不喜欢跳舞。
·These clothes are comfortable rather than pretty.这些衣服舒适但不美观。

(2)prefer to do...rather than...=would rather do...than do...意为“宁愿做某事而不愿做某事”。
