I Teaching aims
1. Students will understand what Mike and Amy usually draw in their life through step-by-step reading.
2. Students will learn some new words, such as “colored, sky, place and drawing” .
3. Students will be able to orally express their ideas about hobbies and keep them in routine life.
4. Students could recognize the differences between Mike and Amy and realize everyone is unique in the world.

III Teaching procedures
Step 1 Warming-up
Greet students about “How’s everything going recently ” .
Share a movie to introduce the personal hobby: The Good Dinosaur. It is a cartoon movie which describes two characters ’ sharing happiness and hardships and reflects family ties. Remind students to be brave and strong to face life difficulties. Then lead in the topic: His hobby is drawing.
Step 2 Pre-reading
Set a situation: The school is going to hold a painting exhibition on Friday afternoon. Students can hand in their paintings to present on display. Ask students what they prefer to draw for the future activity. Invite students to share their ideas after their interaction and communication.
Guide students to predict what the main characters: Mike and Amy in the passage would draw in their routine life.
Step 3 While-reading
1. First reading
Guide students to check their guessing and get characters ’ relationship in the passage: Amy is Mike’s cousin.
2. Second reading
Ask students to read the passage again to find the answers to questions in the schoolbook. Tell students to guess unfamiliar words meaning according to the context. While checking the answer, explain the words “colored, sky, place and drawing” through vivid pictures and certain actions. Present the targeted words and passage structure on the blackboard. Guide students to recognize the differences between Mike and Amy and realize everyone is unique in the world. Share the proverb with students “There are no two pieces of leaves alike.”.
3. Imitation
Ask students to repeat after the tape to recognize the tone and intonation of different characters.
Step 4 Post-reading
Guide students to make a table including name, hobby and reason to do a survey about their hobbies in groups. They will have 6 minutes to prepare their presentation. Following their preparation, invite students to share their hobbies and remind them to stick to them.
Step 5 Summary & Homework
Summary: Invite students to retell the key information according to the blackboard to look back on the reading material.
Homework: Ask students to make a specific schedule for their hobbies to share next class about how to keep it.
