Dear Alice,
I live alone in a large apartment building in the city and usually this would prevent others from knowing me. However, a new couple just moved into the unit next door and they won’t leave me alone. Tm an introvert (内向的人)and I really prefer to keep to myself. I’m happy to nod politely and say a quick “hello” to other people that I see in the lobby or the elevator, but I really don’t feel the need to get into long conversations every time I step out of my door. My new neighbors feel differently. They’re always trying to start a conversation with me and invite me over. Tm just not really interested in making new friends. What should I do?
Sincerely,
Anna
Dear Anna,
I, myself, have some introverted tendencies (倾向),so I can completely understand that you just want to go about your day without having to make long chats in the hall whenever you are unlucky enough to run into this couple. But I don’t think it’s right. Actually, I’m trying my best to make a change now. I want to become more outgoing.
Everyone needs friends. But it’s not easy for an introverted person to make friends. Since the couple often tries to talk to you, it might be a good opportunity for you to make friends with them. And through them, you can know other neighbors. If you hate that, just think about a bad situation in which you need some help while nobody comes to you. You don’t want that, right?
So next time the couple tries to talk to you, stop and smile at them and try to start a conversation. You may end up liking them.
Love,
Alice
5. In Anna’s opinion, living in a large apartment building in the city_______.
A. isn’t right for her
B. allows her to stay alone
C. makes her too introverted
D. allows her to make friends
6. How does the new couple trouble Anna?
A. Making noise next door.
B. Usually inviting her to eat out.
C. Introducing her to other neighbors.
D. Trying to have long chats with her.
7. What does Alice probably consider wrong?
A. Trying to change others.
B. Saying hello to strange people.
C. Trying to stay away from others.
D. Having long chats with new neighbors.
8. In Alice’s opinion, Anna should _______.
A. help her new neighbors
B. change her attitude to an introvert
C. invite new neighbors to her home
D. make more friends in the building

The past years have proven that we need to prepare for the worst earthquakes to come. So an earthquake emergency (紧急)kit should be something we should have. Some people say that they do not have time and money to prepare emergency kits for earthquakes. Well, that may not be a problem any more because you can buy your own earthquake emergency kit online. With a click of a button, you can order it online and have it within a few days. It saves time, money and effort.
Some people don’t think an earthquake emergency kit is necessary. This is totally wrong and here are the reasons.
According to researchers, on average around 275 earthquakes are felt every day around the world. Half of these are large enough to ask that families should own earthquake emergency kits. There is a 30% higher chance that you will survive an earthquake if you have an earthquake emergency kit.
Some people think they can go to a shelter after an earthquake. However, instead of depending on your shelter, an earthquake emergency kit is your best choice when an earthquake happens. There may be too many people in the shelter. You may not find food or water. And you may not be able to get medicine. If you have an earthquake emergency kit, you will have the things you need.
Some people don’t think they need an earthquake emergency kit because they don’t live near the fault line. But whether you are near the fault line or far from it, owning one for your household is still a must. Studies show that some states that are outside the fault line have earthquake magnitudes of above 4.5. This only means that you never know how earthquakes hit until it hits you by surprise.
So if you don’t have an earthquake emergency kit at home, make one yourself or purchase one online.
9. The first reason to get an earthquake emergency kit is that _______.
A. it is good for your whole family
B. you don’t need to go to a shelter
C. it increases your chances of survival
D. you can provide yourself with what you need
10. What’s the writer’s attitude toward going to a shelter instead of preparing an earthquake emergency kit?
A. Disagreed.
B. Surprised.
C. Supportive.
D. Interested.
11. We learn that if someone lives near the fault line_______ .
A. he often makes mistakes
B. he hardly experiences small earthquakes
C. he’s very likely to experience an earthquake
D. he doesn’t need an earthquake emergency kit
12. What does the underlined word “purchase” in the last paragraph mean?
A. Buy. B. Show.
C. Find. D. Make.
D
NASA Astronaut Scott Kelly is traveling to the International Space Station for the second time. He says that this time in space can be a greater challenge than his first visit.
Most visits to the space station last just four to six months. Scott Kelly will be there for a year. Researchers hope this longer stay will teach them more about how the human body reacts to long periods of spaceflight.
Astronaut Kelly's mental and physical health will be closely watched during his ISS visit and after his return. He also presents NASA with a unique study situation. Researchers will be able to compare medical information from Astronaut Kelly with that from his twin brother, former astronaut Mark Kelly, who is volunteering as a citizen.
One main focus will be on the bacteria (细菌) that live in the human digestive system. Comparisons could be interesting because the twins will be eating very different food in the year ahead.
It has been almost twenty years since a team of Russians spent a year in space. The Russians themselves are very interested in what is going to be learnt from this mission (任务),because it is a chance to revisit and further the studies they did earlier.
The collection of tests and the ability to watch Scott Kelly’s condition every day could produce unexpected results. They were surprised several years- ago by the finding that certain astronauts have changes in their vision during a long spaceflight about halfway through a six-month mission.
Another area of interest is the effect of radiation (福射)on the human body. This would be even more serious for astronauts on a three-year mission to Mars. NASA scientists think research collected from Scott Kelly’s one-year space trip will be important to pave the way for a future manned flight to Mars.
13. We can learn from the passage that Scott Kelly _______.
A. will go to space for the first time
B. will be in space for four to six months
C. will react strongly to his long period of space-flight
D. thinks it will be more challenging for him to be in space again
14. What unique study situation does Scott Kelly present NASA?
A. He will stay in space for a whole year.
B. He volunteers to work for NASA after his retirement.
C. His twin brother will also be studied at the same time.
D. He will be studied both when he is in space and after he returns.
15. Why are the Russians also interested in Scott’s flight?
A. Because they want to know if it will be successful.
B. Because they once had some astronauts stay in space for one year.
C. Because they are afraid the Americans will beat them in space research.
D. Because their earlier studies may be further developed through the chance.

No other word carries as much power and importance in our daily lives as the word “no”. Indeed, one may claim that many quarrels and fights start when someone says no. “No” is a great word. If said at the right time and place, it becomes the embodiment (化身)of choosing to follow an independent path to the one that other people carved for you. 16 The way you say “no” may be more important than the word itself. In this article, I will tell 3 ways in which you can say no in an educated and firm manner.
The Direct No
17 It’s pretty direct and you don ‘ t need to offer any apologies or make further promises to go with it.
“Would you like a cup of coffee?”
“No, thank you.”
The Empathetic (同感的)No
There is pure art in this technique. 18 Then you make a firm but very brief refusal at the end. “I know you want me to have lunch with you and the children, Jill, but I can’t do it today.
“It must have been really hard for you to organize that party, but I can’t come.”
The Reasoned No
This one is all about being brief and honest. You simply refuse the request. 19
“I can't go out with you because I have to wake up really early tomorrow. ”
“Thank you, but I am not really a big fan of Jurassic World.”
20 The old saying goes “One no a day keeps the doctor away”. Learn how to say no, politely but firmly!
A. The first way is to simply say no.
B. Yet we have every reason to say no.
C. However, it is not a word to use in wrong ways.
D. Then you offer a reason why you are refusing it.
E. It involves appreciation of the other person’s feelings.
F. This technique allows people to say no to a specific request.
G. Experts recommend that you say no at least nine times a day.

As they say, you can laugh about anything, but not with everyone. Humor is a very subjective (主观的)concept, and what might be funny for some might 41 (consider) hateful by others. And of course, in a country several of the jokes often make fun of other cultures. Who, for example, does not love to make fun of the 42 (France)? The British 43 (certain) do.
One of the most famous types of humor is of course the British one, which is well-known all over the world, even though most of us have trouble 44 (get) it. British irony (讽刺)is just priceless! So what about American humor — is it similar? Well, they may speak the same language, 45 the British and the Americans just don’t share the same values when it comes to 46 (laugh). Humor is just not transferable from one country to 47 .
And what exactly is considered 48 (fun) in Russia, or in Poland? The type of jokes may vary a lot according to the country you are in. Humor is actually 49 deep cultural side of a country, and you might want to get 50 (prepare) for what you might expect during your next visit to a foreign country.

书面表达 (One possible version)
Recently I’ve had a survey on the ways people exercise after work in our community. The results are as follows:
According to the table above, firstly, we can find about 50% of people, mainly women, choose square dance as their favorite way of exercising since they hold the view that dancing to music can not only relax themselves but help shape their figures. Secondly, the young people who play ball games and look more energetic make up almost 20% of the people. Thirdly, another 20% of the people are the old who are fond of walking around on the playground. The rest 10% of the people prefer their own way of exercise.
Obviously, different as their approaches to taking exercise are, people’s concern on health is increasing over time. Isn’t it a good phenomenon that people are living healthier than ever?
