四、Teaching Procedure(教学过程)
Step 1: Lead-in (5 minutes)
1. Show some pictures of different places (restroom, museum, restaurant, park, subway, mall) on the PPT and ask students to guess what they are.
2. Ask students to share their experiences in these places and lead to the topic of this lesson: qualities of different places.
Step 2: Presentation (10 minutes)
1. Present the adjectives on the blackboard: interesting, fascinating, inexpensive, quiet, uncrowded, big, beautiful, convenient, safe, clean.
2. Explain the meanings of these adjectives with examples and gestures.
3. Ask students to work in pairs and discuss which adjectives are suitable for each place in 1a. Encourage them to write the adjectives beside the corresponding places and put the most important ones in the front.
4. Invite several pairs to share their answers and have a brief discussion.
Step 3: Practice (10 minutes)
1. Ask students to look at the words in 1a and work in pairs to have conversations about places in their city. For example:
A: The park in our city is very beautiful.
B: Yes, and it's also safe and clean.
2. Walk around the classroom to monitor and offer help if necessary.
3. Invite some pairs to present their conversations to the class.
Step 4: Listening (10 minutes)
1. Before listening, ask students to read the sentences in 1c and predict the possible answers.
2. Play the recording for the first time. Students listen and try to complete the sentences.
3. Play the recording for the second time. Students check their answers and correct mistakes if any.
4. Check the answers together and analyze the listening materials to help students understand better.
Step 5: Role-play (10 minutes)
1. Divide the class into groups of two. One student acts as the clerk and the other acts as the tourist.
2. Ask students to refer to the example conversations in 1e and create their own dialogues based on the given situations.
3. Encourage students to use the adjectives and sentence patterns learned in this lesson.
4. Invite some groups to perform their role-plays in front of the class. The others listen carefully and give comments.
Step 6: Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
1. Summarize the key points of this lesson, including the adjectives and sentence patterns.
2. Assign homework: Ask students to write a short passage about their favorite place in the city and describe it using the adjectives and sentence patterns learned today.
