Jenny’s parents must choose between leaving Jenny alone at home and finding other people to take care of her while they are not at home.Like most parents,they often worry when Jenny is at home alone,but there are things they can do to ease(减轻)their worries and help protect Jenny when they’re not around.
Stay in touch
Call Jenny throughout the day to ask how she is and what she is doing.Ask her to make sure to turn off the lights,lock the door,and not to leave the windows open before leaving home.When she gets home,call them again to let them know that everything is OK.
Keep Jenny connected
Put up important telephone numbers on the wall,including the parents’,the doctor’s,and a neighbor’s or a relative’s who can help Jenny immediately if she needs help.
Practise what to do
Teach Jenny how to call 911 and when to do it.Ask questions like“If someone is trying to get in the house,what should you do?”“If you get hurt,what should you do?”and“If you want to play at a friend’s house,what should you do?”
Set strict rules
Make clear what Jenny is allowed to do and what she isn’t allowed to do.She can’t use the Internet when she is at home alone.No friends are allowed to visit the house when she is at home alone.

(2)manage 是动词,“管理;支配”。如:
You should manage your time correctly.你应当正确地支配时间。
manage用作动词,还有“做成,(尤指)设法完成”之意。常用搭配:manage to do sth.设法做成某事。
2.Turn off the TV! 把电视关掉!(教材第28页)
turn off “关掉;关闭(设备)”,常指“关掉(某种电器);切断电源等”,是“动词+副词”结构,名词作宾语,置于其后或中间;代词作宾语,置于turn和off中间。

worry about与be worried about同义,其中worry 是动词。

hand in“提交;上交”,反义短语是hand out“分发”。如:

hand in 与hand out 都是“动词+副词”结构;代词作宾语时,要放在hand与in /out中间。
