On 8th March,a British man named Charles Eugster set a world record at the age of 95.He competed in the indoor 200m race at the British Masters Athletics Meet in London.He crossed the finishing line after 55.38 seconds and he broke the world record(57.88 seconds)set by American Orville Rogers in 2013.
Later,Eugster shared the good news on Facebook and thanked those who helped him to achieve it.
“I have just broken the M95 World Record in the indoor 200m race!”he wrote.“55.38 seconds—I’m over the moon…Thank everyone for helping me achieve this.”
After retiring(退休)as a dentist,Eugster took up exercise and played all kinds of sports.He began training as a runner when he was 80 years old.When he was 87,he joined a bodybuilding club.In 2013,he took up competitive track and field(田径).
He said,“I’ve always competed—competition is good for the body and the mind.Life is about challenges(挑战),and you must always try something new.I want to show that I can learn a completely new sport and that I can be competitive in it.”
On the website,Eugster offered some advice on being successful.“Successful aging needs work,diet and exercise.You can rebuild your bodies and start a new life at any age.”

(2) beat, defeat,win和lose
beat & defeat 动词,指在战斗或竞赛中“打败;击败”,后接竞争对手,beat与defeat可以互换。
win 动词,“战胜、赢得”,其宾语通常是比赛、战争、奖品,竞争对手不能作其宾语。
lose 动词,“输”,用法是lose the match / game或lose to sb.in the match。
