Scientists believe there are four basic stages(基本阶段) that people pass through when they enter and live in a new culture. In fact, this process(过程) is the way your brain acts to the strange new things you meet when you move from one culture to another.
Culture shock begins with the honeymoon stage. This is the period of time (一段时间) when you first arrive in a country where everything is strange and exciting. You are excited to be in the new environment, seeing new sights, hearing new sounds, and eating new kinds of food.
Unluckily, the second stage of culture shock can be difficult. After you have settled down(安频下来), working, studying, going shopping, or living with a host family, you can become very tired and begin to miss your homeland and your family. Many people choose to return to their own country or spend all their time with people from their own culture.
The third stage is the period of time when you begin to realize that things are not so awful in the host culture. You realize that you are becoming stronger by learning to take care of yourself in the new place. Things are still difficult, but you are now a survivor(幸存者)!
The fourth stage is the period of time when you feel quite comfortable in your new environment. You may still have problems with the language, but you know you are strong enough to deal with them. If you meet someone from your country who has just arrived, you can be the expert on life in the new culture and help them to deal with their culture shock.

Devon always shouted at others while playing football . The other players didn't like him. But Devon didn't know the reason.
Luis thought that the only thing he could do was tell Devon why he wasn't liked. Luckily, Devon promised to try hard to stop shouting and the other players agreed to give him a try.
During the break, they were playing just like always. Things seemed to be going well. Devon kept his word and didn't shout at anyone.
A ball came to be close to Devon and he started running to go and get it. So did Justin. They reached the ball at the same time.
“I’ve got it!” Justin called out, getting the ball, Justin kicked it. Everyone could tell that he meant to pass it to Nicholas. But the kick sent the ball about five feet to the right of Nicholas. Alex on the other team got the ball. Before anyone could do something, Alex kicked the ball and it landed right in the center of the goal(球门). Luis watched Devon — he was very angry.
Just as Luis wanted to go there close enough to say something, he saw Devon close his eyes and then open them.“ That was a good kick,” he heard Devon tell Justin,“ but don't do that again.”

【范文展示】
Great changes have taken place in my life in the last three years. However, the most important change for me is not my appearance but my hobby. Reading didn’t use to capture my interest, but now, I spend two hours daily losing myself in books.
Why did I experience such a big change It was because of a discussion on the history of our country which I happened to take part in. During this discussion, a classmate asked a question. Luckily, I was able to provide a correct answer because of a passage I had read. At that moment, my classmates expressed their agreement through a thumbs-up, filling me with a sense of pride. This experience sparked a daily reading habit within me.
I am lucky that I was a part of that discussion, as it was that experience that developed my love for reading. I am really thankful for the experience.
