These days, streaming is more straightforward than ever. If you have a newer TV, all you have to do is select one of the built-in apps and sign up to start watching. You have more options with devices such as an Apple TV, Netflix or Hulu, and you don’t have to be a tech expert to operate them.
Netflix
The granddaddy of streaming built a dynasty on engaging shows with established fan bases, like Friends and Grey’ Anatomy. Then Netflix went all in on award-winning and fan-favorite originals such as House of Cards. Now it’s also the go-to for comedy specials with the likes of Jim Gaffigan and more, making it vital to stand-up fans.
Hulu
Once little more than Netflix’s replacement, Hulu is coming for top billing. Since Disney purchased the streamer in 2019, it has turned Hulu into a giant: a basic subscription includes original Hulu shows Only Murders in the Building. Go for Hulu’s Live TV and you’ll get 95-plus channels including the big networks, ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox.
Apple TV+
Apple’s is the only major service with original programming and no ads. That means no list of old shows to binge-watch, only the new cutting-edge series and films produced by Apple Studios that tend to cap best-of year-end roundups, including Ted Lasso.
Apps Prices
Netflix $6.99/month with ads
$15.49/month ad-free
Hulu $7.99/month with ads
$1799/month ad-free
$26.99/month for Live TV
Apple TV+ $9.99/month
21. What’s the total price for a quarter of ad-free Netflix and Hulu’s Live TV
A. $42.48. B. $46.47. C. $127.44. D. $169.92.
22. What is special about Apple TV+
A. It is one of the oldest streaming apps.
B. It is cheaper than the other two apps.
C. It is exclusively available on Apple devices.
D. It is a service with original ad-free programming.
23. What is the purpose of the passage
A. To promote some engaging TV shows. B. To compare features of some TV shows.
C. To list the charges of some streaming apps. D. To provide information on some streaming apps.

Harper Lee (1926—2016) was an American novelist widely known for To Kill a Mockingbird (published in 1960), which won the 1961 Pulitzer Prize and has become a classic of modern American literature. The 1962 film adaptation starring Gregory Peck won three Academy Awards.
For decades, the book was Lee’s only major work of published fiction, but it was hugely influential for generations of U.S. readers. It has sold more than 10 million copies, and is one of the most widely taught novels in the U.S. schools. In 2007 she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her contributions to literature.
Lee wanted to live a simple life and was never comfortable with the attention the novel won her, and she practically disappeared from public life after it appeared. The world, however, continued waiting for a new novel from her, and on occasion she suggested that she was working on another story.
In 2015, a book did come out. Go Set a Watchman was more of a first draft, featuring Scout, the young girl who was the main character of To Kill a Mockingbird. Go Set a Watchman tells a story of Scout as adult.
Though Lee moved to New York in 1949, she spent many years guarding her privacy (隐私) in Monroeville, which served as the clear inspiration for the setting in To Kill a Mockingbird.
In 2007, Lee suffered a stroke (中风), but recovered and later settled in Monroeville permanently to care for her sister, Alice, who died in 2014. She was said to eat breakfast every morning at the same fast-food spot, and was friendly with her neighbors. The countless Americans knew her only through her works, and they will undoubtedly miss her.

27. What can best describe Harper Lee

Human experts spend years roasting and tasting coffee from many places to learn about the beans. They might then combine (混合) a coffee bean from Africa with another one from South America to come up with a new blend (混合). But, a coffee roasting company in Helsinki, Finland is hoping that artificial intelligence, or AI, can help ease the workload.
Kaffa Roastery recently brought out its “AI-conic” blend at the Helsinki Coffee Festival. The blend is a mixture of four kinds of beans, including Fazenda Pinhal from Brazil. It is the result of a joint project by Kaffa and Elev, a local AI business.
Svante Hampf is the founder of Kaffa Roastery. He and his partners wanted to do an experiment to see what blend the computer would produce. “We basically gave descriptions of all our coffee types and their flavours to AI and instructed it to create a new exciting blend,” Hamp f said. The “AI-conic” blend combined beans from Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia and Guatemala. It is described as “a well-balanced blend of sweetness and ripe fruit”.
Hampf said he thought the combination was “somewhat weird”. He was surprised that the AI programme chose to make the blend out of four different kinds of beans. Most humans choose only two or three beans. However, after the first blind test of the new blend, Kaffa’s coffee experts agreed that the AI-assisted blend was perfect. There was no need to change.
Elev’s Antti Merilehto said “AI-conic” is an example of “how AI can introduce new viewpoint to experienced professionals”. The International Coffee Organization says that the 5.6 million people in Finland drink the most coffee per person in the world. And the roasters at Kaffa said they hope the AI project will help to bring more things to the strong coffee culture in the country.
Hamp f called it a “first step”, adding, “I think AI has plenty to offer us in the long run. We are particularly impressed of the coffee taste descriptions it created.”
28. What is the function of Paragraph 1
A. To point out a problem. B. To present a finding.

Before the Internet age, critical thinking was the most important skill of people. But in the digital age, according to Anastasia Kozyreva, a famous psychologist, a more important skill is critical ignoring..
As researchers point out, we live in an attention economy where content producers on the Internet compete for our attention. They attract us with many eye-catching stories while providing little useful information, so they can expose us to profit-generating advertisements. Therefore, we are not customers but products, and each link we click is a sale of our time and attention. To protect ourselves from this, Kozyreva advocates (提倡) for learning the skill of critical ignoring, in which readers can control their information environment to reduce exposure to raise information.
According to Kozyreva, critical ignoring includes three strategies. The first is to design our environments, which includes removing low-quality yet hard-to-resist (难以抵制的) information from around. Successful dieters need to keep unhealthy food out of their homes. Similarly, we need to set up a digital environment where attention-grabbing items are kept out of sight. Like dieting, if one tries to depend on willpower not to click eye-catching "news", he'll surely fail. So, it's better to keep them out of sight at first!
The next is to evaluate the reliability (可靠性) of information, whose purpose is to protect you from false information. It can be realized by checking the source in the mainstream, news agencies, which are trustworthy.
The last is: "never feed the trolls." Trolls are some people who spread false information online to cause harm. Do not correct them, because they do not care about whether the information is correct. Annoying others is their goal. So, never respond to their bad behaviour with our attention.
By using the above critical ignoring skills we can make the most of the Internet while avoiding falling victim to those who try to control our attention, time, and minds.
32. What can we learn about the attention economy from paragraph 2
A. It offers more information. B. It features depressing stories.
C. It saves time for Internet users. D. It seeks profits from each click.
33. Why does the author mention dieters in paragraph 3
A. To discuss the quality of information. B. To prove the benefits of healthy food.
C. To show the importance of environments. D. To explain the effectiveness of willpower.
34. What should we do to deal with Internet trolls according to the text
A. Review their intention. B. Turn a deaf ear to them..
C. Correct their behaviour. D. Send hard facts to them.
35. What is the text mainly about
A. Reasons for critical thinking in the attention economy.
B. Practising the skills of critical ignoring in the digital age.
C. Maximizing the benefits of critical ignoring on the Internet.
D. Strategies of abandoning critical thinking for Internet users.

I grew up in a small town. The primary school was a ten-minute walk from my house. When the noon bell rang, I would race breathlessly home. My mother would be standing at the top of the stairs, smiling down at me.
One lunch-time when I was in the third grade will stay with me always. I had been picked to be the princess in the school play, and for weeks my mother had helped me remember my lines so hard. But no matter how easily I acted at home, as soon as I stepped onstage, every word disappeared from my head. Finally, my teacher took me aside. She explained that she had writen a narrator’s (旁白的)part to the play, and asked me to change roles. Her words, kindly expressed, still hurt, especially when I saw my part go to another girl.
I didn’t tell my mother what had happened when I went home for lunch that day. But she sensed my pain. Instead of suggesting we practice my lines, she asked if I wanted to walk in the yard.
It was a lovely spring day and the rose vine (藤蔓)was turning green. Under the huge trees, we could see yellow dandelions(蒲公英)in the grass in bunch, as if a painter had touched our landscape with gold. I watched my mother casually bend down by one dandelion. “I think I’m going to dig up all these weeds, ” she said, “pulling it up by its roots. From now on, we’ll have only roses in this garden. ”
“But I like dandelions, ”I protested, “All flowers are beautiful—even dandelions. ”
My mother looked at me seriously. ”Yes, every flower gives pleasure in its own way, doesn’t it “She asked thoughtfully. I nodded, pleased that I had won her over. ”And that is true of people too, "she added, “Not everyone can be a princess, but there is no shame in that. ”Relieved that she had guessed my pain, I started to cry as I told her what had happened. She listened and smiled.

答案:
Dear John,
I hope this email finds you well. Knowing that you're interested in the reading share event we recently held at our school, I'm thrilled to share some details with you.
The reading share event themed“Celebrity Biography” took place on Friday, April 21st, in the school library, which is an inspiring place filled with books from all genres. The event was a vibrant mix of presentations and discussions. Each participant had chosen a celebrity biography to read and then presented a summary along with their personal reflections. Some of the biographies shared included stories of famous scientists, artists, athletes, and social activists. It was fascinating to see how these individuals' lives were shaped by their choices, perseverance, and the challenges they overcame.
In conclusion, the "Celebrity Biography" reading share event was a resounding success. Not only did I learn about the lives and achievements of people I had only heard of before, but I also gained a deeper understanding of the human spirit and its capacity for growth and change. I hope you have similar events in your school or community where you can share your love for reading and learning. Wishing you all the best and hoping to hear more from you soon.
Warm regards,
Li Hua

【答案】“But you will be a beautiful narrator, ” she said. She encouraged and comforted me as always as she did. My beloved mother, wearing a shining smile, added, “The narrator’s part is important, too. ” Thanks to her encouragement, I began to accept the narrator part was of vital significance. How time flew! Then came the performance day. At first I was still nervous, but it was at that very moment that I found a dandelion in my pocket. I knew my mom passed the flower to me, which meant to be in company with me.
After the play, I took home the dandelion. Upon seeing me and the dandelion, my mother’s eyes lit up with a mixture of delight and fulfillment. “I’ve made it! Thank you for your encouragement.” I exclaimed. We hugged each other excitedly. Then she tenderly took the dandelion from me, as if she were holding a precious treasure. At that moment, I felt loved and appreciated for whom I was. We all had our own unique beauty and worth just like the sorry-looking dandelion. It was my mother’s comfort and encouragement that shaped my perspective.
