Who invented films It’s difficult to say. Lots of people played a part in the development of the cinema. A man named Muybridge made the first moving picture in 1878.It was a film of a horse running and it was only a few seconds long. By 1895, other people had invented kinds of machines for showing moving pictures, but many of these could only be watched by one person at a time. Thomas Edison was one of the first to show
very short films to audiences(观众) of 20 or more people. His films showed
acrobats (杂技演员) and dancers performing, or everyday events like a man sneezing.
At first, films were only a few minutes long. They were black and white and silent.They.were usually documentaries about different places or news events, or comedies showing people falling over and making funny faces. Later they became longer stories, but there was still no sound. Instead, there might be a musician playing the plano in the hall while the film was shown.
Musicals were probably the most popular kind of film throughout the 1930s and 1940s.A very famous actress and singer at that time was Shirley Temple-she was only five-year-old girl but everyone loved watching her sing and dance.
The very first film to be in color and to have sound was shown in 1927. It was called The Jazz Singer.
From then on, more and more films were produced in color, and almost all films had sound.

If you have a younger brother or sister, you may remember how fast he or she grew as a baby. If not, look back at your own baby photos.During the first year of life,a baby usually grows between 18 and 25 centimeters (cm). That is quite a bit of growth, considering most babies are about 50 cm at birth. As one can imagine, growth slows down during the second year of life. Most babies grow only 10-12 cm more in their second year. This is around half of how much they grew in the first year.
After the first two years, growth becomes more regular from year to year.Between the ages of 2 and 9, most children grow about 6 cm per year. But this growth may be faster during some months. Often, these are called "growth spurts (快速成长期)". Children usually grow more in spring and summer than at other times of the year.
When children reach middle school, they start growing faster again. Most girls start this growth period before boys. It starts between the ages of 8 and 13 in girls and between the ages of 10 and 15 in boys. On average, this stage of life lasts for two years. Most girls add 18 cm to their height. In contrast(相比之下), most boys add about 20 cm to their height.

C. Children grow fastest when they are babies. D. Growth is regular for boys and girls.
