教学过程
Activity 1: Review and Retell T presents the word cloud of the vocabulary in this unit. Ss try to review them and retell the process about how artemisinin was discovered. [Purpose] The use of word cloud may make Ss’ eyes light up, which helps stimulate Ss’ motivation in this class. And the task is to introduce the target vocabulary. Activity 2: Quiz Ss write down the word that matches each definition. This is a quick test of some of the topic vocabulary. [Purpose] It aims at helping Ss reinforce the new words and accumulate topical vocabulary. Activity 3: Fill in blanks Ss need to figure out the the parts of speech of the underlined words first, and guess the meaning of them. Then they try to fill in the blanks with words that have the same root. When checking the answers, T guides to pay attention to some lexical chunk, such as stand up to, wear and tear, come to a conclusion. T guides Ss to learn a category of word-formation called derivation, briefly introducing the use of prefix and suffix. And then, Ss try to finish the filling. Later, Ss work in teams, and choose one word from each groups of words, trying to make their own sentences by using the five words. [Purpose]It aims to help Ss understand and practise the use of roots of English words with the vocabulary from the text. Activity 4: Read and fill Ss read the passage of Lu Xun first, then try to fill in the blanks with the correct forms of the works in the box. [Purpose] Ss can understand and practice the words in the specific topic-related context, further reinforcing the topical vocabulary. Activity 5: Read and Think Ss read the above passage about Lu Xun again, and try to answer the following questions. 1. What was Lu Xun’s original objective 2. What made him change his mind 3. If you were him, would you change your mind Why or why not 4. Which of his great qualities can be inferred from the passage 5. What title would you give to the passage [Purpose] This is an extended task. In this task, Ss can think deeply and critically, and explore the thematic meaning of the text, which also partly aims at moral education. Activity 6: Discussion T presents some famous people of achievement. Ss work in pairs and discuss how people can achieve success, using words and expressions they have learned in this unit. After that, T shares a video about success with Ss to end the class. [Purpose] Ss can practise using the vocabulary in this unit in a conversation, freely expressing their opinions.作业练习
