教学目标
After the class, students will be able to
1.read to know the life of the red-crowned crane.
2.learn to describe an animal’s appearance, habitats, migration and diet.
3.write a short description of an animal.

1.students should be able to get the information of the red crowned crane.
2.learn how to write a short description of an animal.
教学难点:
1.extend the related information.
2.make expansion of the words and phrases into a paragraph or passage.
教学过程
Step1: Lead-in (video watching)
The teacher provide a video of the red-crowned crane and let the students watch so as to arouse their interest.
Step2: Reading
A: Read the paragraph about the red-crowned crane and answer the questions.
a.Introduce two reading skills: skimming and scanning to help students to improve their reading ability.
b. answer the five questions related to the red crowned crane with the help of reading skills.
1.What does the red crown-ed crane look like
It has white feathers except for some black ones on its face, neck and wings. It also has bright red skin on the top of its head.
2. Where can you find it
It can be found in China, Russia, Mongolia, Japan and the Korean Peninsula.
3.Where does it migrate to
It migrates to east-central China when the weather gets cold.
4.What does it eat
It eats fish, snails and water plants.
5.What symbolic meaning does the red-crowned crane have in Chinese culture
It has a symbolic meaning of long life and good luck in Chinese culture.
Step3: Discussion
Which aspects of the red-crowned crane does the passage tell us
6 aspects: definition; appearance; habitat; migration; diet and other information
Step 4. Writing
Introduce the three levels to make a composition.
1.Word level: write the simple words and phrases related to the topic.
2.Sentence level: make simple sentences with the use of conjunction, adj, adv, addition and passive voice if possible.
3.Structure improvement: change the simple sentences into long and complex sentence with the use of non-predictive, attribute clause, adverbial clause, change the sentence order or other sentence structures.
Step5 Example of writing
Regarded as our national treasure and one of the world’s precious animals, the giant pandas, who is about 1.5 meters long and 100-180 kg in weight, is very cute, with white body and black limbs. This lovely animal mainly live in the nature reserves in Sichuan, Gansu and Shaanxi province where they mainly feed on fresh bamboos, fruits, vegetables and occasionally they may also eat bamboo rats or other meat. This rare species is the symbol of peace and was listed as en danged before but thanks to the strict measures taken by the government, the number is on the rise recently.
