Teaching Aims:
Before the end of this class, you will be able to
1.master the main idea of the passage .
2.figure out the structure of the expository text(说明文) by drawing the “cause-effect” flow chart.
3.learn the mystery of the monarch's migration ,the reason why its population is crashing and know how to take measures to protect it;
4.raise the awareness of protecting all the Wildlife in nature.

1.Students learn to collect and reorganize information through scanning and careful reading.
2.Students learn to figure out the structure of the expository text.

Teaching procedure:
Pre-reading
Starting-out(用生活中大雁南飞的场景引入到动物迁徙的话题)
T:Show a picture and ask “what can you see and what are they doing ”
S:They are wild geese(大雁).They are flying south to search for the warmer weather.
T:Yes. Every Spring,they will fly back to the north to reproduce or give birth to babies. This annual movement is called migration(迁徙).
T:What other animals migrate Look at some pictures and choose what animals migrate.
S:Choose the animals that migrate and share their answers with the class.(monarch butterfly, Siberian crane, Atlantic salmon, killer whale)
T:In fact,many fish,birds,insects and mammals migrate every year.
Prediction (培养学生的阅读预测技能)
According to the title,the top sentence or the picture,you can predict what is mainly about in the text.
S:This text will introduce the monarch's migration about the time ,the route,the reason,and the way and so on.

Good! In paragraph2, it describes they manage to travel around 4000 kilometers south and find their way to California or Mexico. However,until recently no one knew how they did this. According to the two sentences,we can infer that the mystery is how the monarch manage to travel the long distance and find their way to their destination. Now a team of scientist has found the answer to the mystery.
