教学目标
1.To predict the content of the passage from the title and picture;
2.To get the main idea and structure of the passage by skimming;
3.To retell the passage by using their own words;
4.To have the correct attitude towards different food and increase their cross-culture awareness.
教学重点:
1.To get the main idea of the passage;
2.To sort out the structure of the text through group work.
教学难点:
To help the students improve their reading skills.
教学过程
Part 1 Starting out
Activity 1 Watch the video and answer the questions.
1.What different types of food are introduced in the video
2. Have you ever tried any of the food in the video
Activity 2 Match the food to the countries on the map.
Part 2 Understanding ideas
Step 1 【Lead-in 】----Brainstorming
Q:How many different types of foreign food can you count
Step 2 【Pre-reading 】
Task 1 Circling
Circle the food mentioned in passage.
Task 2 Prediction
Look at the picture and talk about your understanding of the title.
Step 3 【Fast reading 】
Task 1 Surveying---get to know the type of writing
Look through the passage and circle the correct options.
1. The text comes from a food advertisement/a health report.
2. The photographs are used to illustrate the topic/ to catch the readers’ eyes.
3. The text is an exposition/ a narration.
Task 2 Choose the main idea of the passage.
1.How the family stays healthy by eating Chinese food.
2.What the family has done to promote Chinese food.
3.How the family cooks both Chinese and English food.
4.How the family combines food from two cultures.
Task 3 Skimming:Match the main ideas with each paragraph.
Para. 1 A. Dad still has difficulty eating certain Chinese dishes
though he loves Chinese food.
Para. 2 B. I don’t have Dad’s problem with Chinese food.
Para. 3 C. I have a British father and a Chinese mother.
Para. 4 D. I enjoy both British and Chinese food.
Para. 5 E. Mum and I enjoy English breakfast made by Dad.
Para. 6 F. I gathered all my courage to taste stinky tofu.
Task 4 The structure of the passage.
Divide the passage into four parts and match the main idea with each part.
Part 1 (para 1) A. I feel at home with food from Britain and China.
Part 2 (para 2) B. My family background
Part 3 (para 3-5) C. Thanks to my mother, my father loves hot pot, but he is still shocked at certain Chinese food.
Part 4 (para 6) D. Different opinions towards food of my family.
