教学目标
1. To know about the development of the Chinese writing system and its importance;
2. To learn to analyse the basic text structure;
3. To realize the importance of spreading Chinese culture and build up the confidence in Chinese culture.
教学重点:
1. To have an understanding of the development and important role of Chinese characters and introduce the development of Chinese characters in English;
2. To improve the ability of skimming and scanning.
教学难点:
1. The ability of analysis and logical thinking;
2. The comprehension of importance of Chinese characters to spread Chinese culture.
教学过程
Step 1: Greeting
Greet students and ask students to read the learning aims together.
设计意图:让学生对于本课所要掌握的技能及要获得的知识了然于心。
Step 2: Pre-reading :
1.Game time:
Q1: Do you know these Chinese characters
Q2: Can you recognize another “马” in the picture
Q3: Where did people write down the symbols
设计意图:通过图片导入文章话题,激发学生兴趣,为阅读做好准备。
2.Predicting the content
What can you predict from the title The development of the Chinese writing system and its importance.
设计意图:根据标题的两部分进行预测,训练学生的预测能力。
Step 3: While-reading :
1.Skim the text quickly to check the prediction.
设计意图:训练学生浏览文章快速获得大意的能力。训练学生掌握主旨大意阅读技巧。
2.Focus on “development”
① Scan the text to find the words and phrases that describe a time.
② Find out what happened to the Chinese characters at those important times.
设计意图:跳读训练学生找信息能力;思维导图训练学生对文章篇章结构的把握以及细节理解和概括能力。此外,思维导图还可以提高学生的逻辑思维能力。
③ Listen and read the text again, paying attention to the development of the Chinese writing system.
④ Encourage students to retell the development of Chinese characters.
设计意图:帮助学生更好地掌握汉字的发展史,理解时间顺序的重要性且掌握一些表时间顺序的词为写作做铺垫。
3.Focus on “importance”
① How does written Chinese connect China’s present and its past Can you find sentences in the text
设计意图:呼应标题中的题眼 “连接”(connecting)的一条暗线,说明汉字书写体系对中华文明传承数千年所起到的重要作用。通过这次阅读,学生能够理清文章脉络,为深度解读文本做好铺垫。
That writing system was of great importance in uniting the Chinese people and culture. Even today, no matter where Chinese people live or what dialect they speak, they can all still communicate in writing. (Paragraph 4)

Connect people divided by geography
People in modern times can read the classic works which were written by Chinese in ancient times. The high regard for the Chinese writing system can be seen in the development of Chinese characters as an art form, known as Chinese calligraphy, which has become an important part of Chinese culture. students are beginning to appreciate China's culture and history through this amazing

4.Show the students a video of Chinese calligraphy and ask the students: with the development of new technology, some people think there is no need to learn calligraphy. Do you agree Why?
5.Analyze the structure of the text
设计意图:通过这遍阅读,培养学生从语篇出发,掌握文章主体结构,并通过对结构的划分来判断文章体裁的能力。

设计意图:通过一系列的问题,学生已经对汉字书写体系的发展以及影响有了一定程度的了解,对文本的升华落脚在影响中华文明起着重要的作用的其他因素上,加强学生对中华文化的自豪感和认同感,增强对母语学习和中华文化的自信。

设计意图:这个活动主要是基于知识的迁移和创新,帮助学生将所学知识进行应用,强化学生的语用意识,引导学生形成正确的价值观,树立传承文明,传播文化的社会责任感。
