I.Retell the strange things before the earthquake mentioned in the text.
1.Let the students retell the strange things mentioned in the text to review the text and lead to the new knowledge.
2.Give them two versions to compare and they will discover the benefits of using restrictive relative clauses in describing things.
3.Introduce the terms of restrictive relative clauses to the students.
4.Summarize the form and usage of restrictive relative clauses.
II.Find restrictive relative clauses.
1.Find and underline the restrictive relative clauses in exercise 1 on page 51, and explain the usage of “whose” to the students.
2.Find more sentences with restrictive relative clauses from the text on page 50.
3.Observe the sentences above and find out the relationship between antecedents and relative pronouns. While observing, explain the usage of “whom” usually being used after a preposition to the students.
4.Summarize the usage of relative pronouns using a form.
III.Practice to use relative pronouns.
Complete the sentences in exercise 2 on page 51 with pronouns and translate them into Chinese.
IV.Practice to understand the form of restrictive relative clauses.
Try to put the two sentence below into one with restrictive relative clauses.
1.Soon after the quakes, the army sent 150, 000 soldiers to Tangshan to dig out the trapped victoms and to bury the dead. The soldiers are from Chinese People’s Liveration Army.
2.A new Tangshan had been built upon the earthquake ruins. The new city has become a home to more than seven million people.
3.China is one of the safest countries with the COVID-19 all over the world. We all have confidence in China.
4.We have a group of great leaders in our country and their mission is to serve the people wholeheartedly.
V.Watch a video about our great country in which our motherland gives her people help, courage and faith in disasters and practice to tell stories with restrictive relative clauses.
1.The first story is centered on a man called Lin Zhiyuan who is the designer and installer of the electric flagpole. He is afraid of height, but he climbed the flagpole to the top to replace the blocking ball so that the flag raising in the founding ceremony of the People's Republic of China would be successful.

2.Scientific researcher Gao Yuan left his family and girlfriend Fang Min for the development work of China’s atomic bomb. To keep this work secret, he pretended that he didn't know the girl
who he had been missing very much, when they came across each other on a bus three years later. Fang Min finally learnt everything from the TV when China’s first atomic bomb went off successfully.

3.The third story is about a boy whose name is Dongdong. He missed his friend Xiaomei’s farewell for he chosed to stabilize the antenna on the roof to ensure that his neighbors can watch the Chinese women's volleyball team win the three successive championships on TV. Dongdong finally met the girl who had become a physicist returning from abroad when the Chinese women's volleyball team won the second three successive championships.

4.In order to make sure the return of Hong Kong could be exactly at 0:00 o’clock, the Chinese diplomats negotiated with the British representatives for 16 times. However, they stole the money which was raised to save the life of the old party secretary. The old party secretary didn't blame them and took them to see the "special guests" that came back from space. When the spacecraft landed, they saw the legend of the "day meteor" which left on them a great impact and gave their heart a baptism(洗礼).

7.Lv Xiaoran, the most outstanding female pilot in the PLA air Force, was unexpectedly pulled out of the military parade which is to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II. Frustrated, she restrained her emotions and excellently completed the standby mission to ensure the success of the parade.
