Two years ago, my son sat me down for a talk. “Mom, it’s time,” he said. “Hear me out: It’s time we got actual TV. And you need an iPhone.”
This funny conversation two years ago marked a change in our relationship. Perhaps for the first time, I began to really listen to John’s opinion about our home technology. Since his reasoning was sound and his suggestions were within budget, I took his advice and was pleasantly surprised with the results.
I’d known for a while that my son understands technology better than I do. On airplanes, he grabbed my phone to put it in airplane mode. He wired the speakers in our house. After something was stolen from our front yard, he picked out, set up, and now monitors our security camera. When my computer died, I took him shopping with me.
He has a busy social life, with skateboarding, basketball, and online gaming. I see our time together reducing and our shared interests shrinking. That’s why I jumped at the chance when a friend mentioned writing technology reviews. When I presented the idea to my teen, he immediately accepted.
It’s changed our relationship in surprising ways. Where he used to get annoyed quickly at my technical ignorance, he’s learned to be more patient and explain things to me in a way that I can convey to an equally unknowing audience. The parent- child dynamic is not only changed; it’s even slightly reversed (颠倒). He’s leading me. I’m asking him for help and advice.
My son has risen to the occasion. He’s taking it seriously, and to watch him mature in this way is an honor. As someone not much of a reader, he now searches instruction booklets. Without any prompting, he’s even emailed and called — yes, made an actual phone call — to customer service or tech support when products weren’t working as expected.
I never imagined being a tech reviewer, but it’s proved to be a valuable way to learn from, work with, and enjoy time with my teen.

A. To make more money to support the family.
B. To keep a close relationship with her son.
C. To learn more about modern technology.
D. To get some products for free.
27. What made the author feel honored
A. Her son’s patience to explain technical things.
B. Her son’s control of the parent-child dynamic.
C. Her son’s careful attitude towards the reviews.
D. Her son’s rich knowledge of technical terms.

Do you often compare yourself to other people Comparisons can help to make decisions and motivate you but they can also pull you into a comparison trap.
Whether it’s the number of goals you’ve scored at football or how many books you’ve read, it’s easy to compare yourself to someone else. Scientists say it’s a natural behaviour that helps humans learn from each other, live happily together and achieve more. Although comparing can be good for you, it’s not always helpful and you can find yourself stuck in a comparison trap. This is when you always measure yourself against others and base your feelings on how well they seem to be doing.
Becky Goddard-Hill is a child therapist (someone who helps children understand their feelings) and author of Create Your Own Confidence. She says that comparisons can make us feel good and bad about ourselves. “Comparing up” means seeing someone doing better than you and using that to inspire yourself to aim higher and try harder. However, Goddard-Hill says, “Sometimes it can make you feel rubbish about yourself and knock your confidence.” “Comparing down” is when you see someone who seems like they’re not doing as well as you. This might make you feel you’re doing well, says Goddard-Hill,but it can also stop you wanting to improve.
If your feelings depend on what other people are doing, “Surround yourself with cheerleaders,” suggests Goddard-Hill. Notice how people make you feel and spend time with friends who celebrate your strengths rather than compare themselves to you. If you follow social media accounts that make you feel you are failing in any way, unfollow them. “Find ones that make you laugh or show you lovely places instead,” she says. Finally, focus on your own achievements and how you can improve. “The best person you can compete with is yourself,” says Goddard-Hill.
28. How does a comparison trap affect us
A. It makes us focus on our own behaviour.
B. It stops us from learning from each other.
C. It prevents us from living happily together.
D. It bases our feelings on others’ achievements.
29. What’s true about “Comparing up” and “Comparing down”
A. Both of them usually enhance our confidence.
B. Both of them have advantages and disadvantages.
C. The former is positive while the latter is negative.
D. The former makes us feel good while the latter makes us feel bad.
30. What does Goddard-Hill suggest
A. Aiming to be our best. B. Trying to be the best.
C. Trying to be a cheerleader. D. Valuing someone else’s achievements.
31. In which section of the magazine can you find the passage
A. Achievement. B. Entertainment.
C. Health. D. Politics.

Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei officially launched the 2.0 version of its self-developed operating system (OS) on Wednesday night, the HarmonyOS. The move paved the way for the Chinese firm to challenge Google's and Apple's role in current and future OS ecosystems.
Among the major advantages, the HarmonyOS, with a highly scalable(可扩展的)distributed platform, can be applied to multiple devices, including smartphones, computers, and other electronic devices, the company said.
Analysts said the OS will do a lot to promote Huawei's transformation into being a software service provider. Huawei's founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei said that the company was focusing on software because future development in the field was fundamentally “outside of US control and we will have greater independence and autonomy(自主权)”. Ren called on the company's staff to “dare to lead the world” in software.
“The success of a software system will always have to rely on hardware(硬件), but currently, Huawei doesn't have enough hardware to support its software ambitions — that's the most difficult part,” said Jiang Junmu, chief writer at a news website. Once as the world's largest smartphone maker, Huawei's domestic smartphone market share has continued to drop in recent months. Liang Zhenpeng, an industry analyst, said that as an OS aimed for the Internet of Things(IoT) era, the HarmonyOS may need more time and equipment to test than the OS for smartphones, and that will take at least two to three years.
Moreover, Liang noted that an ecosystem will always be the decisive factor for the success of an operating system. “Does the HarmonyOS have enough applications that can attract consumers to update to the OS That's a question,” Liang said. So far, more than 300 application and service partners, 1000 hardware partners, and 500,000 developers have participated in the construction of the Harmony ecosystem.
32. What highlights the HarmonyOS
A. It operates faster than Google system.
B. It works on a diverse range of equipment.
C. It provides users with a secure experience.
D. It has different versions in different countries.
33. What does Ren Zhengfei convey in his words
A. Huawei's transformation is challenging.
B. Huawei will break its dependence on the US.
C. The company's staff need to improve their skills.
D. Huawei is seeking a new software service provider.
34. What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about
A. The future software ambition of Huawei.
B. The success of developing the HarmonyOS.
C. Smartphone sales in the domestic market.
D. The difficulties in promoting the HarmonyOS.
35. What does Liang expect partners and developers to do
A. Create enough applications.
B. Update the original devices.
C. Establish a HarmonyOS ecosystem.
D. Cooperate with experts in various fields.

I still remember the day when we decorated the house, I was ten and it was two weeks before Christmas. I was looking forward to my presents. I was the. only center of attention and it was feeling good.
My uncles usually would ask me what I wanted before Christmas and that year I knew what I wanted. It was the spaceship I saw in the ads. I was dreaming of opening a big gift box, and it was there. But that year it came in a way that I wasn't expecting.
It was two weeks before Christmas. Just two weeks. She couldn't wait. My dear mother told my father that it was time, and then we went to the hospital. After an hour, they told mc that I had a sister now. But I didn't want a sister. I wanted a spaceship. The next few days went so fast. No one was caring about me. Everyone was talking about her and I knew that my life was never going to be the same ever again. I wasn't ready to grow up, to be a big brother. But it just happened in an instant.
On the day before Christmas, everyone was in our home, talking only about my newborn sister. My family was becoming hers. Even my uncles didn't ask me anything about the gift. She stole everything I'd ever had, my life and my presents. Thinking about this, I cried to sleep. I had a nightmare(薇梦) and wok e up at the middle of the night. Shadows were all around me, and I was defenseless and so weak. I ra n into my parents' bedroom but couldn't wake up my poor parents who were just too worn out. 第一节
参考范文:
Dear Chris,
I’m writing to share with you a cooking class in the school kitchen last Friday. It was an incredibly rewarding and enjoyable experience.
In this class I tried a classic Chinese dish — Scrambled Eggs with Tomatoes. It involved lightly scrambling eggs and then stir-frying them with fresh tomatoes, adding a bit of sugar and salt for flavor. It sounds easy, but getting the right texture and balance of flavors took some effort! In the end, I was pretty happy with how it turned out. The eggs were tender, and the tomatoes added a nice, sour sweetness.
I really enjoyed the lesson because it felt satisfying to make something delicious with my own hands. Have you ever taken any cooking lessons at school I’d love to hear about it and maybe even exchange some recipes!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
【参考范文】
Suddenly, she started crying. The sound echoed in the quiet room, piercing the silence like a sharp black(刀片).I stood frozen, unsure of what to do as my heart raced. My parents didn't wake up, so I hesitated for a moment, biting my lip before stepping closer to her crib(婴儿床). Her tiny face was scrunched up(揉成一团), her little hands reaching out, trembling slightly. Without thinking, I gently touched her hand, and to my surprise, she stopped crying, gazing up at me with wide, curious eyes as if she knew me.
After having comforted her, something slowly changed inside me. The jealousy I had been feeling, so heavy and bitter, started to melt away like snow in the sun. She was just a baby, small and helpless, with no idea of the storm in my heart. I realized that she wasn't here to steal my life, but to be a part of it, a new chapter. Maybe being a big brother wasn't so, bad after all. As I stood there, warmth spreading through my chest, I felt something new— maybe love, or responsibility. For the first time, I smiled at my sister, knowing that Christmas would be different, but maybe in a good way.
