The winter break is just about to end. Soon we will be back at school. It’s with both happiness and sadness. I look very much forward to seeing my friends and starting practice again, but it also means I’m officially(正式地) half way through the exchange year. With school starting there are new things to try out and experience. For example I’m starting a new sport, Track. It’s similar to Cross Country, which I did from August till November.
Being here for half a year now I can easily tell the differences between my two schools. The hardest or most different part for me was to have the same schedule every day here. Honestly, I prefer to have different classes every day, as I did in my home country. However, I have fallen in love with the Friday football games. Football is one of my favorite sports now. Before I came, I knew nothing about it. Now I love it, especially to watch it with my host parents. I have also been so lucky to go to two college football games.
Before I left school in December I had a couple of tests called Mid-term Test. They all went pretty smooth, mostly because I didn’t have too many hard classes. My favorite class was English, and also my hardest. Personally I really liked English, where I could write essays(文章), challenge writing skills and improve English talking.
Only four days of winter break is left. A part of me wants to be on a break forever, and the other part expects to get started again, start a new sport and see my friends and classmates.
4. Why does the author feel sad before school starts again
A. Her homework is not finished. B. The exchange year will end soon.
C. Her school life will get harder. D. The new sport no longer attracts her.
5. How does the school in the author’s home country differ from the one she is in now
A. The courses are richer. B. The teachers are kinder.
C. The meals are healthier. D. The holidays are longer.
6. What does the author enjoy doing most with the host family
A. Having a talk in English. B. Playing video games.
C. Watching football matches. D. Visiting her relatives.
7. What does the underlined word “They” in the third paragraph refer to
A. Classes. B. Tests. C. Games. D. Students.

Efforts were underway in Bangladesh to deliver food and drinking water to millions of people struggling after a heavy rain led to flooding, which struck a quarter of the country. There are around 3.5 million Bangladeshis at risk of river flooding every year according to a 2023 report by the World Bank.
On Wednesday, at least 17 of the country’s 64 districts (地区), mostly in the northern and north-eastern Sylhet, were suffering from the natural disaster. Government officials said at least 36 people had been killed and about 4.5 million people had been stuck so far. The floods also caused damage to agriculture (农业), electricity, and clean water supply.
Sylhet is among the worst affected, with several areas without electricity. “Many people are in great need of food and drinking water,” said Enam Ahmed, 45, living in the worst-hit Sunmaganj district. “There is water everywhere but no drinking water. Flood shelters are filled with people but they are not getting enough food,” he said.
The situation in Bangladesh has been worsened by rainwater falling down from the surrounding hills of India’s Meghalaya state, which received more than 970 mm (about 38 inches) of rain on Sunday, according to a government report.
“The flood situation in the three Barak valley districts continues to be very serious. Army rescuers have evacuated (疏散) thousands of trapped people to safe places. 14 rescue teams with more than 70 boats and over 400 men have been pressed into action in the heavily flooded districts,” said a local flood control official. About 5.5 million people have been displaced, about 3.7 million of whom are staying in government-run temporary (临时的) shelters on higher ground.
Locals in the flood-affected areas said they had never seen such serious floods before.
8. What is the second paragraph mainly about
A. The role played by government officials. B. The people trapped in the disaster.
C. The number of districts in the country. D. The damage caused by the floods.
9. What do we know about the flood shelters
A. There is a crying need for food. B. They can provide enough clean water.
C. They are too old to hold people. D. There are few villagers staying inside.
10. Why has the situation in Bangladesh become worse and worse
A. By rain falling down from the neighboring hills.
B. By surrounding rivers overflowing.
C. By breaking of dams.
D. By never experiencing such serious floods.
11. What can we infer from the text
A. More rescue efforts are needed. B. The floods hit the whole country.
C. The disaster is the biggest ever. D. Rivers nationwide are at risk.
D
Last month, a study was published that examined climate change’s direct effects on the Earth’s seasons. Scientists found a connection between climate change and the temperature and duration of the summer season. Summers in the Northern hemisphere(北半球) could last nearly six months by the year 2100 if global warming continues, according to the study. With the seasons off-balance, there will be harmful effects on human health and agriculture.
Yuping Guan, a physical oceanographer at the State Key Laboratory of Tropical Oceanography at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and his colleagues combined daily climate data from 1952 to 2011 to get a sense of the start and end of each season in the Northern hemisphere. Over the nearly 60-year period, they discovered that, on average, summers grew from 78 to 95 days, while winters shortened from 76 to 73 days. The spring and autumn seasons also shortened. Guan and his team used the findings from the data to create a model to hypothesize (假设) about how the seasons would possibly change in the future. They found that if left untouched, summers in the Northern hemisphere could last nearly six months, while winters could contract to less than two months.
If the Earth’s seasons continue to shift, it will bring negative effects to human health and agriculture. Longer and hotter summers, for example, can cause mosquitoes and other disease-carrying insects to potentially expand their scope and land in places where they’re usually not found. “Because seasons influence the life cycles of plants and animals, climate change could disturb species’ ability to adapt,” said Scott Sheridan, a climate scientist. “If seasons continue to change, everything isn’t going to change perfectly as they should. If we take the example of flowers coming out of the ground, those flowers could come out, but bees aren’t there to pollinate them yet or they’re already past their peak.” With negative effects like these, human health and agriculture will face hardship while moving forward.
This study further demonstrates how cruel climate change is to humans, plants and animals, reminding us how much we are all connected with the environment we share.
12. What did scientists find according to the study
A Some seasons will disappear in their tracks.
B. Global warming will be at its worst in 2100.
C. Climate change affects the days of summers.
D. Human health remains unharmed by climate change.
13. What does the underlined word "contract" in the second paragraph mean
A. Add. B. Extend. C. Keep. D. Shorten.
14. What can we infer about the effects of longer and hotter summers
A. Mosquitoes can survive in more places.
B. The environment will change as we wish.
C. Human health and agriculture are hardly affected.
D. Some species are more able to adapt to the change.
15. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. Is the Earth getting warmer
B. Is climate change bringing hardship
C. Is mankind to blame for longer summers
D. Is summer taking over from all other seasons

Isla and I were studying in the same school. We had been friends since we were six years old. I took Isla as a smart, funny friend, but not all students at our school did, especially the girl students. Girls in our school wore fashionable branded clothes, but Isla sewed hers and her curly hair and thick glasses made her look like a fish, which made her stand out like a sore thumb(招眼).
For me, sometimes I felt embarrassed to be around Isla, particularly when students said rude words about her hair, clothes, glasses—even about the fact that she got really good grades. Isla always seemed to be able to ignore what other students thought, but I couldn’t. I began to distance myself from her.
Our school had a tradition—there was a talent show every spring. Students would sing, dance, play musical instruments, and do whatever they could to show their talents. Being our graduation season in this senior school, this year’s talent show would be obviously different. It would be a huge night.
Ava, who was an outgoing girl, invited me to be on her dance team. “We win the talent show every year, and we expect a satisfactory graduation this year,” Ava said to me excitedly. “We need a new dancer. But only you, not her!” Ava pointed to someone behind me.
I didn’t need to turn around to see who she meant. “Oh, I see,” I said quietly. Ava had hardly headed out when someone tapped on my shoulder. It was Isla. When I saw her confused face, it was like waking up from a dream. Isla asked me eagerly, “Emily, are you going to take part in the talent show ” I hesitated without response. “That’s great, Emily!” Isla told me without waiting for my answer that she was also going to participate this year. I couldn’t believe what I had heard. I started to worry about her when I imagined that she was in front of a huge crowd, and that everybody would laugh at her.
Time passed quickly, and I had barely seen Isla since then. For me, I had to practice hard every day with Ava and the team to keep up since the other dancers had already known the steps.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Ultimately, it was my turn to perform, and I felt extremely nervous.

Before I left school in December, I had a couple of tests called Mid-term Test.

C The number of districts in the country.

A. Some seasons will disappear in their tracks.
【答案】12. C 13. D 14. A 15. D

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 Ultimately, it was my turn to perform, and I felt extremely nervous. I didn’t want to be regarded as different from the others. Isla walked to me and hugged me tightly. “Come on, Emily!” Isla encouraged me. “I believe you will do great because you are a wonderful dancer. Don’t care too much about what others think. Just trust yourself.” Soon, I took my place on the stage. I remembered every step and every move. When the music was over, the crowd burst into cheers. At that moment, I felt like a dancing queen!
I stepped off the stage and expressed my thanks to Isla who was ready to sing. I was a little worried at the beginning because the crowd became restless. Luckily, Isla ignored it. I stood up, shouting, “Isla, you are the best!” Her homemade dress was shining in the light, but her eyes were clouded with tears. When Isla’s singing died down, all the students were still lost in her unique voice. Some even began singing like her, and then more. Their singing resounded around the hall. I rushed to the stage after her performance, hugging her cheerfully. That was enough! We could never be distanced.
