How can we relax after busy workdays
Walking through the city streets at weekends is now a new favourite among young people in China. It is called Citywalk. People can take a Citywalk on their own or by following a tour guide. They usually don't go to famous shopping centres. Instead, they go to small shops or restaurants, take a close look at old buildings and know about the history and culture of the city.
Many City walkers love to share their routes with others, including how long the walk will take and what beautiful places they will see along the way. It is helpful to others who also want to take a Citywalk.
Nan Xi, a girl from Beijing, moved to Shanghai not long ago. One day, when she went online to find something interesting to do at weekends, she got to know about Citywalk."I think Shanghai is a wonderful city to take a Citywalk. There are big trees along the streets and shops selling different things. It's great for friends to walk together and take photos," she said. She decided to have a try. She had a two-hour Citywalk tour. During the tour, the guide talked about the history of the buildings and streets along the way."I enjoyed the trip that day. Coming into the town of Santa Palopó, in the highlands of Lake Atitlan, the first thing you notice is the bright colours. Most of the buildings along the main street are eye-catching, colours of blues and greens; mixed with red and yellow to form beautiful pictures.
Santa Palopó was once a sleepy town of 5,000 people. Most of them were indigenous(土著的) and lived by agricultural work(农业). As agriculture began to slow down here, many of its families became poor. To deal with the bad situation and improve economic(经济的) growth through tourism, a small group of farmers, artists, local workers and stay-at-home mums created the Pintando project.
The project was firstly to paint all 850 homes and buildings in bright colours, in order to change the hillside town into a work of art. "We wanted to paint the houses with colours and shapes that represent the community," says the project’s director Stephen."A lot of designs were created so that families can choose designs for their house that are representative of the family."
One of the most representative characters of the region is the blue huipil, a traditional dress which has been worn by local women since the 16th century. That deep sky blue was chosen as the primary colour for the Pintando project, with other colours found in the sunsets and the nearby lake to make the design more beautiful. As for the designs that would be used, they would also find inspiration(灵感) in local culture, symbols such as hills, flowers, Mayan-styled butterflies and the national bird.
Each week, local farmers, community members and tourists pick up paintbrushes to make buildings colourful. "Now you can see a huge difference in the town," Melissa White said. Off the northwest coast of Malaysia, a group of islands called Langkawi sits upon the sea. It was the place of our last school trip. The trip was very exciting at first, because everything was new to me.
On that day, we got up early and jumped onto the boat. As the boat started, snow-white water came out from below the boat, and the wind rushed into my face. The first island(岛) we arrived at was called the Island of the Lady, whose name came from the mountains looking like a beautiful lady. As the weather was nice, I spent half an hour playing with my classmates in the water. It was really fun and exciting. Everything was fine until one of my water shoes fell into the lake. So I had to go on the trip with only one shoe.
When we first walked through the forest, I thought it was a nice walk. But with only one shoe, my foot came across either cold glass pieces or hot stones along the way. As the day went on, the land became increasingly jagged(凹凸不平的).I winced(皱起脸) with every step I took. It was a trip of pain. But then something magical happened. I suddenly found a seashell which was the size of my hand! I felt like I had found gold and all the pain was gone.
