  Dorothy Hoffner was a 104-year-old Chicago woman. On 1 October, 2023, she jumped out of a plane from 13, 500 ft at Skydive Chicago in Ottawa. It was not her first time to jump from a plane. Four years ago, she tried it for the first time.
  “Age is just a number, ”Hoffner said proudly after landing. “The whole thing was . It couldn’t be better. ”
  Hoffner’s close friend Joe Conant said sadly that Hoffner was found dead on Monday morning by people who work at the Brookdale Lake View senior living community. She died in her sleep peacefully on the night of 8 October, Sunday.
  Conant said Hoffner had amazing energy. “She never seemed to be tired. She just kept going, ”he said on Tuesday. “She was not someone who would have a little sleep in the afternoon. She always showed up in all situations. She was always devoting herself into them. She always kept going, and never gave up. ”
  Conant is working through paperwork to make sure that Hoffner is the oldest skydiver in the world in the Guinness Book of World Records(《吉尼斯世界纪录大全》), but he thinks it will take some time. The present record was set in May 2022 by 103-year-old Linnéa Ingeg rd Larsson of Sweden.   Lu Hong who was listed among the finalists for Touching China 2022 was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (脑瘫) when he was a child. His disabilities meant that he spent his primary and middle school years in pain. Every time he had PE class, all his classmates could run and jump as they liked on the playground while he had to sit alone in the classroom.
  After graduation he opened his photo shop. At first, most customers would turn away from Lu’s shop because they doubted his skills and service. To get customers, Lu promised to take pictures for free if customers were not satisfied with his work.   In 2017, with the help of the Association for Disabled People in Suzhou, Lu Hong opened a photo factory and offered jobs to disabled people. In just a few years his factory has developed from a small workshop to a proper company.
  There are over 40 workers in Lu’s factory, more than 30 of whom are disabled. “It’s not easy for people with disabilities to find work. I hope to provide them with an opportunity to realize their full ability and go for their life goals, ” he said.
