Everyone is afraid of something.
Tommy, 11, is afraid of the dark. Rachel ,11, is most afraid of the big jellyfish (水母)in Australia. Morgan, 9 ,wishes she would stop being afraid to ride a bike on busy streets.
What’s fear Fear is a feeling that everyone has, and that’s a good thing because fear is there to protect us . When the fear comes ,it means we may meet something dangerous.
For the fear of dark , a kid could have much imagination .What’s under my bed Is there someone breaking into (闯入)my house With the help of a parent , kids can get more comfortable in the dark. Using a night light to see that there’s nothing there can also help fight that fear.
For other fears ,we needn’t fight . If you’re afraid to ride your bike on a busy street ,you’re right ! You should be afraid because it’s dangerous. There’s no need to fight a fear like that . Find a better place to ride.
It’s also ok for Rachel to be afraid of the big jellyfish because it’s really dangerous . But it lives only in some waters. So when she’s not swimming in one of them ,there should be no worries about the big jellyfish.
Here is some advice about fighting fears from kids.
Monique,10, says when you are scared, just think about happy times . Eight-year-old Jessica finds that taking a deep breath helps when you’re scared. Amanda ,10, thinks kids should talk with a parent . Dustin ,11, likes to talk with a group of friends.

Dear 17-year-old self,
When your Lakers’ (洛杉矶湖人队) dream comes true tomorrow, you need to think out a way to invest (投资) in the future of your family and friends. This sounds simple, but you have to take some time to think it over.
I said invest. I did not say give. Let me explain.
Just giving material things to your siblings (兄弟姐妹) and friends may seem to be right decision. You love them, and they were always there for your giving up, so it’s only right that they should share your success and all that comes with it. Y ou buy them a car, a big house, and pay all of their bills. You want them to live a comfortable life, right
But that is not the truth.
You will come to understand that you were taking care of them because it made you feel good to see them smiling. That was very selfish (自私的) of you. While you were feeling satisfied (满意的) with yourself, you were slowly eating away at their own dreams and ambitions (抱负). You were adding material things to their lives, but taking away the most precious (珍贵的) gifts of all: independence (独立) and growth.
You are going to be the leader of the family. This includes making hard choices, even if your siblings and friends do not understand them at the time.
Invest in their future; don’t just give.
Use your success, wealth and influence to put them in the best position to realize their own dreams and find their true purposes. Put them through school, set them up with job interviews and help them become leaders on their own.
I’m writing to you now so that you can begin this process quickly because your success has led to anger and jealousy (嫉妒) among your family.
There’s much more I could write to you, but at 17, I know you don’t have the attention span (注意力持续时间) to sit through 2, 000 words. Trust me, setting things up right from the beginning will avoid a ton of tears and heartache.
Much love,
Kobe

In fact, poor eyesight among Chinese primary and high school students rose from 59.2 percent to 70.6 percent in the first six months of 2020, according to the Ministry of Education.

It’s hard to turn down junk food. However, eating too much is bad for your body, especially if you’re between the ages of 10 and 19. “Junk food shapes teenage brains in ways that make their ability to think, learn and remember weaker. It can also make it harder to control bad behaviors. It may even up a teen’s risk of mental (精神上的) problems,” said Amy Reichelt, a scientist at Western University, Canada.
Reichelt and two other researchers reviewed more than 100 studies about how poor food choices can make a big difference to teenage brains. They found teenagers are more sensitive (敏感的) than any other age group to foods with a lot of fat and sugar, as their brains are not yet fully formed.
Teenage brains are still developing the ability to notice risks and control actions. The prefrontal cortex (前额皮质) is the part of the brain tells us we shouldn’t eat chips all the time and helps us control ourselves. However, this part doesn’t fully develop until we are in our early 20s. At the same time, teen brains get more excited from prizes. The parts of the brain that make us feel good when we do something happy—like eating tasty foods—are fully developed by the teen years.
As a result, the teen brain has two hits against it when it comes to refusing junk food. Reichelt and her team did an experiment using mice, whose brains develop much like our own. They discovered that “teenage” mice that had high-fat foods performed worse on memory tests than those eating normal foods.
So, what’s the best way to say no to junk food The answer is exercise. When we exercise, the brain becomes less sensitive to food, besides this, it also helps our brains grow and become better able to make wise decisions.

Enough Sleep Could Reduce Risk of Injury
A new study suggests that enough sleep is necessary and important for people.
The researchers found that people who got no more than four to five hours of sleep a night were easier to be hurt than those who slept eight hours or longer.
Compared to those who slept eight hours or more each night, people who slept less than seven hours were more likely to experience a musculoskeletal(骨骼) injury(伤害).
The risk climbed as the hours of sleep dropped, with a 53-percent greater injury risk at six hours of sleep. The study notes that getting enough rest could be a better way to reduce injury risk.
Dr. Hohui Wang is in the University of California, San Francisco. He said that getting too little sleep leads people to be more likely to get hurt. So getting extra sleep might help.
Most people are healthiest and perform their best with seven to nine hours of sleep a night, said Captain Jeffrey Osgood.
Osgood said, “The less we sleep, the worse we perform in everyday life.” So he offered suggestions for how people can get more – and better-quality(质量) – sleep.
“Please avoid coffee and exercise before sleeping; it’s a better way to keep your bedroom dark and quiet. What’s more, please keep your phone out of bed.

1.I can’t decide __________.
A.what to do it B.how shall I do it
C.how to do it D.what shall I do it
2.—Mike has lunch at school.
—__________.
A.So does Tom B.So has Tom C.So Tom has D.So Tom does
【答案】A
I enjoy reading the book and so does my wife.
-- I’ve lost the address. -- So have I.我也弄丢了.
如:-It is cold today. -So it is.
-He studies hard. -So he does.
3.—______great progress he has made during the last few months!
—Yes. That’s all because of his hard work.
A.What B.How C.What a D.How a
【答案】A
1. What + a/an +形容词+可数名词单数+主语+谓语! 2.
How +形容词+ a/an +可数名词单数+主语+谓语!
How beautiful a girl she is! = What a beautiful girl she is!
What delicious cakes these are! = How delicious these cakes are!
4.—When shall we go to watch the basketball match in the sports center
—________tomorrow.
A.Until the work will be done
B.Until the work is done
C.Not until the work will be done
D.Not until the work is done
5.They ________ that a passport be carried with you at all times.
A.advise B.tell C.hope D.expect
【答案】A
根据“a passport be carried...” (should) do. sth. 故选A。
6.Man's understanding of nature is developing . It never stays at the same level.
A.at the right time B.at any time
C.from time to time D.all the time
A. at the right time在一个适当的时刻;B. at any time在任何时候;C. from time to time不时地,偶尔;D. all the time总是,一直。根据“It never stays at the same level从未停留在同一水平上”可知人类对自然的理解没有间断过,“Man’s understanding of nature is developing”用的是现在进行时表示当前阶段一直在发生的事,故选D。
7.When the sun _______ in the morning, our national flag _______.
A.is raised, will be raised B.rises, will be risen
C.rises, will be raised D.is raised, will rise
8.—Mum, ______ shall we have lunch —We will have it when your dad ______.
A.when;returns B.where;will return
C.where;returns D.when;will return
【答案】A
9.—Sorry, I am late, ________ my bike is broken.
—Repair it in time, ________ you won’t come late next.
A.because, or B.and, and C.but, or D.but, and
because因为;or或者,否则;but除了,但是;and和;并且。
10.Amy’s father__________ angry when he__________ the news.
A.will get;will hear B.gets;will hear
C.will get;hears D.gets;heard
We will go to the park if it doesn’t rain next week. I will tell you as soon as he comes back tomorrow.
11.The Diary of a Young Girl several languages since then.
A.has translated into B.has been translated into
C.translated into D.was translated into
The Diary of a Young Girl与translate之间是被动的关系,因此句子用现在完成时态的被动语态来表达,其构成为have/has+been+及物动词的过去分词,故答案为B。
English is spoken in many countries.
Was this novel written by his father
(3) 一般将来时被动语态的构成:will/be going to do + be + 动词的过去分词
The baby will be taken good care of in the hospital.
Has his work been finished
The problem is being discussed by the students.
Your composition must be handed in tomorrow.
12.―What's the matter him
―He's worrying about his job. The job more him than anything else.
A.with; matters; with B.with; matters; to
C.to; matter; with D.to; mattered; to
What’s the matter with sb.
13.What is she________ her neighbour
A.quarrelled with B.quarrelling with
C.quarrelled about wih D.quarrelling about with
14.—_________ did you leave the classroom
—___________ I saw my daughter sit down and read her book.
A.How long; After B.When; Until
C.How long; Until D.When; After
How long多长时间,提问时间段;After在…… 根据问句“did you leave the classroom”可知,此处询问离开教室的时间点,所以排除A和C;根据答句“I saw my daughter sit down and read her book”可知,我是在看到女儿坐下读书以后离开教室的,所以使用after。故选D。
15.There used to be a house_______ on the top of the mountain.
A.standing B.stands C.stood D.stand
【答案】A
Do you know the boy standing under the tree (可换做who is standing);过去分词一般表示被动含意,Have you found the pen bought in Beijing (可换做that/which was bought)。

Much love,
Kobe
