Listening to birds and water can lower stress and improve the mood, study finds. Researchers
have long known there are benefits from being in nature. Living around trees can help you live
longer. Walking in the woods is good for your mood. Being near water can have positive effects on
your well-being.
A new study finds that natural sounds offer health benefits too. There is plenty of evidence that
spending time in natural areas is good for our health, but typically this research is done from a visual
perspective, but we are curious about what the role of sounds we hear in these spaces is.
Some examples they found reported in those studies included the decreased pain, lowered stress,
improved the mood, and better cognitive(认知的 ) function. With these results in hand, they then
listened to audio recordings from 251sites in 68 national parks across the United States.
The sites with the most natural sounds and the lowest man-made sounds were located in Alaska,
Hawaii, and the Pacific Northwest and were far from urban areas. Only three locations with high
natural sounds and low noise pollution were within 100 kilometers (about 62 miles) of urban areas.
However, despite human-made noises being heard most of the time at sites in urban locations,
birds were still heard about 60% of the time and geophysical sounds like wind and rain were heard
about 19% of the time.
Not all natural sounds deliver the same benefits, the researchers found. For example, they
discovered that the sounds of water had the largest impact on improving positive emotions and health
outcomes, while bird sounds ease stress and annoyance. And the sounds of both birds and water were
heard more than 23% of the time in the national park recording sites.
Interestingly, there was also some evidence that natural sounds have benefits over silence.
There was also evidence that more different types of natural sounds—more types of birds singing
rather than just one type of bird—have benefits over fewer sounds.
24.What is an ideal site to hear natural sounds according to Paragraph 4
A.It has no noise pollution. B.It is away from cities.
C.It has birdsong most of the time. D.It is within 62 miles of urban areas.
25.What does the new study focus on
A.The harm man-made sounds do to health.
B.The benefits natural sounds bring to the environment.
C.The effect natural sounds have on health.
D.The effect nature has on people from a visual perspective.
26.What brings more benefits to people
A.The silence of nature. B.The diversity of natural sounds.
C.The sounds of water. D.Natural sounds mixed with noises.
27.Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A.It Is Beneficial to Live Close to Water
B.We Are Surrounded by All Kinds of Sounds
C.The Sounds of Nature Affect Your Well-being
D.Man-made Noise Pollution Is Harmful to Our Health

Weeds(野草) compete for soil nutrients, water, space, and sunlight with the crops farmers grow
to help feed people. Now a third-generation weeding robot, armed with lasers(激光) and powered by
AI, offers a labor-saving( 节 省 劳 力 的 ) device—while also avoiding the need for chemical
herbicides(除草剂).
The Autonomous Weeder by Carbon Robotics can clear 100,000 weeds per hour, and clear 15-
20 acres in a single day—numbers that a person needs to work an entire season to match.
Moving along a row of crops, twelve cameras scan the ground, identifying weeds through
machine-learning and killing them with a CO2 laser. The robot's onboard supercomputer ensures
high accuracy with its laser so as to avoid accidentally cutting crops.
"This is one of the most innovative and valuable technologies that I've seen as a farmer," said
James Johnson of Carzalia Farm in a statement, who has used Carbon Robotics' technology on his
farm. "I expect the robots to go mainstream because of how effectively they address some of
farming's most critical issues, including the overuse of chemicals, process efficiency, and labor. The
sky is the limit."
If a farmer wants to avoid using chemical herbicides, which have flooded nearly every corner of
our food and water supply chains with a probable carcinogen(致癌物 ), they must find enough
unskilled workers to pull weeds manually—a difficult task in the market short of agricultural labor.
Since it can solve both problems, it's no surprise that the 2021 model of the Autonomous
Weeder has already sold out, even considering it is priced at hundreds of thousands of dollars.
To make the device more accessible, rent options are available from the company, as they have
already made the 2022 models available for pre-orders.
The weeding method of the robot is organic and in line with sustainable farming practices. Cost-
effective weed control is the biggest difficulty of organic farming, and agriculturalists looking to
make the change finally have an option to help them get their vegetables out to people.
28.What can be learned about the third-generation weeding robot
A.It is CO2-driven. B.It damages crops by accident.
C.It functions with the help of lasers. D.It is used to pour chemical herbicides.
29.What is James Johnson's attitude to the weeding robot
A.Favorable. B.Curious. C.Doubtful. D.Critical.
30.Why is the 2021 model of the weeding robot so popular
A.It can work in different fields.
B.It can increase food production.
C.It is priced low and easy to operate.
D.It is labor-saving and protects human health.
31.What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A.Organic vegetables enjoy a wide market.
B.The new weeding method is accessible to farmers.
C.The weeding robot helps realize organic farming.
D.Cost control is the biggest problem of organic farming.
D
According to a survey performed by the European Agency for Safety &Health at Work, 45% of
the workers surveyed suffer from painful or tiring positions at work, 25% from back pain, and 20%
from muscle pain. Studies show that half of all European workers will be affected by work-related
diseases by 2030.
Wearable technologies can reduce such injuries and loss of productivity. One example is
Ironhand, a soft robotic glove from Bioservo Technologies, which provides five times the strength of
a 30-year-old man. The system consists of a glove fitted with sensors and artificial tendons(肌腱)
that increase grasping force. There is also a power pack that can be worn as a backpack. The glove
is programmed through an Android app, where the user can choose individual preference for force
needed, depending on the task.
When you grasp or pick up an object like a container, fingertip sensors detect the action and
activate motors that immediately respond and operate the tendons in the glove's fingers. The higher
the pressure on the sensors, the more the power delivered by Ironhand. A remote control or app can
be used to adjust the strength and sensitivity of the grip(握力).
"Programming is quite easy," said Mikael, Bioservo's marketing director. "It takes about an
hour for an operator to set the system and understand how the glove can help in different situations.
The hard part is getting the users to accept that they are getting help. It can be a tough task to make
them understand they don't need to apply as much power and can relax. "
Bioservo's earlier device, now called Carbonhand, was designed for healthcare, helping people
with limited grasping ability to recover or perform daily tasks. The firm was asked to work with the
auto producer General Motors (GM) to develop Ironhand for its workers. Through a license
agreement between them, Bioservo combined technology and developed Ironhand. At present,
Bioservo sells Ironhand for $6,500 per unit.
32.Why does the author mention the survey in the first paragraph
A. To make a comparison. B. To introduce the topic.
C. To provide an example. D. To make the text persuasive.
33.What docs Paragraph 3 mainly tell us about Ironhand
A. How it functions. B. How it is designed.
C. What it consists of. D. Why it is developed.
34.What did Mikael say about the Ironhand system
A. Users are slow to adapt to it.
B. It's popular with young users.
C. Operators need patience to set it.
D. It's not suite for all situations.
35.What's the main idea of the text
A. Occupational diseases can be prevented.
B. It's necessary to use robots in factories.
C. Ironhand boosts workers' grip.
D. Carbonhand can offer healthcare services.

第二节(满分 25 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Last Saturday, David was taking a walk in the park near his home when he noticed a woman
with a boy of about eight years old. When David passed them, he heard the woman yell. “How stupid
you are! You’re good at nothing.” David stopped and looked at the little boy. The boy said nothing.
He just stood there, looking upset.
David was reminded of his English teacher Mrs Brown in middle school. After he entered a
middle school, David lacked self-confidence because he was often made fun of by others. He was
often told that he was good at nothing, which David behaved. But one day it all changed.
One day, in an English writing class, Mrs Brown asked them to read a novel. They were asked
to write a new chapter of the novel after they finished reading it. A few days later, David handed in
his story. He didn’t give it much thought. But the next day, to his surprise, the comment “well done”
from Mrs Brown came into view the moment he turned to the page where the story was written.
When David read that, he almost burst into tears. He never expected to be praised one day. He
suddenly gained some self-confidence.
That day after he returned home, he wrote a short story and gave it to Mrs Brown the next
morning. And again he was praised. David became very interested in writing. He often wrote short
stories and asked Mrs Brown to read them improve writing skills. One year later, David joined the
school newspaper and became an editor of it. He was no longer that boy who lacked self-confidence.
He gained his confidence, and was hopeful about his future.
He succeeded in entering a college and kept writing. Several years after graduating from
college, he had his first book published. With some more books coming out, he became famous as a
writer in his country. And he owed his success to Mrs Brown’s encouragement. Without her
encouragement, his life might be very different now.

1. 续写词数应为 150 左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

第二节
答案:
Paragraph 1:
Inspired by his own life story, David decided to do something for that boy. He went to the
woman, who immediately recognized him because she had read his books and seen his pictures.
David started to chat with her. He told her that what she said to her boy was not appropriate. Then he
told her about the encouragement he once got from Mrs. Brown. In the end, he said, “I couldn’t have
become a writer if I had believed I was good at nothing.”
Paragraph 2:
The mother was ashamed when she heard that. She realized that she shouldn’t have called her
son stupid, which would make him lose confidence in himself. So she said, “Thank you for your
advice. I’ll never say such things to him again. Instead, I’ll find out what he’s good at and encourage
him.” The woman then left with the boy. Looking at the back of the boy, David felt relieved, hoping
his action could make a difference to the boy.
