[学科融合](2023襄阳中考改编) Some old Chinese inventions have won wide popularity around the world. Recently, a British woman used an ancient Chinese invention to help her son 1 a math problem.
Dr. Mantri grew up in India. She was taught 2 to use an abacus (算盘) to solve math problems when she was young. After noticing that her son Dhruy had great difficulty with math, she started using the same ancient Chinese tool to help him after school.
"My son was in Grade 5 when I noticed he was 3 in math." said Dr. Mantri, “I would ask him something very easy like ‘35 - 13 = ’, but he couldn't work it out."
"I never thought I would teach him to use such an old tool 4 I realized I could try the Chinese abacus. It is a useful 5 to help kids better understand numbers and basic calculations(基础计算). Very soon I saw the results. After six days, Dhruv started to make progress 6 with the help of the abacus. He even performed (表演) with the abacus at a school meeting where some parents came to 7 advice on using it to help their kids."
Known as the fifth invention of ancient China, Chinese abacus is also 8 as the earliest computer. It helped people solve many math problems in ancient China. 9 you remember the
rules, you can easily use it. Sometimes, just move one bead(算珠),then 10 bead, and you will get the answer. What a magic tool!
So far, the Chinese abacus has been listed as an intangible cultural heritage of human beings (人类非物质文化遗产)for 10 years ever since 2013.

Passage One
(2024重庆南开中学期末)Sui Xin and her friends spent an afternoon roasting nuts(烤坚果) and
fruits around a coal stove (煤炉) while enjoying freshly boiled white tea. This traditional practice of boiling tea has been described in many ancient Chinese art works. ▲ It also gives young people of today a chance (机会) to get to know more about Chinese tea culture.
Boiling tea over a coal stove has always been part of people's lives, especially during cold winters. To promote tea culture among the young, traditional teahouses have turned into new-style ones to meet the tastes of young people. The decoration (装饰) of some stores shows a combination(结合) of traditional Chinese styles and youthful design (设计), such as Heytea's Zhongguancun store in Beijing Tea makers and modern teahouses are also trying to introduce tea culture to more people by creating new drinks and related(相关的) products to highlight local cultures and history. The drinks and products do catch a lot of people's attention,
Sun Xuling, a co-founder of Theatre Tea, said that he is planning on building a tea experience store, which will give customers chances to try different ways of making tea and to learn more about tea culture.

Passage Two
(2024届重庆八中)Have you ever lost something in a hard-to- reach space, like behind a sofa or under the bed Wouldn't it be nice to just squeeze(挤) in and out to get it New robots will soon make this happen.
In a study, scientists from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Carnegie Mellon University in the Us have invented small robots that can quickly change into liquid states(液态).
They melted(熔化) into liquid and managed to get out of a locked cage(笼子) during the tests, shocking the whole scientific community.
According to the website Mashable, the scientists got the idea from sea cucumbers(海参), which can change the softness of their bodies and easily enter any place. The robots in the study were made from a soft metal, which has a low melting point of only 30℃. The scientists firstly place the robot in a magnetic field(磁场). Thanks to the magnetic field, the robot can then be heated into a liquid form, allowing it to enter some hard-to-reach places. After that, by controlling the strength or direction of the magnetic field, the robot can be moved around in a controlled manner.
Hopefully, these liquid robots can be widely used in different fields and will not disappoint(使
失望) us. They can help take out a foreign object from a model human stomach. Scientists can use
them to repair a TV set by squeezing them into hard-to-reach areas inside the Tv set. To prevent
humans from being harmed, these robots can perform dangerous tasks in unsafe environments,
such as cleaning in nuclear power plants(核电厂).
"What we’re showing are just ideas that need to be developed further," said Carmel Majidi of
Carnegie Mellon University. “The goal of our future research is to put these liquid robots to use
in real-life situations sooner. We are very confident(自信的) about achieving this goal."

A. By asking questions B. By telling stories
C. By giving examples. D. By comparing facts.
( )6、[句子排序]The liquid robot works in the order of_____________.
a. It is heated into a liquid form
b. It is put in a magnetic field
c. The magnetic field is used to move robots
d. It enters some hard-to-reach places.
A. a-c-d-b B. b-a-c-d C. a-b-c-d D. d-b-a-c
( )7、[主旨大意] What does the passage mainly want to tell us
A. Why scientists invent liquid robots.
B. How liquid robots work in a magnetic field.
C. Where small liquid robots were invented
D. What liquid robots can do now and in the future,
( ) 8、The passage is written in a/an tone(语气).

Passage Three
(2024届重庆八中) In the past, if doctors wanted to learn about the human body, they don't have many choices: studying from books, or doing research on animals or plants. Well, time has changed.
Now, there’s something new called 3D printing, and it's making big changes in how doctors learn.
Last year, a research team from the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics under the Chinese
Academy of Sciences invented hydrogel(水凝胶), a new material for 3D-printing. As the“ink” for printing, hydrogel has helped the research team create 3D-printed organs(器官) including the brain and heart. People found it hard to print the complex(复杂的) structures inside human organs before. It's also hard to control the organs' hardness(硬度). Luckily, this team has managed to make meaningful progress in these two aspects. ▲ . A doctor who tried these models said that he wouldn't know they were not real if he was not told.
On the other hand, the research team had another problem to solve. Human organs have different textures (质 地 ). For example, our brains are the softest. The team added special materials to the hydrogel to create different textures for each organ. They also printed tiny holes and channels(通道) inside the organs. This will help medical students learn pared with human organs and animal organs, 3D-printed organs are also cheaper and more acceptable for medical students
Apart from doing research, scientists are also working on 3D-printed organs used for organ
transplants(移植). Hydrogel cannot be used because the human body will fight against it. But scientists are looking for other materials that can grow inside the human body. Currently, a bladder(膀胱) has been successfully transplanted using 3D printing because it's one of the simplest

Passage Four
[2022重庆中考A卷]①Since the first man looked up at the flying birds, countless successes have been achieved on the way up to the sky. From the stones thrown into the air to airships of all kinds, pioneers of humans never failed to let their imagination run wild.
②Stories of pioneers go back to centuries ago.

Passage One讲解篇
.(2023重庆南岸区模拟)
Have you ever thought about where the things you use come from If the things you use do not
come from nature, they are man-made. We use millions of man-made things every day.
To begin with, you have to tell what things are natural. Now take a look at the beautiful river covered with ice. The ice on the river is natural while the ice in the fridge is man-made.
How about glue (胶水), pencils and money
Is glue natural or man-made Well, glue used to be natural for many years in the past. People just found some materials sticky (黏稠的). Then they were used as glue. In modern times, many glue companies(公司) put at least four materials together in a new way to produce glue. So glue is changed to be man-made.
Pencils are made mostly from wood, graphite (石墨) and clay that come from nature. The materials are changed by adding other materials and heating to make something new--a pencil!
Think about money! We have paper money made of paper and coins made of metals(金属), so they are natural, right No. Its production is not an easy task (任务). Creating money requires special machines and printing (印刷) skills to make the paper or metals into money
We are living in a world full of man-made things. Is that a good thing or a bad thing You must decide for yourself.

Passage Two (实践篇)
Paperless homework will affect students’ handwriting. A growing number of primary schools in Shanghai are now encouraging “paperless” homework. Instead of writing with a pen, children can finish their homework simply by “writing” on their iPad screens.
Many people welcome the use of this new technology in schools. And it isn’t difficult to understand why digital homework could be the next big thing in education: it reduces waste; makes it easier for teachers to collect homework; and now that everything else is digitalized( 数 字 化 的 ), homework should too.
But there’s an overlooked downside to online homework, as it shows an alarming(令 人担 忧 的)trend: technology is influencing physical handwriting.
In today’s digital age, handwriting is already a weakening skill. Can you remember the last time you used a pen For me, it was when I had to fill out a form at work. To be honest, I couldn’t write quite a few characters and had to type them on my iPhone to remind me of how to write them correctly. I know I’m not alone. There are more saying they share similar embarrassment (尴尬) when asked to write by hand.
In a time when computers, smart phones and keyboards are widely used in the world, is handwriting even important The answer is yes. Handwriting plays an important role in the learning process. Writing a character is more difficult than typing. It requires the body and mind work together actively. So for school-age children, writing not only allows them to memorize characters, but also trains their brains the way typing can’t.
Too many children, lost in technology, lie on a sofa or in bed with their smart phones or iPads — a seldom mentioned side effect of modern technology, which may lead to physical problems later.
All said, I’m not saying that digital homework should be canceled(取消). Digitalization is an unstoppable trend(潮流). But for courses such as Chinese and English language, I hope to see digital homework introduced later into the courses, at least after children have had the ability to write characters and spell words well.

(2024届重庆一中)Have you ever tried ChatGPT, a smart AI chatbor(聊天机器人) tool As it swept the education world last year, artificial intelligence (AI) caused a heated discussion. In this article, we will explain the advantages and disadvantages of AI to 1 you with a better understanding of this subject. So, let's get started.
Avoiding mistakes.
Although nowadays people have much wisdom, they still make mistakes. It's because n 2 of us is perfect. However, AI could serve us much better. Once algorithms(算法) are set up, computers will keep performing the same task over and over again 3 making mistakes.
4 time.
This powerful tool allows you to use your time more effectively(高效地). Type in “A cat
wants to go to space" and ask ChatGPT to write a bedtime s 5 . Just one second later, you’ll get the character called Max, who tried his best to overcome difficulties and flew the rockets to the
moon. Creating a story in this way greatly saves time, or you would have to spend several hours
finding a suitable one
Inviting laziness in humans.
There were many inventions that were first introduced to help us, but we ended up 6 too
much on them. The same is true of AI. It stays 24/7 available, 24 hours and 7 days a week! It
keeps serving you 7 it's turned off by you. As computers become smarter, humans would
like to turn to them when facing problems instead of making full use of their own abilities.
Resulting in losing jobs.
With the increasing influence of AI, there is no doubt that finding a job will be much 8
.For example, many people can use AI to translate the information they need without the help of
others. AI may not take the place of humans, but it can certainly lead to more people losing jobs.

(2023重庆八中第三次月考) If you've ever thought that dogs seem to know when people are stressed, you were right. Scientists carried out a study(进行研究), which showed that dogs can tell the 1 between the smell of a person when they're relaxed and when they’re stressed.
Researchers worked with four dogs. They taught the dogs to use a special smell-testing device
(装置) 2 three openings. The scientists trained the dogs to find the correct opening. Over time, the dogs were given harder and harder smelling jobs. The final goal(目标) was to see 3 they could smell stress in the breath and sweat (汗水) of a person
All day long, our bodies go through changes and produce different chemicals(化学物质).These
chemicals come out in our breath and sweat, changing the way that we s 4 . But it wasn't known if stress could cause changes that could be discovered.
So the researchers collected breath and sweat samples(样本) from 36 different people. They got samples when the people felt 5 , and also when they were under great stress. Then the researchers 6 the samples and a clean piece of cloth(布) to train the dogs to find the stressed smell.
Then the dogs had to d 7 with one challenge. They had three choices: a sample from a calm (平静的) person, a stressed sample from that same person, and a clean piece of cloth. In total(总共), the dogs did 720 of these tests. They correctly identified the stressed sample about 94% of the time.
The results make 8 clear that stress does have a smell that dogs can discover. Scientists say the findings could be especially useful in training service dogs, since their job is to help lower(降

Chopsticks, also called “zhu” in ancient times, have a long history in China. I have used them all my life, but it was only recently that I realized the deep 1 behind them. What can we learn from the“mere”(微不足道的)chopsticks
Aim(目标)
If you've ever tried using them, you know that you can't get what you want by just haphazardly
stabbing(随意乱戳) at the food. To get what you want, you have to aim at it. There's no way you can p 2 up everything in one go. Sometimes, a little bit of focus(关注) leads 3 different results.
4
Eating with chopsticks is not easy. There's no better way to practice than just to look at the delicious food and tell yourself that you can't have any until you can use chopsticks to get it. In real life, how will you learn to practice You can learn from books about what you want. However, they will only be in books 5 you try to practice doing them. So don't just watch o 6 eat and try to practice using chopsticks by yourself.
Slowing Down
A common health suggestion is to try to eat with chopsticks slowly. Because it slows you down and allows your stomach to tell your brain you're 7 before you eat too much. Eating with chopsticks is slow. Sometimes we need to slow down and take things one step at a time, 8 that we have time to think that we're full and that we don't have to keep full speed through life. Sometimes it's nice to enjoy each morsel(小事) of life as it comes.

Passage Four(极限篇)
Winston, a physics teacher, came into the classroom one morning. “Morning, my dears. I have a question for you today. Why do we have brakes (刹车) in our car ”
One student got up and replied, “Sir, to stop the car.” ____1____ one replied, “To reduce and control the speed of the car.” A third one said, “Not to hit other cars.”
Soon, all the students began to give similar answers. Being unhappy with them, the teacher decided to answer the question himself. He said, “I look at it in a ____2____ way—the brakes in the car help us to make it run faster.”
Hearing this, all the students in the classroom kept silent because no one had imagined this answer. The teacher continued, “Here’s one more truth. ____3____ our car has no brakes, we may not have the courage to drive the car as fast as we can and reach our destination (目的地) safely in time.”
All students were surprised at ____4____ the teacher said. They never thought about brakes in the car this way.
The teacher smiled and continued, “Similarly, there are many such brakes in our life, such as the directions our parents need us to follow, the effort our teachers ask us to put in, or the progress we require ourselves to ____5____ in life.”
Most of us have experienced one or two of those difficult situations and thought they were like brakes to stop our pace (脚步). But what if we ____6___ them as our helpers With the help of these brakes, we are able to take risks and make sure of our safety at the same time. As everyone can imagine, life is not always about moving on. Sometimes we have to stop to have a rest, or even take one step ____7____, so that we can run faster.
It is because of such difficult situations that we are able to reach where we are today. When we make good ____8____ of these brakes, they are sure not to push us back or bind (约束) us, but to help us move forward faster than before, so that we can reach our destination quickly and safely.
