Food should never stay out at room temperature for more than two hours. Leftovers can become breeding grounds (滋生地) for dangerous bacteria if they’re left out too long and can make people sick.
“It is OK to leave the food cooling outside before you hit the two-hour mark,” says Serena Poon, nutritionist of Le Cordon Bleu’s Grand Diploma training program. “In fact, the sooner you can get your leftovers in the fridge, the better.”

Take a look at the question below and see whether you can figure out the answer: If you’re running a race and you pass the person in second place, what place are you in
The quiz is deceivingly simple, but there is a little twist. The reason for this question design is not to cheat people, but to figure out natural differences in their thinking styles. More specifically, the test aims to establish whether the quizzer is more of a fast, intuitive thinker or a slow, reflective thinker.
After reading the question, an intuitive answer is likely to be: Since only one place is better than second place, if passing the person in second place, surely you’d be first. In comparison, a slower, more reflective thinker might realize that by passing the person in second place, one person is still in front of you, making you the runner-up.
System 1 is a fast and intuitive approach, which is often ruled by emotional responses, habits or instincts. It has the advantage of creating fast solutions but typically tends to make common reasoning errors. System 2 describes a slow and careful approach, which includes more measured reflection on different choices. It has the advantage of leading to more purposeful results but is also connected with the cost of higher mental effort.
The test question intended to measure people’s preferences of one thinking style over the other. However, in fact, most people use a mixture of System 1 and System 2 approaches, with the context determining which system is more influential. The relative importance of a task and the amount of time available to make a choice can both influence how you think.
With this in mind, we may have to look back on our first question. Rather than trying to identify the better thinking style, the challenge appears to be one of finding balance. Knowing when to think fast and when to think slow might be the real game changer for lifting productivity and success.
8. What does the underlined word “deceivingly” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Seemingly. B. Extremely.
C. Heavily. D. Strangely.
9. What do we know about reflective thinkers
A. They are worse at running races.
B They are more likely to make mistakes.
C. They are easily influenced by emotions.
D. They often think twice about everything.
10. What can be inferred from paragraph 5
A. It’s difficult to change one’s thinking style.
B. Reflective thinking outweighs intuitive thinking.
C. One’s thinking style is determined by certain factors.
D. People usually prefer one thinking style to the other.
11. What may be the key to success according to the text
A. Figuring out the better thinking style.
B. Changing the game rules to your advantage.
C. Striking a balance between work and play.
D. Adapting the thinking style to the situation.
D
Artificial intelligence(AI) models have long surpassed (超出) just creating text responses and images. Now, with only one sentence, OpenAI’s latest text-to-video model, Sora, can turn your words into video with good visual quality while completely following your content instructions (指令).
Sora is said to be better than many other existing models with similar functions. The AI model can create videos at suitable aspect ratios (屏幕高宽比) for different devices. It also lets users quickly test out content in lower quality before making the high-quality version, which helps speed up output according to the user’s requests.
Apart from this, its ability to present videos in a realistic and smooth manner is surprising. Sora can create detailed scenes with several characters, specific types of motion, and accurate (准确的) subject and background details. Beyond the user’s requests, it also understands how these elements exist in the real world. For example, reflections in the water change as a woman walks by.
However, the current model isn’t perfect. It may have trouble accurately showing how things move in a complicated (复杂的) scene and might not get how one action leads to another. For example, if someone eats part of a cookie in a Sora-made video, the cookie might not look like it’s been bitten into. The model might mix up directions and find it hard to describe events in the right order. One possible reason is that Sora learns each basic unit of a video, known as a spacetime patch (时空补丁), independently.
Sora is still in the testing stage of development. OpenAI is now inviting network security professionals to make random attacks on Sora’s system in order to test the model’s possible weaknesses and risks. Sora has also been open to some visual artists, designers and filmmakers. Their feedback will help OpenAI to improve the model to better serve creative professionals.
12. What is the main focus of paragraph 2 and 3
A. Sora’s strengths. B. Sora’s weaknesses.
C. Sora’s development. D. Sora’s popularity.
13. Why does the author provide the example in paragraph 4
A. To show Sora’s safety problems. B. To show Sora’s existing weaknesses.
C. To show Sora’s perfect performance. D. To explain the concept of a spacetime patch.
14. What can we know about Sora up to now
A. It has experienced testing and improvement.
B. It has enjoyed great popularity.
C. It has made random attacks.
D. It has been applied in various industries.
15 What’s the best title for the text
A. Sora: A perfect text-to-video AI model B. Sora: Surpass existing ChatGPT
C. Sora: Known as a spacetime patch D. Sora: Lead the way in creating videos

15. What’s the best title for the text
A. Sora: A perfect text-to-video AI model B. Sora: Surpass existing ChatGPT
C. Sora: Known as a spacetime patch D. Sora: Lead the way in creating videos
【答案】12. A 13. B 14. A 15. D

【答案】Dear Chris,
Glad to hear from you again. In your last letter, you asked me about our school clubs. It so happened that it was the right time for the clubs to take in new members. Based on my own interest, I have studied all the clubs and chose one favorite. Now let me introduce our school clubs first. There are many varieties of school clubs like debate club, music club, stage club and badminton club to satisfy our needs and interest. We often meet regularly on Tuesday afternoon, when we will have no other classes. That will be the most unforgettable time, I think.
As for me, I prefer music club. You know I have learnt piano for many years. And I want to learn more about music from others. What’s more, I can make more friends sharing the same interest with me. Life in senior high school is quite different. We are so busy every day. Therefore, that will be a golden opportunity for us students to relax ourselves.
Would you like to say something about your school clubs
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours,
Li Jin
