The Jishou Art Museum is located in the city of Jishou, the regional capital of Xiangxi (western Hunan). It is built in the center of the old town. A river called Wanrong runs through the middle of Jishou, which makes the most central location for the art museum over the water course and the art museum then doubles as a pedestrian (行人) bridge naturally. People in Jishou would not only make a special trip to see art but also encounter art on their way to work, to school, or to shop.
Typical contemporary cultural institutions in China, such as museums and theaters, are treated as freestanding monuments, far away from the communities. In Jishou, the art museum is inserted (嵌入) into the existing urban framework, which is built up with row buildings along the Wanrong River such as house shops, restaurants and small hotels, often with owners living upstairs.
Covered bridge has a long tradition in this mountainous region of China and is named Fengyu Qiao, which is not only used for crossing river or valley but a public space where travellers take a rest and vendors (小贩) set up stands. The design creates a contemporary interpretation of the age-honored building type. It introduced art as a new program on a covered bridge while maintaining pedestrian traffic and stop.
The art museum is composed of two bridges, one on the top of the other. The lower level is an open steel structure that resembles a roofed street for pedestrians and allows the flow of floods ; the upper level is a concrete arch with a painting gallery inside. In between the two bridges is the art museum’s main hall for temporary exhibitions. The entrance hall, administrative office, shop, and tearoom, are situated in the two bridgeheads at either end. People can enter the museum from either side of the river.
Jishou Art Museum is the outcome of artist Mr. Huang Yongyu’s initiation and donation, completed in April 2019 and had its opening exhibition in the summer.
4. What distinguishes the Jishou Art Museum from typical cultural institutions
A. It is close to the communities. B. It is separated from the citizens.
C. It is a kind of row buildings. D. It is a freestanding monument.

You might be abusing your battery, especially if you have a habit of leaving the screen on, shutting down apps or throwing it in your bag on a particularly freezing morning. Smartphones are designed to keep apps open in the background. Forcibly closing them may satisfy that little part of your brain that wants to keep things neat and tidy, but because it takes more juice to start an app fresh than to wake it up, you’re beating up on your battery every time you do it. Stop!
Avoid letting the temperature of your battery powered device dip below 32 degrees Fahrenheit or rocket above 95 degrees. In either case, damage can occur. It will lower-in some cases, dramatically—the life of your battery.
Petri Hayrynen, senior product marketing manager of Global Smart Devices at HMD Global, said that charging your phone to 100% may seem like a good idea, but if you’re using a high voltage (高电压的) charger, it can put a pressure on your battery. Instead, he said to pull the plug at 80%-90% for best usage and choose to charge often.
“Old nickel (镍) batteries had a memory effect which meant that if you didn’t charge them from 1-100%, they started to ‘forget’ their maximum capacity. But it is quite different today. As for the modern-day lithium (锂) batteries, the most stress is to put on the battery when charging or discharging them fully; both reduce the charging cycles and overall battery life cycle,” Hayrynen said. He explained that people should do “more fast top-ups during the day,” instead of charging smartphones overnight.
Try to keep the battery above 30% or so, letting it discharge occasionally to calibrate the sensors. That will keep your battery healthier and longer. Besides, to get the absolute fastest charge, toggle on Airplane Mode after plugging it in.
8. Why should you avoid shutting down apps too often
A. To save your battery.
B. To keep things organized.
C. To wake them up more easily.
D. To make them run in the background.
9. To what degree should you charge your battery according to the passage
A. 100%. B. 80%-90%. C. 70%. D. 30%.
10. Which of the following may Hayrynen agree with
A. A high-voltage charger is dangerous.
B. Nickel batteries are better than lithium ones.
C. Charging smartphones overnight is recommended.
D. Discharging batteries fully causes damage.
11. What is the most suitable title for the text
A. Benefits of Lithium Batteries
B. Reasons for Battery Life Reduction
C. Dos and Don’ts for Battery Charging
D. Great Revolution it Smartphone Batteries

“Old nickel (镍) batteries had a memory effect, which meant that if you didn’t charge them from 1-100%, they started to ‘forget’ their maximum capacity.
