Many large cities have a subway system (地铁系统). The subway is called tube in London. In San Francisco, it is called BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit). Some subway systems, like Chicago's, are quite old. It opened in 1897. Others are more recent. For example, Mexico City's subway started in 1969.

62-year-old Du Dejian comes from Zhangfang Village of Yongji, Shanxi. 40 years ago, Du found the villagers were short of knowledge(知识) of farming. To help them, Du decided to open a library in his village.
Du turned one of his rooms into a library. All he had in the library were an old table and four benches(长凳). With the help of his parents and his sister, Du bought some books and newspapers on farming. On January 1st, 1981, Du's family library opened.
The villagers could use the library for free. But few people went there to read. “At that time, people just trusted(相信) their own experience(经验). They thought books had no use,” said Du. Then he started to take books to the villagers' homes and told them that reading books was useful for farming. Slowly, more and more people went to Du's library.
