Gardening connects people. When you are gardening, you are outdoors. So it is a perfect chance to meet and spend time with your neighbors. Most people love to talk about their hobbies, and gardeners are no different. They usually enjoy showing people what they are growing. And most enjoy sharing advice and stories about their gardens almost as much as sharing flowers and vegetables from their gardens.
Gardening is a great activity for children. It gets them outdoors and off computers, televisions and cellphones. Gardening is also a great teacher. It can teach a child about where food comes from and healthy eating. It also helps them to understand that the natural resources(资源) are not inexhaustible and the importance of using them carefully.
Then, when you garden, you must move around. All the different movements needed for gardening, like bending and lifting, work small muscles (肌肉) in the body. And you can easily get good exercise when you are digging holes or pulling grass.

They found that gardening could lower the risk of future dementia(痴呆) by 36%. Gardening requires people to do many repeated actions, such as picking off dying flowers. As new students in a new era, we need to sweep away all the uncivilized phenomena in our school.
Some students take it for granted to waste food. Besides, in the library, some students speak or talk aloud, disturbing and annoying others(非谓语动词短语作状语). Little as the matters seem to be(让步状语从句的倒装结构), we cannot afford to overlook the serious consequences they will bring(省略了关系词的定语从句). So I suggest the school post more noticeable slogans and make relevant rules to help students get rid of those uncivilized behaviors(宾语从句的虚拟语气).
I sincerely hope that we can become a better person to make contributions to the society.

一、阅读理解
1. In our increasingly fast-paced, technology-driven world, most adults do not get the 8—10 hours of sleep every night. Things are even worse for those with young children. A recent study showed that 86% of parents in the UK complained of tiredness and about 26% got less than 5 hours of sleep every night. To give tired parents a little relaxation from their tight schedules, David Lloyd Clubs, a chain of gyms and fitness centers in Europe, has introduced a napping(小憩) class!
As the name suggests, the hour-long group class, described as a way to "refresh the mind, improve moods, and even burn the odd calories (卡路里)", does not involve any hard exercise. Instead, the members are guided through 15 minutes of light stretching(伸展) to help them relax. Then, they are encouraged to lie under the blankets of a comfortable bed, cover their eyes with an eye mask, and take a nap for 45 minutes. With music playing in the background and the room set to the perfect temperature, they can be assured of the best sleep. The class is now being offered at just one place. If popular, it will be expanded(延伸) to other David Lloyd Clubs.
Do you know the good points of naps A study conducted by Pennsylvania's Allegheny College found that midday naps not only help participants feel well-rested, but also enable them to deal with stress better. A follow-up study carried out at the University of California at Berkeley concluded that a 45-minute nap in the middle of the day helps to improve the learning abilities. The good news is that you do not have to make a trip to the U. K. to join this latest exercise fashion. You can get involved with the comfort of your own bed. So, go ahead and encourage your entire family to try a napping class.

C.There should be more gym classes. D.Naps contribute to your good health.

A.The class member. B.The trainer.
C.The napping class. D.The organiser.
3.What is the passage
A.An introduction. B.An advertisement.C.AC.A medical report. D.A school report.
2. Do you want to live a happier, less stressful life Try laughing for no reason at all. That's how thousands of people start their day at Laughter Clubs around the world, and many doctors now think that having a good laugh might be one of the best ways to stay healthy.
The first Laughter Club was started in Mumbai, India, in 1995 by Dr Madan Katana. "Young children laugh about 300 times a day. Adults laugh between 7 and 15 times a day," says Dr Kataria. "Everyone's naturally good at laughing; it's the universal language. We want people to feel happy with their lives." There are now more than 500 Laughter Clubs in India and over 1,300 worldwide.
Many doctors are also interested in the effects of laughter on our health. According to a 5-year study in the body, laughter improves our health against illness by about 40%.
So, what happens at a Laughter Club I went along to my nearest club in South London to find out. I was quite nervous at the beginning of the class; to be honest, I wasn't interested in laughing with a group of strangers, and I was worried about looking stupid. Our laughter teacher told us to clap our hands and say "ho ho ho, ha ha ha," while looking at each other. However, our bodies can't tell the difference between fake laughter and real laughter, so they still produce the same healthy effects.
Surprisingly, it works! After ten minutes everybody in the room was laughing for real and some people just couldn't stop! At the end of the class I was surprised by how relaxed and comfortable I felt. So if you're under stress, then start laughing. You might be very pleased with the results!
1.In which country was the first Laughter Club started
A.Britain. B.America. C.Australia. D.India.

B.40% of the people in Laughter Clubs are good friends.
C.Adults laugh more often than children in a day.
D.Laughing is the best way to prevent illness.
3. A while back I caught a news report on something called "couch surfing" and the network of trusting souls who make this phenomenon possible. They offer to put up travellers free of charge and help them on their ways. At first, it sounded unbelievable. I mean, inviting strangers into one's home for one or two nights Give me a break.
However, I was intrigued. I decided to investigate. The only way to truly learn about this phenomenon was to dive in. So I planned a trip to Finland, a country I've always wanted to explore. I would couch surf at every stop there.
If ever any anxiety existed when stepping into the unknown, it disappeared when my first host met me at the train station. Ari looked like my idea of a typical Finn: tall and blue-eyed. Finns were also supposed to be famously reserved (寡言的). Ari was anything but. He was a live wire, giving me an enthusiastic welcome and hiking with me to his apartment, where he showed me the sleeper sofa, served me tea, and engaged me in lively conversation. He also handed me a key to come and go as I pleased.
If this was what couch surfing was all about—trust and friendship—then I had got off to a good start. As I boarded my next train to continue my journey, I began to think about this couch-surfing idea. What urged these people to open their homes to strangers I concluded that there was a desire to lend a hand to like-minded folks who might enrich their own lives.
Seven cities in 14 days. Seven hosts. Seven new friends. If couch surfing taught me anything, it's this: Most people are good and generous. Where will couch surfing take me next Who knows But I can't wait to find out.
1. Which of the following best explains "intrigued" underlined in the second paragraph

I was said to be the worst student in my class and my family thought I was hopeless. I had to repeat the sixth grade. At that time a new teacher, Miss Sadia, came to our school.
One day after class, she noticed that I was staying alone during the lunch break. She came to me and began to talk to me. It was just a normal conversation. After that day, she gave me much attention and it made me feel special. I started to go all out because she gave me the feeling that someone believed me, and my grades started to improve in her subject.
Months later, she moved into a house near my home. We would walk home together after school. Her constant support helped me, especially in my studies, as I knew she would check my grades both in her subject and the other subjects. I finally came second in my class.
Then, after the sixth grade, she started to drift apart but still kept a check on me. By the time I was in the seventh grade, she hardly spoke to me, but by then I had become the best in my class. When I left school, I was out of touch with her as she never answered the phone when I called her.
Then I graduated and went to a good university. One fine day, our paths crossed again. I met her at a wedding. I could not help asking her, "Why did you stop talking to me "
"You are a clever boy. I wanted you to be a tree standing on your own roots, not depending on others. Now here you are and I feel proud of you. You are your inspiration and do not need to look fora shoulder," she said. I could not say anything, but I smiled. I'll always thank her.

一、阅读理解
1. In high school I was very shy, content to hang around with my small group of friends and to concentrate on my courses. I was quickly labeled a "brain". I did so well that by the end of my senior year I had perfect grades and enough college credits to give up an entire quarter of coursework.
But in early June of the senior year, the principal called me into his office. He asked me to give a speech at graduation. I looked at him in surprise, my heart thumping. This was the reward for my hard work I murmured (低语) something and fled the office, blaming myself for staying away from physics, a subject sure to have broken up my perfect record.
I finally agreed to a compromise (妥协). I would share the honor with five other students. I agreed to introduce my friend Judy, who would then give her own, full-length speech.
Graduation day soon arrived. I'd been practicing my speech for days, and I had it memorized. The first half hour of the ceremony passed in a blur(模糊的记忆), and then my moment came. My name was announced. I managed to reach the stage without falling down. I faced my classmates. My voice trembled a little, but mostly it was clear and strong. Within seconds, I was done and headed back to my seat. I accomplished something I'd never dreamed of—I spoke in front of hundreds of people.
Although I didn't realize it at the time, the successful completion of that speech gave me the confidence to take part in classes at college, to give verbal(口头的) reports, and to eventually break free of my shyness. I never would have chosen to give a speech at graduation—or ever. But I'm glad I did. I no longer hesitate when I'm faced with the prospect of doing something I fear. I know it may very well turn out to be one of my shining moments.

2. The effects of coffee consumption on health have long been a subject of conflict and uncertainty. Since the 1980s, some have spoken out against coffee as it is harmful to health, while others have welcomed coffee for its supposed benefits to health.
According to a scientific report, mild coffee consumption, three to five cups per day, can be taken as a healthy dietary pattern, along with other healthful behaviours. The report also says that coffee consumption helps reduce the risk of heart disease and it protects against Parkinson's disease.
According to Dr Donald Hensrud of Mayo Clinic, high consumption of coffee has health risks. Dr Hensrud mentions the dangers of high coffee consumption for people with a certain illness that slows the breakdown of caffeine in the body. Some studies say that drinking two or more cups of coffee daily can actually increase the risk of heart disease in these people.
According to conclusions from a recent study led by Dr Gregory Marcus, a doctor from the University of California, San Francisco, daily moderate consumption of coffee, less than 4 cups, is not associated with these issues.
Until the scientific community reaches a general agreement on the effects of coffee consumption on human health, it will be up to the individual to decide whether the benefits of drinking coffee are greater than the risks.
