一、教材内容
本课时是新教材北师大版(三起)(2024)小学英语三年级上册Unit 4《Friends》的Lesson 2。延续“朋友”这一主题,进一步拓展关于朋友的外貌、性格和爱好等方面的描述。教材内容包括更多描述性格和爱好的词汇,如friendly(友好的)、quiet(安静的)、cute(可爱的)、like to play games(喜欢玩游戏)、like to read books(喜欢读书)等。通过对话、图片和活动等形式,引导学生学习如何更全面地介绍自己的朋友。

1. Sing a song
T: Let's start our class with a song. Do you remember the song "Friends" Let's sing it together.

2. Review
T: Great! You sing very well. Now, let's review some words we learned in the last lesson. Look at the pictures on the screen. What are they (Show pictures of people with different appearances)

T: Very good! And how do we use these words to describe our friends For example, if I want to describe my friend Tom, who is very tall and a little fat, what can I say
Ss: This is my friend, Tom. He is tall and fat.
T: Excellent! Now, I'll ask some students to come to the front and describe their friends in the pictures using the sentences we learned. (Ask several students to come to the front and describe the pictures, giving them praise and encouragement)

1. Teach the new words "friendly" and "quiet"

T: Look at the screen. Here is a picture of two children. They are smiling and playing together happily. They are very friendly to each other. (Point to the picture and say "friendly", emphasizing the pronunciation) Can you say "friendly"
Ss: Friendly.
T: Great! Now, let's do an action to show "friendly". Shake hands with your partner and smile at each other. This is "friendly". (The students do the action and say the word together)
T: (Show some other pictures of people helping each other or playing together happily) Look at these pictures. They are all showing friendship. They are very friendly. Can you use "friendly" to describe them

Quiet
T: Now, look at this picture. There is a girl sitting quietly and reading a book. She is very quiet. (Point to the girl in the picture and say "quiet", pronouncing it clearly and slowly) Say "quiet".
Ss: Quiet.
T: Good. Let's be quiet like her. Close your mouth and sit still. This is "quiet". (The students do the action and experience the meaning of the word)
T: (Show a picture of a classroom when the students are having a test. Everyone is quiet and concentrating on their papers) Look at this picture. What are the students doing Are they quiet

2. Teach the new word "cute"
T: Look at this picture. It's a picture of a little baby. The baby is smiling and has big eyes. It's so cute. (Show a picture of a cute baby and say "cute", making a cute expression myself) Can you say "cute"

T: Very good! Now, look around the classroom. Can you find something or someone cute

3. Teach the phrases "like to play games" and "like to read books"

4. Practice the new words and phrases
Game 1: "Quick response"

1. Listen to the dialogue

B: Hi, Amy. Nice to meet you.
C: Nice to meet you too, Mike.
B: Amy, you look very cute. And you are friendly too.
C: Thank you. Mike, I heard that you like to read books. Is that true
B: Yes, I like to read books very much. What about you, Amy
C: I like to play games. I think it's very fun.
2. Read the dialogue
T: Now, let's read the dialogue together. Follow me, please. (Read the dialogue sentence by sentence with the students, paying attention to the pronunciation, intonation, and stress)

3. Explain the dialogue
T: Let's look at the dialogue again. We have learned some new ways to describe our friends. For example, "You look very cute. And you are friendly too." We can use these words to describe a friend's appearance and personality. And when we talk about a friend's hobbies, we can say "I like to...". Like Mike likes to read books, and Amy likes to play games. Now, let's practice these sentences with your partners. You can talk about your own hobbies or your friends' hobbies.

4. Role-play

1. Write a short passage about your best friend, using at least five sentences to describe his/her appearance, personality, and hobbies.
2. Make a mini-book about your friends. On each page, you can draw a picture of a friend and write a few sentences to describe him/her. You can share this mini-book with your classmates next class.
3. Interview three of your classmates and ask them about their friends. Write down their answers and report to the class next time. You can use the questions like "What does your friend look like ", "What is your friend's personality ", and "What does your friend like to do ".
