In today’s information age, it’s nearly impossible to avoid using social media. According to USA Today, even American universities are increasingly using social media as a learning tool. Their goal is to teach students how to use social media professionally.
Jade Johnson is taking an upper-level advertising course at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. For the class, he has had to organize and promote a contest via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, channels that are commonly used by advertising firms.
“A lot of times students prefer not to use certain social media, but are forced because of the class,” says Jade.
Some students may be unwilling to create an account, but Jade says that it was helpful because social media skills mean better job opportunities in today’s world.
More college classes are appearing that are designed specially to teach students about social media, offering them a different look into something they may use on a daily basis.
Jenna Kapsis, a senior at William Paterson University, was required to post two Tweets on Twitter and one update on Facebook per week in her Digital and Social Media Communication class. The course had a specific Facebook page where students would create discussion groups and post links.
“Some of the topics included social media manners, online marketing and current events,” Kapsis says.
As technology continues to develop, colleges and universities will likely continue to find ways to combine it into their teaching. Whether it’s to create discussion groups, carry out plans, or communicate with students, professors are ensuring that students can see the potential(潜力,潜能)of mastering social media platforms.
28. According to Jade Johnson, what’s the benefit of social media skills
A. Increasing the possibility of finding good jobs.
B. Bettering the communication between teachers and students.
C. Improving students’ learning efficiency.
D. Offering students a different look into things.

C. Creating discussion groups. D. Communicating with students.
30. Why do the US university focus on the promotion of social media skills
A. Because it can strengthen the universities’ competitiveness.
B. Because it will improve the universities’ teaching quality.
C. Because it will help professors carry out researches more easily.
D. Because it will be of great importance in this high-tech society.
31. Which of the following is true according to the passage
A Most students are unwilling to use social media.
B. Social media skills are hard for students to master.
C. Social media skills have been used in some courses.
D. The learning of social media skills is a heavy burden for students.
D
Some students get so nervous before a test. They do poorly even if they know the material. Sian Beilock, a professor at the University of Chicago in Illinois, has studied these highly anxious test-takers. The students start worrying about the results. And when they worry, it actually uses up attention and memory resources (资源).
Professor Beilock and another researcher, Gerardo Ramirez, have developed a possible solution. Just before an exam, highly anxious test-takers spend ten minutes writing about their worries about the test.
The researchers tested the idea on a group of twenty anxious college students. They gave them two short maths tests. After the first one they asked the students to either sit quietly or write about their feelings about the upcoming second test.
Professor Beilock says those who sat quietly scored an average of J2% worse on the second test. But the students who had written about their fears improved their performance by an average of 5%. Next the researchers used younger students in a biology class. They told them before final exams cither to write about their feelings or to think about things unrelated to the test. Professor Beilock says highly anxious students who did the writing got an average grade of B+, compared to a B- for those who did not.
“What we showed is that for students who are highly test-anxious, who’d done our writing intervention (干预), all of a sudden there was no relationship between test anxiety and performance. They were performing just as well as their classmates who don’t normally get nervous in these tests.”
But what if students do not have a chance to write about their fears immediately before an exam Professor Beilock says students can try it themselves at home or in the library and still improve their performance.
32. What may the students start worrying about before an exam
A. Whether they can pass the exams.
B. What other students do during the test.
C. Whether they have remembered the materials.
D. What kind of problems they will meet on the test paper.
33. What is the solution developed by researchers
A. Asking the students to ignore the test.
B. Asking the students to focus on the test.
C. Asking the students to sit quietly before the test.
D. Asking the students to write about their worries before the test.
34. According to Professor Beilock, those who thought about things unrelated to the test ________.
A. became less nervous before the test
B. were better at controlling their feelings
C. did worse than those who wrote about their feelings
D. did better than those who wrote about their feelings
35. What can be learned from the last paragraph
A. Writing about our worries before an exam can work a bit
B. We can only write about our worries right before an exam.
C. The best place to write about our worries is in the test room.

I grew up in a poor family with six brothers, three sisters, my father and mother. We had little money and few goods, but plenty of love and attention. I was happy and energetic. I understood that no matter how poor a person was, he could still afford a dream.
My dream was athletics. By the time I was sixteen, I could throw a ninety-mile-per-hour fastball and hit anything moving on the football field. And I was so lucky that my high-school coach was Ollie Jarvis, who not only believed in me, but often told me “Dream is priceless”. However, when I was about to get off the ground, one particular incident happened, which almost ruined my long-held dream.
It was the summer holiday in senior two and a friend recommended me for a summer job. I was offered $ 12.25 per pared with the average $3.5, that was a big sum. I was so excited, because this meant a chance for money in my pocket, certainly money for a new bike and new clothes, and the start of savings for a house for my mother. The prospect(前景)of the job was inviting, and I wanted to jump at the opportunity.
Then I realized I would have to give up summer baseball training to handle the work schedule. I didn't dare to tell my coach, I thought of the advice my mother often gave me when I lacked courage, "If you make your bed, you have to lie in it." I decided to talk to my coach in person. After all, my dream of buying my mom a house and having money in my pocket was worth facing his disappointment to me.

I gathered my courage and knocked at his door.

That question reminded me of what my coach used to say.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 I gathered my courage and knocked at his door. As expected, his face turned purple immediately. He glared at me like a bull. "You have your whole life to work," he said, “but your playing days are limited. You can't afford to waste them." I stood before him with my head down. “How much will you be paid, son ” He demanded. "$12.25 per hour.” “Well," he shrugged. “Is $12.25 an hour the price of a dream ”
That question reminded me of what my coach used to say. Yes, dream is priceless. It's stupid to earn pocket money at the expense of my dream. I held my head high and said firmly, “Sorry, Mr. Jarvis. I know what to do next." My coach smiled with great satisfaction. That summer I dedicated myself to baseball training. And one year later, I obtained a baseball scholarship to the University. I knew I would soon buy my mum a house. Thankfully, I made a right choice. Without Mr. Jarvis, I would never know I could afford a dream.
