A large number of India’s urban (城区的) poor kids receive little or no education. Even if they enter a formal school, most of them cannot finish their education. Door Step School (DSS) aims to bridge the huge gap between these kids and education.
True to its name, Door Step School sets up a school right at the doorstep of kids who can’t get formal education due to a variety of reasons.
The team at DSS follows a direct model - they set up a classroom in any area, a footpath, construction site, or underpass, where they foresee the greatest need. They look for proper locations, and after making sure that enough resources are in place, they accept students in the area. DSS provides lessons of different levels. The organization even tries to provide classes in the local language, or whatever the students choose.
Another interesting project of DSS is a school on wheels. It uses a bus that has been changed into a classroom, which holds about 25 kids at a time.
Since it was started in 1988, Door Step School has spread from Mumbai to the neighbouring city of Pune in Maharashtra, covering a larger area and number of kids. Now DSS has a team of more than 1,000 volunteers and teachers who change more than 70,000 lives each year.
DSS doesn’t end at kids. The organisation educates parents on the importance of sending their kids to school. Its efforts have made education accessible to thousands of students in the last two decades. Their belief in education for all has not only changed children’s lives but also continued the fight against one of the biggest problems India faces. All children have the right to an education, and DSS is providing just that.
8. Why is the organization called “Door Step School”
A. It is different from formal schools.
B. It is usually built near formal schools.
C. It sets up schools in areas with large populations.
D. It provides education wherever children can easily go.
9. What can we learn about the classrooms of “Door Step School”
A. They are the same as the classrooms in formal schools.
B. They include whatever a classroom can provide.
C. They have no fixed location.
D. Every classroom can hold about 25 kids at a time.
10. What does the underlined word “accessible” in paragraph 6 mean
A Changeable. B. Possible. C. Acceptable. D. Affordable.
11. What is Paragraph 5 mainly about
A. The development of Door Step School. B. The building of Door Step School.
C. The management of Door Step School. D. The future of Door Step School.

A recent study suggests that when it comes to the benefits of reading, just doing it matters more than the content. Researchers have found that reading novels helps the brain development in understanding others and imagining the world. They also have found that people who spend a few hours per week reading books live longer than those who don’t read.
But how to build a habit of reading Like any habit, the trick is in figuring out what suits you. The hardest-part about reading is actually picking up a book. You have to sit down, pick up a book and start reading. “I always have a book next to wherever I put my phone,” My friend Jimmy once told me. “So if I want to check my phone, I physically can see the book there. Nine times out of ten. I end up reading the book instead of using my phone for nothing.”
Another challenge is time, and in that case, audio-books (有声书) can be a good choice. Audio-books are great for filling the mind while you’re on the way to work, washing dishes or working out at the gym.
If you’re still stuck on the way to developing a reading habit, the best way is to revisit your old favorite books to get your youthful reading pleasure. You should free yourself from the opinion that only important or educational books are worth reading. There’s no shame in rereading the books that made you fall in love with reading in the first place. Restarting the practice of reading is a little like picking up painting. It takes some work to get into the best state, but once you begin the results are beautiful and satisfying.
12. What’s the function of paragraph 1
A. To make a prediction B. To give an example.
C. To introduce a topic. D. To provide background information
13. What is the most difficult part in forming the reading habit
A. Getting reading skills. B. Finding a great book.
C. Having limited time. D. Getting reading started.
14. What is the advantage of audio-books according to the text
A. They are time saving. B. They provide more fun.
C. They help brain development. D. They offer more book choices.
15. Why is rereading old favourite books a good idea
A. It is of great convenience. B. It helps restart reading.
C. It helps you pick up painting. D. It can increase your patience.

Although he had tried to exchange ideas with his classmates, he was afraid of being laughed at. Shy and reserved (内向的), Jack had always felt like an outsider, never quite fitting in.
Fortunately, Mary, Jack’s science teacher in the new school, immediately noticed Jack and made up her mind to lend a hand. She used different methods to help Jack. Whenever Jack got into trouble in his speech, the warm-hearted and caring woman would wait patiently and smile at him encouragingly. Whenever possible, she was ready to praise his efforts and said to him, “You are so great!” The teacher hoped that such encouragement would make Jack feel more confident in overcoming his speech problem.
Few days later, Mary announced that each student should present (展示) their answer to a problem in front of the class, in their unique way. Jack’s heart sank and the familiar fear and anxiety came back again. He kept thinking how he could possibly stand before his classmates to explain his answer clearly and whether his classmates would laugh at his speech problem again. He sat there, watching his classmates walk up to the front one by one. Most of them went through their presentation smoothly and went back to their seats with big smiles. However, Jack felt anxious while waiting for his turn.

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Jack, who had just moved with his parents to a new town, was new to Emerson School. But he was very worried about his speech problem that had often brought about laughter from his former classmates.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

【答案】Finally, he heard Mary call his name and was invited to the front. Jack stood up slowly and edged towards the front, his hands trembling. His classmates looked on, ready to see what was in store for Jack. He stood there tongue-tied with his face turning pale. When he looked around the classroom, Mary was just smiling at him encouragingly. So Jack took a deep breath and concentrated on his presentation. Words flowed from his lips, despite some pauses and repetitions. He even added gestures to better express himself. It seemed that confidence had found him.
When Jack finished his presentation, everyone smiled and cheered for him. The applause washed over Jack, and with it came a wave of confidence. His grateful eyes met Mary’s, her smile now a symbol of his journey to self-assurance. No longer defined by being shy and reserved, Jack felt a sense of belonging. Where once his shyness had cast a shadow over his identity, it was now just another detail of who he was-a young man with the heart of a lion, fearless of the roar of his challenges.
