音节按读音可分为 open syllable (开音节)和 closed syllable (闭音节)：
1.开音节：以元音字母结尾的音节，分为绝对开音节和相对开音节。
（1）绝对开音节：以一个元音字母结尾(后面没有辅音字母)。
如：we, me, hi, no, go
（2）相对开音节：一个元音字母 + 一个辅音字母（r除外）+
一个不发音的e结尾。
如：take, these, like, nose, huge, use
注：5个元音字母Aa, Ee, Ii, Oo, Uu在开音节中发字母本身音。
2. 闭音节：元音字母后面有辅音字母（r除外）构成的音节。
如：cat, desk, big, not, but
注：5个元音字母Aa, Ee, Ii, Oo, Uu在闭音节中发相应的短元音。
