Have you ever seen lions dancing in the streets The lions dance to the beat of a drum. Of course, they are not real lions. They are dancers in lion costumes(服装). Lion dancing first started in China centuries ago. It is meant to bring good luck in the coming year.
Usually, a lion is made up of two dancers. One dancer controls the head. The other controls the tail.
“I think of it as a sport,” says Anthony Huang, aged 16. He is a member of the New York Chinese Freemasons Athletic Club. Anthony performs (表演) as the lion's head. It can weigh 20 pounds. Lion dancing is important to Anthony.“ This tradition really lifts me up,” he says.

In the eyes of Chen Xingzhi, the sweet smell of sachets (香囊) is keeping a tradition alive.
“My great-grandfather was a traditional Chinese doctor. My grandmother always made sachets filled with Chinese herbal powders(中草药粉) for me before the Dragon Boat Festival every year,” said the 74-year-old Shanghai woman. “It's a tradition starting in ancient China.” In the past, people would hang sachets packed with herbs. The herbs are said to be good for people's health.
As a child, Chen learned to make sachets from her grandmother. She knew how to mix different herbal powders. She's also skilled at making sachets of different shapes.
After she retired in 2000, Chen had a lot of free time. She then decided to take on her dream job—making sachets of her own. But she soon found that making traditional sachets in modern times was difficult.
For starters, there were no ready- made herbs for sachets. She had to ask TCM stores to help her. There were also problems with cloth. She had difficulty finding materials with traditional pictures. Besides, some cloth was too light, while others were too heavy. Finally, she decided to cooperate with companies to offer her materials.
And all of her effort paid off. Soon after, TCM stores offered to sell her products at their stores. Chen took the chance to create her own brand, “Xing's Sachets”. Over time, the brand became popular.
Chen has created about 180 kinds of sachets over the past 20 years. Her products have been shown at Expos (博览会). Some are chosen as gifts to important guests on special occasions.

There is a traditional toy called taiping nijiaojiao. It is a clay toy and also a whistle(哨子) in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu. It has a history of over 1,000 years.
Taiping nijiaojiao is made of the mud from the local mountain. It takes more than ten steps to make the clay toy, and the key step is to knead (捏) it with your hands.
